general problems of the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

Vehicle has 19000 miles on it. While driving, the engine died in traffic. I was sent a code from on-star of p129f. I had the SUV towed by aaa to the nearest chevy dealer and had to get a hotel. After researching, I discovered that this is a common problem with a multitude of gm vehicles whereas the control module for the fuel pump has a known failure issue. The module is an fpdcm module. The issue is so frequent that gm has a service bulletin 24-na-139 and yet there is no recall. My SUV has been serviced by chevy dealerships over 4 times since purchasing new and this module should have been replaced before I was put in a potentially dangerous position. A recall needs to be issued immediately.

The vacuum pump of the vehicle has failed four different times now, needing replaced each time, causing the “service brake assist” light to come on and the brakes to be really incredibly hard to press. Each time, it has been at highway speeds, and has made it extremely unsafe due to making it so hard to stop the vehicle. The first time it happened was in July of 2024 at 72,000 miles, again in October of 2024 at 80,000 miles, again in may of 2026 at 112,000 miles, and most recently in September of 2026 at 118,000 miles.

Car sputtered and stalled when starting for work, but then started, I kept it running while I dropped my daughter off at school and went to work. Car sputtered and would not start, leaving me stuck at work. After attempting to start a few times, my check engine light came on. Then received an email saying my car had a critical safety issue from onstar. Had to wait over an hour for a tow to the chevy dealer. Waited another 6 days for it to be looked at. It was a faulty fuel pump modulator, which was recalled for some vins but not mine. If it stalled while I was driving, it would've caused a wreck.

Was driving down road and car died no warning never happened before ,took it to dealership they put on diagnostic machine,the problem was fuel pump driver control module said they have replaced quite a few also said new part has been redesigned so it doesn't happen again. I kept the part. The danger was I was driving down highway and car died.

While accelerating in traffic, the car suddenly lost engine power. (stalled). After several tries to restart, the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership for repair. The fuel pump control module was replaced.

While driving, vehicle lunged forward and engine shut off. Dashboard stated to put in neutral and restart. Pushed automatic start and it clicked for approximately 20 seconds before engine started. Put vehicle in drive and pressed on gas and engine shut off. Put vehicle in park and tried to start again with clicking lasting 20-30 seconds before stopping. Had to have vehicle towed to chevy dealership for diagnostic and repair. The fuel pump control module had to be replaced. This was a recall for 2021-2022 Equinox. The VIN did not pull up for this recall and I am asking for reimbursement.

I was driving in town at normal speed getting on entrance ramp to xxx in [xxx]. As I made my turn the car engine stopped working. I pulled over to the side of the ramp. The car would not start. I called a tow truck and had it taken to my mechanic. He diagnosed it as a failed fuel pump module. He also said that this car had been recalled in 2023 and the fuel pump module replaced. My chevy Equinox failed in the middle of the road and was dead in the middle of traffic, placing myself and others in harm. This is a safety issues and not an emissions issue.

While driving, the car began stalling, and the info window said to shift to "neutral" and restart the vehicle. Attempted this, and the car just stopped in the middle of the street, unable to move it to the side. The info window started saying "no fuel" and I was unable to restart the car to move it off the street. Had to call my local mechanic since there is no chevy dealership in my area. The car was towed to the shop, and diagnosed with the "fuel pump power control module" failure. The part was replaced, and the mechanic was still unable to get the car to register fuel in the gas tank. They took it to the closest dealership, and the dealership also was unable to clear the codes and sync it. At this point, the mechanic put the old part back on, and the car still wouldn't start. The mechanic ordered yet another fuel pump power control module, and this time the car would sync and register the gas in the car. As of today, the car is running. (unable to upload a copy of the bill at this time due to tech issues with your website. I can provide this when your website is working again).

The car stalled and wouldn’t restart while I was in an intersection. No warning on the dashboard until the car stalled. It is currently being serviced at a dealership. -the fuel pump control module fails. The dealer replaced the part and I don't have it for inspection. -car dies while driving and will not restart. Stranded alongside the road with traffic and requires the vehicle to be towed. Quick response required to get pulled off the road before it is immoveable. The first time that it failed I was in a no reception zone and had to walk to get reception to call for help. -yes, when at the dealership the vehicle failed and confirmed that it was the fuel pump control module. This problem has happened on 3 different accounts. A dealership in washington state replaced the control module twice and a different dealership in the state of iowa. The first failure was 2/26/2023 and towed to a dealership on 2/27/2023. The second failure was on 1/10/2024. The most recent failure was on 8/6/2026 and towed on 8/7/2026 to the dealership. -the vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police or insurance. -a warning light service engine came on moments before the car died. It appears that there is a recall n252516900 that my VIN doesn't fall into that I believe covers the same issues I have been seeing.

Vehicle stalled losing power at highway speeds a total 7 times. Engine light finally came on stating that it is a p025a fuel pump modulator issue. This is a know issue with the year and model I have, yet my VIN was not covered under the recall. Car is a 2022 chevy Equinox with 26. 2k miles. Has been confirmed with dealer. Power loss at such speeds put my family in dangerous situations each time. Scottsdale dealers would not make it a priority so I had to get it back to yuma. Dealer is making me responsible for bill due to being out of my bumper to bumper regardless of the low mileage. Urged against goodwill warranty exception and given no loaner vehicle. Had the vehicle towed to local dealership.

While driving my 2022 Chevrolet Equinox lt, at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete engine failure. The engine completely shut off while the vehicle was actively in motion, causing a severe and immediate safety hazard as I lost power assistance in traffic. The vehicle refused to restart and left me completely stranded in a dangerous traffic situation. It had to be towed immediately to a repair facility. The diagnostic performed at firestone complete auto care confirmed a total failure of the fuel pump module assembly, which completely cut off the fuel supply to the engine while driving. I had to pay out of pocket for an emergency replacement of the fuel pump module to make the vehicle operational again. This vehicle is experiencing the exact component failure and identical symptoms described in gm safety recall n222372310 (NHTSA campaign number: 23v013000) for inadequate fuel pump flow. However, general motors is currently refusing to cover or reimburse this repair, claiming that my specific VIN is not included in their narrow recall database. Since this identical engineering defect causes sudden vehicle immobilization while in motion and creates a severe risk of highway collisions, I am filing this safety complaint to request that the NHTSA investigate and compel general motors to expand the scope of recall n222372310 to include all affected 2022 Equinox vehicles sharing this defective fuel pump design. I have the official diagnostic invoice and proof of payment available for verification.

I brought my daughter home from work car was working fine we went to leave about an hour later the car would turn over for a second then die my husband checked it and the p129f diagnostic trouble code is what popped up that is specific to gm motors so that's what's wrong there were no warning signs and safety is necessarily at risk but I need a car to provide for my family.

Traveling far from home, car suddenly made a rattling noise and engine shut down. Pulled over for a tow. After 2 weeks in a shop, it was determined the fuel pump was defective causing the camshaft to break. Our VIN is not under the recall but the damage was massive. Gm refused to admit to pump failure / camshaft defect. Took parts to be inspected also to the dealership and they confirmed. There were no warnings. We were on a major highway traveling at 70 mph when this happened, yes this was a dangerous situation to be in. Gm refused to listen to my case that I filed as I stated we have the "right to repair" and took it to the nearest shop. They closed my case with no opportunity to move forward in the customer service world. We had to pay 4900. 00 for repair, 214. 00 to tow, 1700. 00 for a rental car and all they offered were 1000 gm point that converted to 10. 00.

Car started fine, pulled it out of the garage, shut it off, went out to start it up two hours later, it started after cranking a bit but stalled, started for a quick second again but stalled again right away, just kept cranking as I tried it, the check engine light on, I put a code reader on and code told me it was the code for fuel pump module, my vehicle is a 2022 Equinox and only has a little over 9300 miles on it. Definitely not something that should’ve happened with that low of miles but yet somehow my VIN was not included in a 2023 recall, I was told it wasn’t anyways!.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 75 mph my 2022 Chevrolet Equinox lost power, the engine stalled, and I was forced to pull over into a construction zone. The engine would not restart and the check engine indicator was on. Onstar messaged me via email that a fault p129f was detected. I had the vehicle towed to my home where I performed some additional diagnostics and determined that while similar to product safety recall n222372310 inadequate fuel pump flow, the issue was not with the fuel pump but with the fuel pump controller module mounted under the vehicle. I replace the module with an official gm replacement module part number 13554821 which resolved the issue with the fuel system in my vehicle. I still have the faulty fuel pump controller module in my possession (see attached picture).

The fuel pump module was a recall under n222372310 - safety recall in 2023. This recall was complete by a dealership. The recall fuel pump module assembly it was replace July 2023 with part number fuel pump module 84782007. On April 13, 2026 (33 months later) the car would not start, if it did start it was stall and die. When it also run rough if it would start, then die again. I had to have the car towed to the dealership. The dealership said the fuel pump module was out again! the exact same problem the first recall was suppose to correct did not solve the problem. At this time there is not a new recall on this matter. The part that replaced the original fuel pump module did not solve the problem. The replacement part appears faulty as well. Had my car ben in traffic or on the highway it is possible I would have lost all power to the car which could have resulted in crash.

The vehicle's fuel pump failed. Like many 2022 chevy Equinoxes, ours has a fuel pump that failed while on a road trip 10 hours from home. However, ours was also not part of the recall batch for failing fuel pumps. There were no warning lights or lamps or other signs, and at 27,000 miles, we would never expect for our fuel pump to fail. It seems quite clear that this is part of the overall failure of 2022 chevy Equinox fuel pumps, and this batch should be included in the recall.

While driving vehicle during afternoon traffic, the vehicle started to sputter then die in the middle of the road, I tried restarting the vehicle, it would crank but would not start. I pushed the vehicle off the road and called a wrecker. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership for repair. After two days, they informed me that the fuel pump control module failed and would have to be replaced for approximately $600 I had no choice but to ok the charges, I spoke to the service manager because this part should be covered under the vehicle emissions warranty, but they said no, I did some further checking and it appears this part was a recall item! I contacted gm customer support and even after acknowledging the issue but stated it wasnt for our vehicle even though it was the same part and year.

While operating our vehicle on traveling at approx. 45 mph during mid-day traffic, the engine on our vehicle died and would not restart. We had no power steering and had to wrestle the vehicle off the road the check engine light was on and we tried repeatedly to restart the engine without any luck. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership for diagnosis and repair, it was determined that a fuel pump power control module had failed and that it would cost $599. To repair. We approved the repairs and then approached gm for reimbursement after discovering that this same part was recalled by gm ref # n252516900 which covered the make, model and year of our vehicle. We contacted gm customer relations and after speaking with them multiple times they approved a partial adjustment on the bill for approximately $150. I explained that according to their campaign notice and ongoing issues with this component we wanted a full refund and would not accept a partial payment of 1/3 our cost. Gm refuses to stand behind their product even though our vehicle only has 27,500 miles. I spoke with the service manager at the dealership, and he suggested I contact gm customer service and they should resolve the problem since this was an ongoing issue.

Engine stalled possibly due to a faulty fuel pump. I was able to drive the vehicle without issue until I pulled up to my house, when the engine stalled. No warning signs prior to the incident. Proceeded to put the vehicle in park and start the engine again. The engine had trouble starting again, sputtering even when the gas pedal was pressed (no response to the gas pedal). No sound comes from the fuel pump when trying to start. Battery in good condition. Lucky vehicle did not stall while driving down the road at 60 mph. Vehicle will have to be towed to a mechanic.

Vehicle unexpectedly stalled 10/5/2024 while driving at 45 mph on a highway. It would not restart. We were able to get to the side of the road and call for a tow truck. It was towed to the dealer where we purchased. It sat in the parking lot for a few days and they were able to restart it. The dealer could not find anything wrong. On 12/19/2025 the vehicle again unexpectedly stalled doing 50 mph on a three lane highway. It would not start. With a lot of beeping and cutting off upset drivers we were able to get the car off the road. We again had it towed to the dealer where we bought it new. They found there was a faulty fuel pump driver module. They replaced the module and we picked up and paid $386. 62. It seems to be running fine now, but found this issue is a recall for many Equinoxes with the same car years but my VIN is not listed in the recall. I also see the replacement modules are being recalled. This is a dangerous situation for myself, my family, passengers and others on the road. This vehicle dies with no warning. No lights go on. It just plain stops running. No one should have to pay for this repair no matter the VIN. Note this Equinox has less than 60,000 miles on it.

Faulty fuel pump caused my vehicle to shut down while driving.

Car would not turn over only grinning noise. Stranded in parking lot. Had to have car towed to dealer. They replaced the fuel pump. The car would not start again 2 days later. I was stranded again. I kept trying and it finally started. It stopped intraffic just died on the way home. Before help came I got it started and made it home. I had it towed to the dealer again. This time they said it is the fuel pump modular. The fuel pump cost me $1300. 00 and norw the charge will be $400. 00. Some 2022 Equinox were recalled but mine was not included. It should have been reca. Led. My Equinox onlyhas 13,000 miles this was a very dangerous situation. Diane tesson.

My vehicle has trouble starting and once it starts it dies within a minute or less. Check engine light is on. Code was showing the fuel pump module. Had it towed to the dealership to confirm exactly what the issue is.

Driving down the interstate my 2022 Chevrolet Equinox lt lost all propulsion and shut off. I was able to get pulled over to the side of the road had to have my vehicle towed. Vehicle was repaired after a week at the dealership the problem was the fuel pump module again. This is the 2nd time the fuel pump modulehas went out in 2 years.

I was driving on the highway at a fast speed 75+ miles per hour. I was in the left lane. My car turned off and there was no acceleration. It was not getting fuel. I was able to make it to the right lane and merge off the highway before it stopped moving by momentum alone. Cars had to slow down and go around me almost causing an accident. It is not okay to let people drive around in an unsafe manner when, now I found that this is a common problem. Having an accident on I-95 is no joke. It could have cost me my life.

We were in our pharmacy drive thru pick up lane when our car suddenly died, and would not restart. No engine light came on prior. We waited three hours for our tow truck in 99 degree weather to take it to the nearest dealership. Had the fuel pump power control module and also the fuel tank fuel pump module replaced. Now back at dealership, as the fuel gauge is being repaired. Our car evidently didn't show up as needing the fuel pump module recalled. $2000 later, I wonder why not?.

The fuel pump is not consistently providing fuel to the engine and causing the engine to stall while driving. The fuel pump is not properly functioning.

While driving on the highway, the vehicle lost power with no warning. Was able to get it to the side of the road and had it towed to dealership. The found the fuel pump module was at fault. Had it replaced and 2 weeks later the check engine light came on and same diagnostic code came up for the fuel pump module. (had just been replaced). Took to dealership again and they replaced the module again stating it could be a faulty part. Now again 3 weeks later the check engine light is on again. Same diagnostic code came up again stating it is the fuel pump module. Car is currently at the dealership for the third time in 6 weeks for the same issue. Thankfully there has been no personal injury involved but the car stopping while driving on a highway is very dangerous and scary. This is definitely a crash risk for the driver /passengers and others on the roadway.

On August 16, 2025, my 2022 chevy Equinox experience an engine stall while I was driving with no warning, no prior check engine light. This was very scary for my own safety but more importantly my child’s safety who was in the back seat. Had I not been able to move my car to the side of the road or had we been on one of atlanta’s major interstates this could have been a fatal accident for the both of us. I immediately took my car to the dealership where I purchased this car brand new off the truck and have had it serviced ever since. Not only did I take it, I took it there with a recall notice (n222372310) for 21-22 chevy Equinox experience engine stalls due to a faulty fuel pump module. The dealership informed me that this recall “did not apply” to my VIN. And I had to place it under my warranty and pay my $200 deductible for them to diagnose that in fact my fuel pump module was bad and needed to be replaced, nothing else.

On two separate instances the vehicle stalled and shut off. Once on a highway at 65mph. Second failure was on a private road at 15mph. Both instances were in a 1 week period.

We where driving to do some errands I noticed the engine light came on. Then the engine cut off. Took it to a garrage near by they did a scan said it is my fuel pump. I was told to check to see if there was a recall on this. I checked there is a recall on this problem. I called the number it said to call. Gave them my VIN. Number said my VIN number was not on the list. 2022 chevy Equinox lt. Why isn't it on the list it has the problem described on recall. Michael bethea dillon SC.

On July 23, 2025 my Equinox quit running as I was pulling out into an intersection. After several attempts to restart with no success I called my roadside assistance provider and had the Equinox towed to a repair facility. After diagnostics on July 24, 2025 it was determined that the fuel pump control module had failed. The module was replaced and reprogrammed. After the repair was completed it was brought to my attention that there was a recall issued on "some" 2022 Equinox 's but not all 2022 Equinox 's. My VIN was not included in the recall but suffered the same failure as the recalled units. No warning lights or symptoms prior to the failure. This continues to be a safety issue because without warning the vehicles just stop running. The Equinox had 45,939 miles on the odometer at the time of the failure. This in a know safety issue and gm should have included all 2022 Equinox 's or at least a broader range of vins in the initial recall.
