My heater stopped working it blows out cold air. As I have researched this problem it seems to common with all 2006 Equinox.
Very cold morning. Windows fogged up. Turned on defrost heard something pop and felt cold air come into the car. Drove to work by wiping the window with napkins. Called mechanic to find out what could be done was told this is common problem with this car. Called dealer to ask if their was a recall and check price against mechanics. Dealers price was the same. Interesting part was dealer denied any such problem with this car. Checked the internet and found hundreds with the same complaint. Received a notice that gm would pay for the repair but the dealer says I do not qualify. This is no cheap repair. Looking for a class action or good lawyer. Found your site to vent and help others.
While waiting on red light with foot on the brake the car started stalling, loosing rpm and engine stopped. I started it again and released the brake and pushed the gas slowly to get thru the intersection and the car began loosing rpm again and almost stalled again put me and my baby in very dangerous situation in the middle of the intersection. There is obviously some serious problems with the chevy Equinox engine and gm has to take this matter seriously before somebody gets killed on the road or cause chain accident because engine stalls.
Heater blows cold air. Heater just stopped blowing hot air. After diagnosis the dealer found the temp (air blend )door broke and in the default cold position. Had to replace the temp door and the actuator. Parts $163 labor $930. 60 plus misc. Total cost $1184. 12.
The heater blend door and /or actuator have failed. There is no heat or defroster. It is now winter and because of the holidays, the dealer cannot get repaired in the next week or more. Part cost = $55. Estimated labor cost $1500. This repair is over 10% value of the car and I am told requires removing the entire dash. This is a safety hazard and the car is now unusable for a couple of weeks.
After a month of purchasing my Equinox the heat quit working. After doing research on the internet I have noticed that this is a common problem with this year and make vehicle. I took my Equinox to my local gm dealer and they confirmed that the problem I was having was with the air temperature door blend breaking due to improper installation of the actuator that opens and closes the door. The actuator will put too much pressure on the door causing it to break over time. This is a safety issue in cold weather states because you don't have heat to defrost your window properly. If this door breaks on a road trip you are likely unable to see until you get the problem fixed. I believe that gm is unwilling to recall this part due to the fact that it is so labor intensive to repair this problem. The cost should not be the issue as people's safety should be their main concern! I am asking the NHTSA to look into this matter and make gm fix this problem!.
I am having the same problem as all the other owners of a 2006 Equinox. No heat!!! I have had this looked into and have wasted over $900 on trying to fix the problem. This is ridiculous that they don't do anything about this!! shame on them!!! I have to transport my young daughter in a freezing cold car every day because I can't afford the $1200 that I find out needs to be put into this!! I have been a loyal chevy owner since I bought my first car years ago. . . But now I will think twice before buying one or even suggesting one to a anyone.
Vehicle has a broken "heater blender door" with a repair cost of approximately $1000 (the majority of the cost is for labor; the part is reasonably "cheap"). Turning on the heat, the vehicle would only produce cold air. Considering it is winter, this presents a considerable safety hazard as there is no defrost function for the front windshield. Windshield easily fogs up and it is impossible to defog it.
Blend door issue just like everyone else when is something going to be done about this.
My heater quit working in my 2006 Equinox. Apparently it is a common problem with the air temperature blend door. Since the potential danger is there during the winter gm should put out a recall on this part!.
All problems arose when the brake from the driver's side would shake when braking. We had the shoes and tha pads changed and the problem seemed to be solved for about a year. Then the problem began again but this time the brakes would squeak when braking and then they began to tighten and the brake would lock itself and began to smoke because of the friction the pad and the brake disc were creating since the brake would remain locked. This was only on the drivers side. When this occurred the friction made the whole wheel rim get hot and began producing a burning smell from the brake pad. The caliber, shoes, pad and disc had to be replaced for both front brakes. The brakes continue to squeak when breaking. Now, the motor heats up to the red zone, the check engine light comes on even if their is anti-freeze in the engine. When accelerating the motor cools down, but if the speed is less than 35mph the motor heats up more. Based on other comments from drivers with the same make, model and year they noticed that the problem has come up to be the head gaskets. This problem has created many problems with the engine and is becoming a safety hazard when their is still a posibility that the breaks will lock up again and possibly spark fire if the problem is not fixed. We have not used our vehicle because of these issues we fear that not fixing the costly problem may damage other parts of the vehicle. We know we are not alone and that other drivers have the same problem with the chevy Equinox 2005.
We were driving on highway at approximately 70 mph when there was a vey load boom and we unexpectedly realized that the sunroof glass had shattered, some of which dropped down inside the SUV. The sunroof shade was 7/8 way closed which prevented most of the glass from riding down on us. We were on the open road , no overpass, no road debries flying up, no evidence of anything striking the closed sunroof. Climate condition , temp was around 50 degrees. Partly sunny. We do feel that if the shade on the sunroof had not been almost closed, we would have been involved in a crash if this sunroof glass had dropped down on us. Traffic at this time was fairly heavy! dealer claims there have been no other incidents of this type. Inspection of the sunroof glass revealed that the center of the glass had shattered and cracked glass was still in the sunroof frame. The sunroof was closed at time of this incident.
When I start my Equinox it sometimes idles down and then back up to where it should be. It also has died after I have started it. But the most concerning is having to push on the gas pedal to keep it from dieing, as if it is not getting fuel. Then it will run just fine.
Hello, I noticed a horrible mildew smell about a couple of weeks ago when I had changed the cabin air filter. Never had an issue until then, I took out the cabin filter thinking that I had not properly sealed the housing only to find that it was secured properly an it smells fine. This is very frustrating since I am very knowledgable about cars. I have read tons of posts about water leaking into the spare tire well and I looked there but found no water and the smell is not coming from that location. Does anyone have any other recommendations or other know how to what I can do to rid the car. I just sprayed fabreeze on the carpet.
No heat coming in the SUV to defrost windows or to warm up the inside. Total repair will be $800. 00 for a $30. 00 part. Plastic plate that controls the air and heat is defective. Appartently the part after sometime get weak from heat and cold conditions. Only way to fix is to tear complete dash board out to reach blower assembly, replace vent door and reassemble the entire dash board.
I put the car in drive and the engine sounded like an airplane taking off. I pulled out on the street, accelerated and noticed the needle go up to 4 rpm's at approximately 10 miles an hour. I took my foot off the accelerator and the car jolted and felt like I had been hit from behind. I accelerated again and the same thing happened, again feeling like I was hit from behind. The car is presently at my dealership but they cannot duplicate the problem. Today they are going to drive it for a good distance on the expressway. I had read one complaint on the Equinox forum where someone was driving on the interstate with cruise control on and something very similar happened to them with the rpm sticking at 4 rpm's. I told my dealership about this and ask if maybe they are related problems.
It just got cold in my region and I noticed my heater was not working. It just blows cold air out. I did some research and saw that there were lots of complaints about a heat blend door breaking in this model. The part costs approximately 30 dollars to buy but the associated labor is over $1200 dollars. Chevrolet hasn't recalled this even though it's kind of dangerous to not have a defroster in icy weather.
I am not sure how many complaints you've had regarding this 2006 Equinox lt blowing cold air. GMC is not doing to resolve this problem and I think this is safety hazard issue due to it will not defrost without heat and defog.
The heater door has broken and the heater/defroster no longer work. The issue causes the windshield to frost over while driving. Many complaints on this issue have been posted on the internet.
Vehicle no longer blows hot air when heat is on therefore the defroster will not blow hot air as well. This is a safety hazard! if windows are fogged or iced during inclement weather you can not see and could cause an accident resulting in fatalities. I found over 500 complaints about the same problem on the internet. Problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is defective on the 2006 chevy Equinox.
Car jerked when slowing down. While waiting at a stop light, the car shut off. Upon starting vehicle, there was a rattle. Car was taken to the dealership where purchased and recall #11195 was done, to include an oil change.
In September 2011, six weeks after purchasing my 2011 chevy Equinox, I was rear-ended by a heavy-duty pickup truck. I was so rattled by the collision that I forgot that I had onstar. The other driver used his cell phone to call the police. I received minor injuries during the accident. A few days later I told my husband that I thought it was strange that onstar did not contact me right after the collision. He called onstar and told them what happened. The representative told my husband that the rear sensors should have signaled a collision, but, because the sensors did not activate, onstar would report the problem to gm. The rep also told my husband that this is an ongoing problem and gm management is aware of the problem. The rep offered to extend our onstar trial period for another 6 months. If gm is aware of the rear sensor malfunction, why aren't they correcting the problem? instead they are placating customers with an extension of onstar service. What happens if a more serious rear-end crash occurs, the driver is unconscious, and can't call for help? I would like this problem of the malfunctioning rear sensors to be investigated.
My Equinox is full of water where the spare tire is and it the water has leaked all into the rugs. I did not know how this was happening until the past rain storm. When we looked at the spare tire compartment it was full of water. My car smells like mildew and my daughter has had a horrible cough for the past few weeks. I fear she has mold in her lungs. When I go online there are multiple complaints on this same issue. It seems there is a faulty seal and it leaks all through the car. It took years to get the recall for the electrical issues in my care that broke down at least 5 times from faulty spark plugs. Now chevy wants me to $370 for them just to look at the car. Please look into as I cannot afford the cost of this and my car makes squishing noises and smells so horribly that I probably cant even sell it.
My air blend door broke. This is the second time. Which makes it hard to drive because the windows fog up.
Ignition key will not come out, without several try's . Ongoing thru 7/3/2012.
I recieved my vehicle back on 8. 2. 11 it had been in the repair shop since 5. 14. 11. The repair man replaced and reprogrammed the transmission modulator. He noted that it did "act up" for him, however it had not acted up since his last attempt at fixing it. It was raining when I picked up my car. In the first 10 miles I noticed the steering pulled to the left a couple of times. After I hit dry road this did not occur. After about 30-60 miles of driving the vehcile since getting it back, the speedometer started failing and the vehicle while going 55mph starts to feel like it is going to cease to operate and stutters. It is also noted that it feels like it is not going to automatically shift to the appropriate gear. The vehicle is going to chevorlet dealership on Friday 8. 5. 11.
2005 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to parts changes the consumer stated the dealer is trying to charge a large amount of money to repair a small pipe. The consumer was informed she would have to purchase the entire part which she didn't need.
Vehicle was parked under a carport in full shade. I opened the driver's side door, got in, shut the door as I always do, and the rear glass exploded outward. There was no chip or crack in the glass. We took many pictures of the glass where it is obvious that the glass burst outward, glass spewed all down my driveway. The glass broke all around the edges of the frame and a large hole in the middle. Prior to this, we took the vehicle to the dealership to fix a rattle in the liftgate. I know that the liftgate had to be taken apart and reassembled for this fix. The dealership says the glass fell inward (and after being hauled halfway across town on a wrecker, it sure looks like it did) and that in any case, glass is not covered under the warranty. I called gm and the rep said it should be covered. This is a brand new vehicle that I have taken very good care of. I am waiting to hear back from the district rep or the dealer. I am concerned about the safety of exploding glass, what if kids had been in the car? what if the front windshield does this while I am in the car? I hope that gm and the dealership will correct this defect.
While leaving a parking lot during a rain storm on the night of June 18th, 2011, I turned on the heater and heard a clicking sound from the dash area, and the heater wouldn't blow hot air. There was/is still cool air blowing from the vent(s). Because of this, the defroster on the vehicle would not/doesn't work either, it too only blows cold air. I had to crack the windows open in order for the windows not to fog up during my drive home. Believing this was just a simple matter of replacing a heater core or thermostat, and because I wouldn't need the heater during the summer months I didn't start looking into the matter until a few weeks ago. In having the problem checked, I seems that it is a faulty heater blend door/actuator. The cost to fix it is very expensive, due to the labor involved. Chevrolet seems to be aware of the problem, but are doing nothing about the potential safety issue. I feel that not being able to defrost the windshield is a serious safety problem, that has the potential to cause a serious accident. I have read that chevy recalled a 2010 Equinox because of a defect that caused an inoperable defrost system, but there is no recall for the 2006 model. (failure mileage is approximate).
I had a problem with the heat not working in my car. Took the car to a mechanic and after they charged me $50. 00 to look at it, discovered it was the blend air door that was broken. Mechanic also said it was odd that the part was in stock. This is not a common problem to have. $40. 00 part for a $900. 00-$1200. 00 fix. Had to get it repaired as we need the heat in WI. Also need to be able to see when I drive. Something has to be done about this. I am nervous to even use my heat as I don't want to have this happen again. From what I have read online, this is happening often. I don't have that kind of money to keep fixing this.
The heater started blowing cold air. I know for certain that my car is one of many. There was less than 60k miles on the car at the time. Unacceptable.
Transmission does not shift properly. It will either hang up in the last gear or shift hard with a clunk into the next gear. Have returned the vehicle to the dealer twice and have been told this is normal for a 6 speed transmission. My 2007 Equinox also had a 6 speed transmission and never shifted like this 2011 does. This is the 6th Chevrolet I've bought since 2000. Think they would try to determine what the problem is before I opt for another auto maker.
I purchased a 2011 chevy Equinox on March 8, 2011. Since purchasing I've had multiple issues with the vehicle that have not been resolved. Falls in the lemon law category at this point. May 26, 2011 vehicle stalling and hesitation when accelerating tech removed and replaced the exhaust and intake camshaft actuators and the camshaft solenoids (2 actuators and 2 valves) I was informed that this would correct both problems September 14, 2011 vehicle stalling, hesitation when accelerating and recall no. 11195. Tech claimed he was unable to duplicate the stalling/hesitation. Tech performed campaign no. 11195. I was informed that the recall was to repair the stalling/hesitation and would correct both problems September 26, 2011 -September 28, 2011 third visit for same issues! vehicle still stalling, hesitating during acceleration and rattle at startup day 1: informed that the vehicle would need to be kept overnight (parts ordered). Day 2: tech removed and replaced the camshaft actuators again and the problem was still occurring after replacing actuators the service engine soon light was lit. I was called and informed that the dealer would need to keep my vehicle one more day to replace the timing chain (parts ordered) day 3 in service: camshaft timing chain replaced total work over 3 days: 2 valves, 2 actuators, 1 seal, 1 gasket and 1 chain installed. I was informed that these fixes would resolve stalling and engine hesitation issues I am having the following problems with my vehicle at this time: vehicle stalling hesitation when accelerating I have filed paperwork for lemon law but also wanted to file a complaint so that people are aware of the problems that chevy is having with theequinox. From the complaints, blogs, etc that I've seen online this seems as if this is a widespread issue and other consumers are dealing with the same issues.
Speedometer failed to give an accurate reading. Radio faded in and out. After around a minute of this occurring the vehicle lost power and slowed down and did not regain power even with the gas pedal pressed. The vehicle was safely brought to the side of the road, turned off and attempted to drive the vehicle again. After about 1 mile or less the vehicle again did the same thing and was towed to a mechanic.
We purchased this vehicle brand new against my better judgment because I have not had much luck with american cars but my wife liked it. After several months she had to take it back to the dealer for almost every complaint filed listed on the NHTSA website. If I had the power I would classify the chevy Equinox as lemon and recall the entire vehicle but I don't. Gm need to step to the plate and address all the issues with this vehicle. Recall the Equinox year 2005-2006 now!!!!.
The heater and defrost only blow clod air making driving a hazard. The air temperature blend door no longer works. This malfunction defect has already costs me more money than I can afford and now I learn that this is a common problem with this year and make. It should be recalled and fixed by chevy.
I have had several issues with my vehicle. The service stabilitrak light will come on and it will also say service tracrion control. Within seconds the check engine will come and the the car says engine power reduced. I have to pull over let the car sit for a few minutes and then the stabiltrak will reset itself butthe check engine light still stays on for awhile. I was driving on the freeway and this happened and it is a safety issue. I have taken it to a gm dealer and they cant seem to find the problem. They recommended trying to fix something and it could possibly work but no gaurantees because they couldnt find any errors at the time. Now the vehicle is out of warranty and they wont help with the issue. It is documented and has been in the shop for this while under warranty. I feel they need to help in this matter.
Rear tire well filled with water that was stinky and moldy. All leaked into the cab of the Equinox, thus making the carpet stinky and moldy too. There is obviously a leak somewhere in the hatch making the tire well fill up all the time. A CO-worker of mine has the same car, make, model and year and has the same problem.
Vehicle no longer blows hot air when heat is on and defroster not longer blows hot air. Found many complaints about same problem on the internet. Problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is broken. No heat means windows fog up and and can not see to drive, which is a safety hazard in rainy or snowy cold weather. According to other customer complaints the cost to repair is around $1200 for $50-$80 metal part.
Owned for 6 days and the battery was dead hessitation, stahling, hard shift, rpm's bounce all over and it auto shifts all over the place, terrible gas mileage, smells like it runs rich when started, down shifts going thru the middle of town at 20 mph and throws me forward, some shifting hessitates like it sticks in neutral temporarily, has been in the dealership constantly. Gm has not done anything, I am always told that it is a part or that it is updates that come from gm. Purchased March 25, 2011 and not one wk without problems. Dealer does not provide paperwork for most visits.
Just bought the car a month ago and two days after I bought it the air temperature blend door broke and it cost me $1200. 00 to fix and now again the door has broken and I can't afford to fix it a second time. There is no heat and this happend all of a sudden. The windows immediatley fogged up and I couldn't see. There was air blowing but it was cold air. There is no heat at all.
Heat stopped working in 06 Equinox. Told it was the air blend door. $40 dollar part but $1000 to replace. This is a very common problem and is a design flaw by gm. They will not back it. This leaves the car with no way to defrost/defog the windshield. This is a major safty concern.
Complainant owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox where the heat and defroster suddenly stopped working on March 1, 2011. Took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the air temp actuator over actuated and broke the air temp door. The air temp door and actuator are now faulty and need to be replaced. Estimate of $1200 of which most of the cost is labor due to need to disassemble all of the dashboard to replace part. This is a known defect of the vehicle make, model and year and manufacturer has yet to issue a recall. Vehicle was not repaired.
Yesterday I got in my vehicle, turned on the heat and defrosters. I only got very cold air, the car never warmed up, the windows never defrosted, they only became foggy inside. G. M. Says they have no records of this problem. The internet records over 500 incidents of the same thing happening to 2006 Chevrolet Equinox's. This car should be recalled and repaired, g. M. Knows the part (plastic) fails because on later models they began using a metal part.
On February 12, 2011, I began noticing the start up problems with the 2006 chevy Equinox. It intermittently has excessive cranking time to start and as of lately (Jan. 19, 2012) it only has gotten worse. I took it to the shop to get it serviced the same day and they told me it was the mass airflow sensor. I paid for that but the problem did not go away. Since then, I have had the radio replaced and the gas has had many fuel delivery issues. I believe it is the powertrain control module which was recalled in the 2005 chevy Equinox. It needs to also be recalled for the 2006 so that I can stop wasting my time and money on something that wasn?t built right. Thank you.
This incident happened in early spring 2011, temperatures in oklahoma are still cold in March, the heater stopped putting out hot air. The defroster would not defrost. My wife drives this car and had told me that the heater is not working. I guess I procrastinated about it, as temperatures became warmer, the heater was not needed. During this spring-summer, I happened to go to a auto repair shop that my cousin owns, there sits a chevy Equinox, like the one we own. I asked the tech, what was wrong with it, he stated that the heater stopped putting out hot air through the heater ducts. I was shocked to see the entire instrument panel was disassembled. There was a bad feeling coming upon me. He shared his frustrations about this job, and the design/part that was used for this system, that caused this problem. This was his 2nd repair of this problem. Well, needless to say I have the same problem. The heater blend door was broke. I am lodging this complaint due to such an important function of not only heating the car interior compartment, but also most importantly the defrosting system. I strongly feel this is a design flaw from the manufacturer. This defect will cost over $1200. 00 to fix at the dealer. There need to be a recall for this defect immediately. Thank you.
Not sure of the exact date or mileage vehicle messed up first time. We bought it on January 19, 2011, messed up within first few days of having it. It's happened twice, when vehicle is stopped, but in drive (ex. Red light), then pressing the gas pedal it will either not go at all, or barely go and then not go any further. Have to put the car in park, shut off, then turn car back on to make it work right. Taken it to the dealership multiple times, they say they can't find anything wrong or duplicate the problem. No check engine light comes on, or any lights at all. Contacted gm also, they are not much help either, say we have to duplicate the problem before taking any further steps. Don't feel safe in the car, I have two small children. They have been with me both times it has messed up. The first time we were stranded between two lanes of on coming traffic.
My temperature door on the heater has broken off at the acuator due to defective material and my heater doesn't work causing danger when cold with no defrost or heat the part is plastic but requires 9 hours labor to replace and 3 days in the shop because it is in such a difficult location to get to requiring removal of the entire dash and hvac unit.
Cpsc# i1130330a. 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. Vecicle has no heat, this is do to a 35. Oo plastic part that should switch from heat to cool which is stuck and malfunctioning inside the dashboard.
Blown head gasket on a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox.
The passenger side airbag light began displaying intermittently turning the passenger airbag on and off while displaying a service airbag message on the instrument panel. After several months the passenger side airbag now remains off at all times still displaying the service airbag message. This is with a 200 pound man sitting in the passenger seat. Turning off and restarting the engine no longer clears the problem. My understanding is that the 2007 Equinox was recalled for the same reason so why aren't the 2008 models not being included in the recall? also, after someone mentioned that their Equinox had the same problem I started asking other owners. Apparently it is fairly common and I guess a source of income for gm. One woman told me the chevy tech told her that air bag problems were common after 45,000 miles and was considered a routine repair. Dealer wants $500 plus to repair. As long as dealers are telling people this is a routine repair no one is going to report it as a problem. Also, the front right tire pressure indicator constantly reads 15 pounds when two separate manual air guages show 37 psi. In addition, the electronic stability control message comes on periodically even when parked. Driving is difficult until it clears which is also after a restart.
I was reading through other complaints and I had the same issue as everyone else a year ago. My 2006 Equinox was blowing out cold air. I took it in to get fixed (while still under warenty) and had to pay about $900. Well, about $750 for labor. They said since it's regular wear & tear I had to pay for it. I've never even heard of it before. The had to take off my entire dash board! it was just a piece of plastic that broke off that door behind all the controls. I actually got on here because recently my safety/auto theft light keeps coming on while I'm driving! the other day my car wouldn't even start and I don't know if this has to do with it or not! has anyone else been having these problems? is it a big deal? help?.
It is now the end of October in pennsylvania. It is very cold at 32 degrees. I turned my heat on in my Equinox and it is blowing cold air. I did some research online, and found out many other owners of the 2006 Equinox are having the same problem. It is due to the plastic piece braking on the heater blend door. It will cost $1,200 to fix. I called gm to see if their was a recall on theis part. I was told by gm that it has not been recalled because it "is not a safety issue". Not a safety issue? I am unable to defrost my windows so I may see the road, putting my life, my children's lives and the lives of everyone on the road in danger. I would say this is a big problem!.
I own a 2006 chev Equinox. Imy problem began when I had approximately 55,000 miles on my car. This past October (2010), I noticed my heater was not working. No warm or hot air comes out of any vent or defroster at any fan speed. My car has no heat. It is impossible to defrost windows to DE-ice or remove/prevent fogged windows when driving. Also, I have two small children (ages 2 and 4 months) and I must have heat in the care for their care and safety. After doing research and reading 100's of complaints online about others with this same problem, I took my car to a mechanic at an authorized dealer, where they told me that the temperature door and temperature acutator were defected and would need to be replaced. . The estimated repaire cost is approximately $1500. The inability to defrost and defog the windows of this 2006 Equinox is a safety hazard for myself and other drivers, causing lack of visibilty before and during vehicle operation. I recommend you look at the follwoing links to forums where numerous Equinox owners have complained about this same problem with their vehicles. . Read more...
The heat failed to activate on my 06' Equinox when driving on the highway. The windshield could not defog and I could not see the road with the entire windshield obscured! extremely hazardous!.
2006 chevy Equinox. I've had to replace the wheel bearings twice in two years. Bot repairs were over $900. Now the cair is blowing cold air. A simple google search will see that this is a continous problem with this vehicle.
I have a 2006 chevy Equinox. The truck as 51k miles. The car heater began not working last week. This morning, in kentucky it was 45 degrees, I could not get the windshield cleared for anything. I had to pull of the side of the road and physically wipe the windshield because I have no heat on a 3 year old car. I have seen so many others on the internet with the same complaint, spending 1,000 or more for the repairs. Please recall!!!!!.
The heater core was replaced on my 2006 chevy Equinox in April of 2009 at 29,000 miles. It now needs replaced again in October 2012 at 57,500 miles. The first time it was under warranty and was no cost to me. But now it needs replaced, again at $1100+ (dealer estimate). After a weeklong battle with gm, they offered me a 50% cost share. This should not be happening at 29,000 and again at 57,500!! it has got to be some sort of design flaw. It is obviously a known defect (due to all of the complaints), but they refuse to recall!!.
The carrier bearing is faulty on 2005 Equinoxes. Our mechanic told us this is a huge problem because it could cause the car to flip over. The major issue is that to repair the carrier bearing, they have to remove and replace the drive shaft. This has to be sent to Chevrolet, and since it can only be done by them, they have a strong arm on the price. ($1200) it is evident that this is a manufacturing defect because when I began to google 'drive shaft chevy', it gave me 2005 Equinox as a suggestion. The year was specific in the problem.
My blend door also broke from deep inside the dash causing the heat setting to blow only cold air and I am unable to defog windshield. Since purchase the vehicle has had difficulty starting. Sometimes it starts up on the first try and other times I have to pump the gas in order to get vehicle to start. Both of these problems are consistent with other vehicle owner complaints.
I've had just exact same problem as the following other complaint explains. . . Ni bought a 2007 chevy Equinox new. A couple of days after taking it home a strange problem started occurring, an electrical problem between the left speakers and the directionals. A loud rapid noise would suddenly come through the left speakers as I was driving and would continue until I used the turn signal (either direction). The dealership has never been able to locate the problem and I have the same problem still.
2006 chevy Equinox has problems starting. Have to to push gas pedal to even get it to start at times. This has been an issue since we bought the car in Dec of 2007 with 32,000 miles on it. Second day after we had car the check engine light came on so we brought it in. After that is when the starting issues started have brought it to the dealer 3 diffrent times and the issue will not duplicate itself for them so there is not an issue to them.
Rattling sound under the hood while driving down the road or just idling. I immediately took it to the dealership. Diagnose was missing bolts from the fly wheel. Bolts had been slowly coming off of the flywheel and there was only one bolt left. Definitely appears to be a manufacturing defect. This could have been a very, very serious situation had I been driving down the road at a higher speed. Dealership is replacing bolts.
My 2006 chevy Equinox has trouble starting. The problem used to be intermittent, but has become more regular over the years. I have taken it to three different dealers to diagnose and they say there is no problem or they were unable to duplicate the issue. When the problem occurs it will only start if you hold the gas pedal to the floor. Otherwise, it will just crank and then turn off. I have seen many complaints about this online and found that the 2005 Equinox seemingly has the same problem and was issued a recall. I work hard to pay the bills and need someone to acknowledge the problem that these vehicles sre having.
My car continues to overheat. I had the radiator flushed and new fluids put in a new thermostat put in but it continued to over heat. When I took it in to have it look at (van dorn auto), I was told that the cooling fans are not working. The mechanical shop (van dorn auto) called the dealer and was told by the chevy dealer that they were having problems with the fans because of the sizing and that they will have to order a different size to send to van dorn auto to be replaced in my vehicle. When I called for a recall they told me there was no recall. How can that be if the original parts have to be resized to fix the problem. 2nd issue the windows operated like they are off track when it rains. This has been since I purchased the car new in 2006. Every time I go to the dealer, they try to get me to replace the part but they wont offer any discounts. This is a problem with the manufacture and I don't feel I should have to pay for it to be fixed.
