Table 1. Wheel related problems of Chevrolet Equinox

Problem Category Number of Problems
Wheel problems

Wheel problem #1

Over-torqued lugs, broken wheel studs, safety issue.

Wheel problem #2

This auto is not driven often due to the fact that the owner is out of town for work more than she is home. The car was driven on a three hour trip when the sidewall of the michelin latitude tour 225/65/r17 tire blew out. She was able to just make it off the road and change the tire. Upon further inspection another tire shows sidewall cracking that covers the outside sidewall.

Wheel problem #3

Front passenger wheel cracked, daily driving route does not have potholes or any other debris that could have cause the rim to crack randomly.

Wheel problem #4

I have to constantly add oil. I have more frequent oil changes. Panel doesn’t display low oil . Mechanic & several others tell me these cars burn oil faster. Combustion of oil leading to excessive oil consumption & premature wear on engine after putting air in tires, the sensors have to be reset & they say I have to go to a dealer.

Report of dangerous rental vehicle and serious safety incident – rental agreement #289216922 I am submitting this report to formally document a serious safety issue involving a rental vehicle I received from avis in may 2024. Several safety components malfunctioned and put the safety of my and my passenger in a life threatening situation. At the time of pickup, the vehicle had a visible dent near the front right tire, which was acknowledged by the rental agent and dismissed as cosmetic. I also noted a faulty rear hatch, which opened unpredictably and struck occupants in the head on multiple occasions as it behaved erratically. Over the course of the rental, the vehicle displayed additional signs of mechanical failure — including instability at highway speeds, loud squealing, and parts of the bumper physically falling off during the trip. On may 30th, while driving at highway speed, the vehicle suffered a sudden tire blowout. Critically, the onboard system misidentified the location of the blown tire, indicating the front right tire had failed when it was actually the rear right. This misinformation delayed proper response and nearly resulted in a rollover. We were stranded on the roadside for over an hour, narrowly avoiding several collisions. A critical system failure. A responding tow truck driver observed signs that the vehicle may have previously been involved in a collision — which aligns with the visible damage present when the vehicle was picked up. Avis has, despite multiple attempts, refused to confirm whether the vehicle was removed from service after the incident or whether any safety inspection was conducted -- we remain severely concerned for the safety of anyone else using this vehicle. This vehicle should not have been rented in its condition. The failure of safety systems, mechanical instability, prior collision damage, and the loss of exterior components created a serious and unacceptable risk to the driver, passenger, and others on the road.

Wheel problem #6

Tire blow and lost control hit the tree.

Wheel problem #7

The underbody of my 2012 Equinox is completely rusted and now not drivable. The kframe is rotten and the car is not safe to drive. The engine consumes a great amount of oil. I've been told the engine needs to be replaced. I've only had the car for 2 years.

Wheel problem #8

So where do I begin. There are no leaks on my driveway but I have to add coolant every other day & then when I opened my hood it looks like there’s grease everywhere like over the bolts where the bottom & top meet. At time the car stalls it loses power or doesn’t even pick up power. It just drags. Sometimes a strong odor comes from the vents of the a/c & then it at times doesn’t blow cool air just flat air. Also six months after having the vehicle the 2 tpms went out & when I took it back to dealer where I purchased it they basically told me that I didn’t even have any tpms that the machine didn’t pick up any & now the display was showing all 4 empty & the tpms icon constantly on the display. I found that odd & I didn’t know much about tpms at the time. I was still bothered so I kept asking other people I would come in contact with being new to the state of texas & they said the only way it would not come up on the machine would be as if they wouldn’t be inside as they were removed but again I drove in with just 2 marking on the display. Not a big deal. I did purchase the gold package of warranty with the vehicle but I have no idea how to use it. I’m not sure if they even did all the past recalls on this vehicle. I read one of them was a window & I too hear that as I drive.

Wheel problem #9

The light is showing “0“ psi, service tire monitor system, tire sensor but not sure if it’s the tire or dash.

Wheel problem #10

The car shakes between 30-40 mph, with or without acceleration. I’ve done a lot of research on this issue many people are having the same issue and can’t find a solution.

Wheel problem #11

Tire thread is coming off for some reason also my car was stalling to pick up speed like if it was stoping and going.

Wheel problem #12

When flat towing behind a motorhome, per manual instructions, going on or off a highway ramp. . . . Cloverleaf, the tires will squeal like they are dragging. This does not occur every time, however 75% of the time it does. A very loud screeching, dragging or braking, pulling the motorhome down from 35mph or 40mph to 10mph. This is also noticed occasionally on turns from one street to another, however short lived by comparison. The dragging/slowing is unnerving and dangerous to suddenly slow down with no brake action by the motorhome. This has occurred on several trips this summer (2023). ****several times this summer, most recent of 10/12/23. This car was purchased primarily because it states in the manual, it could be flat towed behind a motorhome. We are concerned that this may be damaging the vehicle and putting us and others at risk.

Wheel problem #13

Got hit at 40 miles an hour in a parking lot while a running dog came through and it was caotic.

Wheel problem #14

Tire pressure sensor system repaired two years ago. Car has just crossed over 16k miles, so it is used very little. Tire pressure sensors keep going. Interestingly, my neighbor has just bought the same year vehicle and she has the same exact problem. This needs to be recalled immediately.

Wheel problem #15

Bent driveshaft.

Wheel problem #16

Vehicle was sold with defective tires that wear out prematurely,NHTSA issued a warning to chevy see chevy bulletin numbered 19-na-078,chevy never notified owners of these cars of the defect, this same tire the michelin ltx had been recalled many times since 2012,yet chevy continued to use these tires on there leased vehicles, knowing by the time the lease was up the tire would be replaced anyhow, however they did realize the tires would wear down even quicker then they thought. We contacted our chevy dealer, who told us they didn't even know about the recall, and gave us a hard time about getting theses tires replaced. We have pushed chevy into finally getting a appointment to fix this, only to be told they would have to go through a long procedure to do this, and they would have to keep the car for at least a day or more,to change tires? according to chevys own bulletin, maximum time to do this would be 90 minutes for all four tires. I have pictures and documents to support everything I have said, chevy is running a scam ,and NHTSA needs to call them on it.

Wheel problem #17

On Friday, 11/04/2022 at about 1230 while traveling south on I-35 in waco, texas the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox rs texas registration rpw-5038 driven by colleen amaro experienced a dangerous incident. She indicated that she heard a loud noise followed by immediate deflation of the driver side front tire. Colleen was in the left of travel and immediately pulled over to the left shoulder of the roadway. Colleen then contacted aaa for assistance. Waco towing responded to the scene. The vehicle was towed to a safe location for assistance. The subsequent damage was the tire rim was cracked across the middle of it around the whole wheel. The damage looked like a clean break except one part where the rim was bent inwards. There was a dent in the rim’s edge from what appears to be impact damage with the roadway surface possibly caused from the rim breaking apart. There was no other visible damage to the edge of the rim of the tire. The exterior part of the tire rim and the tire do not appear to be damaged. The rim was a 19x7. 5 rim/wheel. A replacement rim was ordered from stonebriar Chevrolet in frisco, texas. Colleen indicated that had she been traveling in any other lane this could have been a serious incident. In my opinion it appears that there may be a defect with that particular rim/wheel which caused the damage and near serious motor vehicle crash. I am a retired bergen county police officer in new jersey. During my career I’ve investigated numerous motor vehicle crashes but none experiencing this type of equipment failure. My name is angel amaro. It is my opinion and hope that this incident be investigated further. Hopefully to prevent this from happening again with a negative outcome.

Wheel problem #18

I just got the car on Thursday, 11/3/2022. Around 1:00 pm. On 11/3/2022 around 3:30 pm, the following happened: the Equinox started wobbling as I reached the speed of approximately 40 mph. Then I had a red light. After it turned green and I began driving, the vehicle started wobbling and it was hard to control my position in the traffic lane. Other drivers avoided me, and slowed down to prevent an accident. At this point, I reached a reduced speed construction area. When I drove at about 20 mph, the vehicle wobbled even worse. The driver’s side wheel started going clunk, clunk. , so I pulled into a gas station. The left front tire was low, but nowhere near flat. A man put some air in the tire and it held the air. At that point, I recognized that it was too dangerous to drive the vehicle again. Chevy roadside assistance took it to the nearest dealer, mills Chevrolet. They will look at it on Monday 11/4/2022.

Wheel problem #19

My car notified me that I had a low tire. I put air in it. A few days later I would get another notification my tire was low I had a slow leak in my tire. Took tire into tire shop and was told my rim was cracked on the inside. I am still under factory warranty. I called the dealership and was told to bring the rim/tire and the vehicle in so they could take pictures of the crack in the rim, the car and the VIN #. The service tech submitted everything to gm. Gm denied the claim and said it was not a defect on their end. The dealership offered to order a new rim at our cost of $938. 50 and would be available the next day.

Wheel problem #20

Car has been brought in three times for wobble at speeds of 39 mph accelerating shaking steering wheel. Dealer continues to just add weights to tires and problem does not go away.

Wheel problem #21

I am constantly having to fix my "learn remote" settings, vehicle stereo volume does not always match the level of it's output, blinker continues to get stuck on even after the steering wheel is in the position for the blinker to have ceased, door locks are sometimes stuck unlocked and sometimes stuck locked, ignition sometimes locked in acc and will not allow for key to be removed, lug nuts have somehow become "swollen" and the dealership could not remove them in order to do a rotation, there is no protection plate under the vehicle causing easy access to vital items, the ac (for the third time since I got the car a year ago) has mysteriously stopped working, the fan motor continues to run for approximately 35 minutes after the vehicle has been turned off, fuel injectors are clogged (second time and I have already had this issue cleaned), headlights have collected water on inside, there is no rubber hose barrier(s) for any door, the hood, the hatch, the door windows, charging outlets are loosely fitted and do not add life to my electronics(they are for whatever reason being drained), the entire underside of the vehicle has become damaged, has begun to rust and bolts/plugs/other vital components have needed to be replaced once again due to there being no protection for the underside of the vehicle. These are just the components that I can think of off the top of my head!.

Wheel problem #22

The spare tire from the factory doesn’t clear the brake caliper on the front hub. Was on a major highway in the rain and at nighttime with a flat tire. I went to put the spare on and it didn’t fit over the caliber. Had to put the flat back on then take the tire off the rear and put the spare on the rear and use the good rear tire to put on the front because the spare didn’t fit. I called gm they put a case together and I had the car looked at from the dealership with now outcome as of the date of this complaint.

Wheel problem #23

I was put in a rental by enterprise from a rear-end. I was involved while my car was in the shop fixing the trunk. This rental had broken window glass under the passenger seat, and the car started sounding weird when turning and driving. On a morning, that same week dropping off my ex now at her job that same week, on my way back the SUV started making the sounds more profound or louder (metal grinding on metal) and immediately after the whole front of the SUV hit the floor making me lose control on the highway 408 and hit the wall while spinning out of control until it stopped in the middle of the highway. I was escorted to a near gas station by one of the cops that came out of the traffic that was on hold. They moved the car to the side and escorted us. From there, my ex's mom checked carfax for the VIN number, which came out to having 4 previous accidents of the same front area. I reported it to the enterprise agent that called me asking about the car being towed, and I explicitly told them I'm not ok and you guys failed to put me in a safe vehicle. From there they charged my insurance for all the damages and never assumed responsibility!.

Wheel problem #24

I have had oil consumption problems. Changed oil before due made all maintenance work on time or before due. Right after I bought it I put the main seal in it. Because it was leaking oil. That was$1000 more added to my loan. Put 4 hub bears on the front because of the steering instabilities which corrected it for a short time. But now that I am trying to sell the car I hear there is a recall on the motor but when I run it here there isn't so I am stuck. It hurts me to ride or drive it due to spine issues. And now I am stuck with this SUV. Thank you gm for having us buy american.

Wheel problem #25

We were told our tires are bad and need replacing. We have leased this car for 2 years with only 31,140 on the tires. This is our 4th Equinox that we have leased and have never had to replace the tires before we returned our cars on our 3 year leases. We are very disappointed.

Wheel problem #26

The entire axle came off upon hitting a curve. The tire did not pop but the entire wheel came off. The insurance company is hunting for refurbished parts to put on the car.

Wheel problem #27

My repair stabiltrak light came on in the dash . The check engine light is illuminated, my traction control light , is on . My anti-lock brake light is on . All of sudden when I pull out into traffic my car loses power on acceleration and my anti-lock brakes engaged . I have to pull over so I'm not rear ended . This has happened to me driving on a city street and on highway . There is a serious problem with the stabiltrak/ traction control system. I only have 89,000 miles on my vehicle . I see this is a known problem on chevy Equinox . I'm worried about being killed in an accident since my vehicle loses power without warning . These vehicles need to be recalled !.

Wheel problem #28

Driving down interstate heard a loud bang driver front . Front of the vehicle dropped to the ground and vehicle started to roll 6 times upon further inspection by police and mechanic front rim exploded and detached from vehicle lug nuts are there and center of rim is there tires are all new but rim was gone.

Wheel problem #29

Excessive tire wear, 17,700 miles, tread depth according to lease inspection report depth 2. 5/32. Tires were rotated 2x. Brand of tire is michelin 225//65/17 premier ltx. Was told by lease company inspector tires are not safe. Dot m3 3t 02vx 4817.

Wheel problem #30

Car keeps overheating replaced everything still overheating.

Wheel problem #31

While driving, the tires felt like they were being locked up to keep from fishtailing even though roads were clear and dry with normal acceleration. After driving, parked vehicle and sat in it for an hour. Afterwards, turned vehicle on and the screen stated to service esc. Stabilitrak, lane assist, and parking assist light came on. After a couple hours with the vehicle off and drove a block, the warning lights turned off and became normal. Then after an hour of the vehicle sitting and turned off for an hour, we began driving on the highway, after an hour of driving, the screen stated to service esc again. Stabilitrak, lane assist, and parking assist light came on again.

Wheel problem #32

Had my Equinox for couple years without any problems. Just recently abs light came on along with traction control. SUV slides to the side when applying breaks. A month before this started engine light kept turning on and off. Didn't stay long enough to see whats wrong. Gas gauge does not show correct amount of fuel 1 out of 5 days.

Wheel problem #33

Tire pressure readings on instrument panel give alert in cold weather. Even when tire pressure is maintained manually there is anxiety about putting too much air into tires even when cold. Instrument panel registers 26 - 29 psi when in actually there is 35 psi in tires.

Wheel problem #34

Rattle and noise in the front passenger side of vehicle as soon as vehicle is turned on and while in motion, making weird noises and movements while driving, occasional hard shift, back rear drivers tire losing pressure for no reason, pulling code for p0420, did a google search and seen multiple complaints for the same issues on the same year, make, and model but no recall on my VIN or history of recall, while others said dealers had said it was due to a recall. Just bought from baxter dealership in bellevue, ne two weeks ago.

Wheel problem #35

I bought this truck but they are saying they fixed stuff that nobody has touched. Attached will be their recall. And second a photo showing nobody fixed it, little lone touched it for repair. Scamming customers. I cannot get my tires to sync to the vehicle either. Both safety.

Wheel problem #36

Bought this car on 11/3/19, within the first week there was a horrible thumping and vibrating while driving or turning the wheel. So I took it back, they told me they would replace my wheel hub on the drivers side, I return to pick up my car, the same issue is there just not as bad, he claimed he still replaced the wheel hub. So I take the tire off myself and inspect the wheel hub and tires, and they in fact didnt replace the hub, they just siliconed the wheel hub to the end of the axle shaft, which now has caused other damage to my trans and or suspension. I call to let them know and the owner first played stupid as if he didnt know if they replaced it, so I told them id call back. I waited a week called back, let him know what I found on the wheel hub that was supposed to be replaced. . Then he gets nasty and says its out of their hands ect, and they did replace it. . Well no wheel hub is gong to go bad in less then a month with normal driving conditions, and there is no reason at all silicone should be used to hold anything to an axle or wheel hub. I am worried about the safety of my family and wife, and I am suppose to continue to pay another 2700 dollars on a car they lied about during my warranty.

Wheel problem #37

Bought Equinox in March 2018 equipped with 4 hankook tires. Shortly after purchase, the hankook tires began to lose air pressure. In January of 2019, I took the car in for the annual state inspection and told the mechanic the right rear tire lost much more air pressure than the other tires. The mechanic said there was a screw in it. It was patched. The tire was rotated from back to front. The tires were still losing pressure . On October 22, 2019, while parked at my home, the right front had 5lbs and the right rear had 6lbs of pressure. I put air in the tires, the right rear took the air, but the right front would not. I had the car towed in on October 24, 2019 to the dealer, priority Chevrolet in chesapeake, va and they had to put 2 goodyear tires on to replace the hankook ones because the hankook tires had been discontinued. My concern is the that the 2 remaining hankook tires might go flat while driving.

Wheel problem #38

I have 41,000 miles and my car started making a weird wobbling noise ( worse when I turn)at the left front drivers side tire. I was advised to fix it right away as it is a safety hazard. Took it in and I had to have my left front wheel baring replaced for $600. 00 I have 41,000 miles and these should be good for 80,000-150,000 miles. I kept the part.

Wheel problem #39

The car when I drive over the 60 miles, make auto break by self. Is really scary.

Wheel problem #40

When driving down the road, the dashboard lights go off, the radio goes off and reads lost communication with telematics control module. During this time, the car is still running in motion, the dashboard lights come back on, but the gauges are at 0. The radio turns off completely, the heating/air shuts off, the signal lights don't work, and my headlights start to flicker going on and off. This is very dangerous when driving at night. After minutes, everything comes back on, but likely goes out again. I've started to experience this in every trip to and from. Also, I recently had an oil change and they found metal shavings in the oil. This could eventually clog my motor if not handled properly, and first have to find out what metal pieces are rubbing. Last but not least, my tire pressure monitoring system does not properly read the actual tire pressure. I just don't know where to start.

Wheel problem #41

2 days after driving this 2010 chevy Equinox off the lot. The power steering pump goes out. The power steering had a winding noise since it was replaced, and they told me there may just be air in the line. After riving it that way for a month took it in to get that looked at and they ended up replacing that and said it was a faulty pump. Then days later one of the tire sensors goes out. Had that replaced! then a few hours after driving it that same tire sensor goes out again. This is the worst vehicle that general motors as made!!!!! it had new tires when we bought this vehicle and not even 8 months the two rear tires were making the rear end slide all over the road and after investigating the problem I found the two rear tires had wires showing on the inside of the wheel tread all the way around the wheels. Take it in and the mechanic said it was because we didn't have a tire rotation! well, after replacing the tires, then 6 months down the road the new tires are in the exact same place just on the rear tires. There is no way that you need to have a tire rotation that often. Had them replaced once again. The heat stopped working and only blows cold air! found out that these vehicles are known for this issue. That sensor up under the glove box isn't strong enough to open/close the vent to keep regulating the heat control. Now, the 2nd set of tires have the same wires going around the tires!!!!! major safety issue! if, gm doesn't do something about these issues they are going to be facing a lot of lawsuits or customers going elsewhere. Now the wipers stopped working and like the control arms fell off under the outer dash area!!!! take these vehicles straight to the junkyards. Oh, and the stability trac control issue has happened as well were the vehicle loses all power in the middle of a four-lane freeway!!!.

Wheel problem #42

I have been having issues with the tires , at first I had a screw in the back passenger tire . The dealership did fix that, then I had to take the vehicle back because the same tire kept loosing air then it was the valve stem, now the tire on the back passenger side is showing that it is low and I have had to go to the dealership, they are giving me grief about these damn tires ! I don't know if it is something going on with the sensors or if they just need to go on and replace these tires since I am on the new tires for life program but every time I have to go to the dealership I end up with attitude from them and a migraine from having to deal with some Smart ass that is telling me that I can't get a new tire until they determine that I can or if it is a sensor issue I'm gonna have to pay for it! no sir !!! this vehicle is brand damn new !!! I will get a lawyer and I will see Chevrolet dealership and whomever in court and yall can buy this crap car back! either fix this issue or we can do this another way.

Wheel problem #43

2018 Equinox all wheel drive tires, michelin premier ltx m&s, size, 225/60r18 100h tpc bsw. All 4 tires are down to 1/32" tread depth at 16482 miles. Vehicle serviced 3 times by Chevrolet dealer for oil change and tires rotated twice. Tires kept at recommended tire pressure of 35 psi. Tire rated by manufacturer for 60,000 miles. Tires evenly worn across tread surfaces. Chevrolet declined warranty claim stating tire wear is a tire manufacturer's issue. Dealer contacted michelin representative who states that there is a recall on the same tire with either a 16" or 17" rim size but not 18". Dealer relayed that michelin would replace the tires with same identical model however I would be responsible for 25% of tire retail cost as well as all taxes, mounting and balancing totaling over $300. 00. This does not seem right as I am sure that the 18" tires will also eventually be included in this recall.

Wheel problem #44

Tire pressure monitor system is reading incorrectly. It's saying my tire pressure is 18 when it is 48.

Wheel problem #45

The tpms system:. We have a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. Thru on star we get a "low pressure" tire warning every few weeks. And the warning takes over the speed gage which has been a problem. Air is added where indicated but we will get another notice in a week later. Now lately around February 5th, 2019, the car was taken to the dealer. Tires checked. They said that nothing was wrong except for too much air. They reset the computer. 7 days later around February 12th, 2019, we got another warning. Again it blocks the speed monitor and it won't let you reset it. The week of February 19th, 2019, I contacted the dealer again. Concern that it could be a sensor. They finally called back today-2-25-2019. Patrick from serra Chevrolet tried to down play the sensor needing to be replaced. He put more emphasis on the weather. But we keep explaining that it happens in spring to winter. Serra Chevrolet-southfield is where we leased this vehicle. Concern: 1. With this continuing to happen we will never know when we could get a tire blow out. 2. Not being able to see the speed monitor off and on is also very dangerous. And it won't allow us to reset it. We want all 2018 Equinox to be checked. The sensors in the 2018 Equinox must be checked and be replaced. We need some support from the manufacturer/gm. ****also check, delay in acceleration after that gas pause in the engine. Thank you. And be blessed. Pastor deborah satterwhite, c/o edwin satterwhite-consumers.

Wheel problem #46

2017 Equinox came with michelin latitude tour x tires. After less than 2 years (30,000 miles), tire sidewalls are severely cracked. I have never seen a tire degrade as badly as these have. The factory in poland must be using substandard materials to make these tires. Dot b53t 031x 4516. According to michelin, I will be responsible for at least 80% of the replacement cost. I always thought michelin was a high quality company but after seeing how these tires are falling apart, I no longer think that.

Wheel problem #47

I need to report that when driving on these icy roads that my awd Equinox feels like it swerves? it feels like it takes me into the other lane most of the time. Now, I don't know if its the awd causing it but other awd vehicles that I've driven have never did it this bad to the point that it feels almost like my back end starts going sideways.

Wheel problem #48

~tl the contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet exquinox. The contact stated that the rear tires were worn. The contact stated that while driving both back tires are warn and cause for a bumpy ride. Now the tires are warn and when the contact drives they go off the road. The vehicle was taken to kleme sales inc. , 125-129 n 2nd Ave, stratford, WI 54484 (715) 407-4179 where a mechanic test drove the vehicle and they told the contact that the tires were fine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and they provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 16,450. Jw.

Wheel problem #49

I am not exactly sure what it is that's wrong with my car it has to do with my brakes and the pedal. . I thought the brake pads were bad. When I changed them it had almost brand new ones on. . My traction control light stays on and my abs light stays on. . The pedal has hard spots in it and it just grinds like the pads are bad when I hit my brakes! its not safe and I don't know what's wrong with it! my research shows I'm not the only one with this car that has the problem. Its been a problem for a bit now. . I just bought this car and very disappointed. . I have 2 kids and can't even fix my brake problem because I don't know what to fix and can't afford to to replace it all. . The problem is mainly when driving slow through towns the brakes pedal locks and it grinds and I have to pump it several times to try and get it to work. . Then I have to my e brake if it don't. . Thanks an angry customer.

Wheel problem #50

I asked mechanic to rotate my tires. They reported that a majority of lug nuts had deep cracks and metal was separating on the lug nuts. One lug nut on front passenger wheel was frozen on and sheared in half when attempted to remove. I had to take vehicle to Chevrolet dealership. The dealer advised me that if I drove the car in that condition it would be impossible to change tire if I got a flat. On 12/18/2018 I returned to dealership and they recommended that I change all the lug nuts due to cracks. They also advised me that the wrench that came with the car would not fit the broken lug nut and it would have been impossible to change the tire on the road. The broke the stud in drilling out the lug nut. The total bill came to 6 hours labor $720, 20 lug nuts $179. 80, one stud $5. 99 plus tax for $937 total. I believe their is safety issue with these lug nuts. They are made from two types of metal that with use appear to start to separate with large cracks in the chrome metal on the axis where the two metals appear to join. In my situation it would have posed a definite road hazard if I had attempted to remove the tire and the bolt sheared in half along the axis of where the metals joined. I would have been left in a situation where is was impossible to change the tire along the side of the road. The car would have had to be towed as a tow truck operator would have found it impossible to change the tire.

Wheel problem #51

Our 37 yr old son who was visiting from out of town for the holidays was driving on our local interstate when he heard a loud noise in the front end and what he thought was the drivers side. He knew he did not hit anything in the road or pothole. The next thing he knew he was quickly sliding to a stop. He did not know what happened. He pulled onto the shoulder of the road and saw the left front tire was missing, but observed that the five lug nuts and the center part of the aluminum alloy cast rim were still tight and intact on the hub. Two new york state police responded and retrieved the tire, rubber still fully in tact, no blow out, no damage, but the entire inner rim had disintegrated was missing. The only part of the rim left was the circle area that the tire hugs, basically the lip area. All the center mass, spokes were gone. Lug nuts were tight. . Trooper said in his 28 yrs he never saw anything like this and wrote in his accident report as cause of accident "faulty equipment failure". The vehicle struck nothing prior, during, over after this event. Had my wife been driving, she probably would have panicked or worse. This could have easily become a multi car pileup with injuries and or fatalities. Having an automotive background and experience and understanding building my first car engine at age 15 yrs old it is my belief that this was a faulty rim based on impurities in its casting process or a possible stress crack. Had this been billet machined aluminum instead of cast aluminum/alloy this event would never had happened. My concern is public safety in regards to this failure, not knowing if this is an isolated incident or are there millions of cars out there that this could happen to, which I know gm would try to sweep under the rug as it would cost millions of dollars for recalls to refit cars with newer safer rims. I have several photos/video. Thank you.

Wheel problem #52

After the first snow, driving with my new Equinox the slush built up inside the wheel-wells and affected the driving. My car shimmied while driving at any speed, and I have to stop and chop out the ice around the tires and spring above the tire, which is very close to the tire. It seems to be the "fabric" that the wheel-well is made from. I have never had this happen on any other SUV I have driven in winter. Now that I have owned it a while and today is the first real snow of fall, it is continuing to do this. I called the dealer today and they said that all day today they have been dealing with customers and this issue.

Wheel problem #53

The vehicle burns oil and the gas pedal occasionally stops working while driving and the steering wheel locks. I was driving on a street downtown in a city and the gas pedal stopped working in the middle of the street and the steering wheel would not turn. I had to restart the car to get it to work again.

Wheel problem #54

I purchased this vehicle I June 28th of 2018. I have had to take it into the shop at least three times with complaints of squeaking from brakes mirror alert problems trunk sticking and the suspension has gotten worse since I first started driving it I'm noticing it. Every time I complain they tell me nothing is wrong except for at the beginning of my lease it had to be taken in for repairs. I was told that the brakes squeaking is not a safety issue and it was recommend to change my brake pads and in the same conversation was told that my brakes were fine. I spoke to the manager at balise chevy because I felt like this veichele was a lemon. I asked if there was anything they could do because I did not have time to keep taking this brand new veichele because it was a lease so they did nothing. Balise chevy in warwick should have notes of complaints. I also took the vehicle to hurd auto mall in johnston. There was a slow leak in one of my tires and balise could not find the leak so I was told if it happens again they would submerge the tire and check that way. They sent me home the tire continued to leak air my last oil change was done at hurd automall in johnston where they did an oil change found the tire leak no problem and fixed it.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. While the contact was retrieving items from the vehicle, the front passenger tire exploded unexpectedly while in park. Also, while driving various speeds, various warning indicators, including the air bag, check engine, and power steering, illuminated intermittently. In addition, the serpentine belt fractured on three separate occasions due to a defective pulley inside the engine. The contact took the vehicle to various independent mechanics to have it serviced; however, the serpentine belt and the warning indicator failures persisted. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 8,000.

Wheel problem #58

I purchased a 2012 gm Equinox on sept. 6, 2017 sept 9 my check engine light came on and vehicle was low on oil we added oil sept 13 I had a tire claim due to tires being dry rotted per dealership. Oct 19 car started driving funny, stalling stopped in middle of road with my 18 month old son and my 8 year old disabled daughter. Had to call someone to come. When checked vehicle had almost no oil in it again. Oct 29 bringing disabled daughter to school when car stalled in middle of road. Checked and there was almost no oil in it. We have had to add oil to vehicle at least once a week since just to make sure I didn't break down taking my daughter to school. We did this every Monday just as preventative maintenance because obviously there was a problem with the motor. Feb 6 even after keeping oil in vehicle weekly my car wouldn't start this morning. Checked oil etc. It finally started up later that day and I went to get my step daughters. When we got ready to leave and tried to crank car it made a loud whiny kind of sound and it smelled like wires or something burning. Steering locked up and it wouldn't turn over again and I couldn't remove key from ignition. The vehicle wouldn't crank back. Called someone to come. They checked battery, fuses, etc. I ended up having to leave my car where it was overnight believing it was an ignition problem. Feb 7 mechanic was called to check car. Rear main sealed was busted, timing chain had broken and severely damaged entire motor. Entire engine was completely shot and had numerous broken pieces! I was told there was no warranty on this and dealership couldn't do anything about it. I decided to do some research. There are literally hundreds of complaints with details very similar to my own and end results the same as my own.

I have a 2013 chevy Equinox with michelin latitude tour tires 235/55r18 99t m+s dot m33j 007x 1810. The vehicle has less than 42,000 miles on it. The tire tread on all four tires is peeling away from the sidewall, exactly what is occurring with the other sizes of latitude tour tires that have been recalled. The tire that I have should also be recalled because I am having the same problem as the other recalled tires and have to replace all four tires immediately, not because the tread is wearing out, but because they are in danger of blowing out due to the tread/sidewall separation, which is a manufacturer defect.

Wheel problem #62

Lug nuts have rusted through and are cracked. 70,000 miles on vehicle, and have had tires rotated at dealership at appropriate intervals.

Wheel problem #63

Today ( 7/7/17 ) going approx 25mph the passenger front tire blew out at the side wall causing the vehicle to shoot to the right and graze the curb. Prior to the failure the tire pressure monitor light went on and right after the light turned on the blow out happened. The tire had 3571 miles of which we put approx 300 miles on it after purchasing the vechile as a demo from the dealer on 6/29/17. Vehicle has michelin latitude touring p225/65/r17.

I have lived on sheads mountain rd for 3 years now. In that 3 years we have had 9 flat tires and all of them have had rocks in them and most of them we have had to get new tires because this road is so bad and they could not plug or patch them. My husband works for escavating company for 28 years and isince we have lived here they have never graded this road! I have sent so many complaints and have even called and talked with vdot and have never gotten anywhere. I have a brand new 2016 SUV with 13,000 miles on it and in the last 3 weeks have had to get 2 brand new tires. I filed what I thought was a claim already but it was just a road complaint and got a call from mike baily and when I went into detail about my complaint and that I was getting a lawyer and I was tired of these road conditions the very next day they came out and actually graded the road instead of just throwing stone down on itt like they usually do. The washboards were so bad you literally had to drive 5 mph and still you about went into the ditch which is dangerous in itself because the ditch line was so deep. I am submitting a claim for both of my tires and I have a picture of one of them with the rock.

Tire inflator monitor is still acting up won't keep accurate reading or hold information for longer than a few hours, vehicle is stationary!!!.

Wheel problem #68

Continue issues with the tire sensors and false readings. I have had the vehicle to shop at least 2 x a month for this and still same issue. I see that in 2011 this as an issue with the vehicle, but I my vehicle was built July 2012. Light comes on at 30lbs and everytime there is no issue with any of the tires. I believe that this is an issue that needs address.

Wheel problem #69

Was alerted to the condition of my tires while on an eight hour trip from home. Dry rot on tires with less than 40,000 miles. Tires rotated regularly. Mechanic said I was in dire danger. Had to install 4 new tires, an expense not expected on michelin tires, of which was a selling point on my car. He said they won't even carry them because of the dry rot problems they've been seeing. My husband looked on youtube when I called to get his take. Said there was a stream of stories and videos from folks just like me. The lord was with me that day for sure.

I bought this car used in 2026 I have not had it a year yet and after the first month it has been in for repairs, the wheels sounds like they are coming off at times, it sounds like something is dragging underneath, brakes scrubs even with my placing new one on, sometime it feel like transmission is going out, it pulls hard at time. Even tho this car is old can I still take it in for recall problems. I was not told about any recalls when I bought this car, I paid $3500 and I feel I have almost paid this much in repairs, all of this happens when car is in motion. On highway, streets and it pops sometime when making turns.

Sounds like the brakes grinding, starts unsafe stopping distance and happens out of blue, I have to constantly keep trying to push the brakes so it can stop. At times brakes will also be hard as rock no warning and have no brakes at all, been happening off and on. Abs/tc lights on, I was told I needed new hub bearing assembly, rotors and brake pads, all was changed and still not fixed. I keep reading about a pig tail harness but don¿t know the correct part number or its location. Started around March/2016 and its ongoing, almost got hit yesterday because the truck wouldn't brake.

Wheel problem #75

Tire warning light first came on 7/15/15 as low pressure in passenger side rear tire. Pumped tire to specified tire pressure, but tire light illuminated again a few days later. Again, pumped tire to specified tire pressure. Light continued to illuminate, therefore, took to local Chevrolet dealer for inspection. Dealer informed us of tire tread separation and recommended immediate tire replacement because of safety hazard. Subsequently had all four tires replaced on 8/13/15, mileage on vehicle 50,990. Driving back from el paso I felt a small vibration 1/4 of the way on a trip back from el paso to phx. The vibration became stronger the farther I went. I checked and the left rear tire was separated. This was the second tire that has separated in a two week period. The previous was replaced by the dealership.

Wheel problem #83

I pulled into my driveway and put the car in park. I noticed a small puff of white smoke from the hood in one specific place. Prior to this, there was not a check engine light, there was not a messgae warning of reduced engine power. The car was inspected at a certified gm dealership on 4/16/2014. Nothing was noted on the diagnostic form to fix or replace. It was completed at the dearlership that we purchased the car at. I quickly got out of my car and begin to get my three year old out of his carseat. I looked at the hood and there was so much black smoke pouring out of the hood I could not see our shed or anything in front of me. I yelled to the other two children (both 6), to get out of their carseats and run into the woods. I unbuckled one child and the other child slipped out of her buckle. They ran to a safe spot. I ran into the house called 911 and got our fire extinguisher. Came outsude and there was black smoke filling the sky and pouring out of the hood in numerous places. I used the fire extinguisher which did not help. I got the garden hose and tried to use that, but was getting too dangerous. So I waited for the fire department to arrive. At this time there was flames coming from the bottom and top of the car and the car was making loud cracking and exploding noises. There was so much smoke I could not see the house which was close by. The windows exploded and the passanger airbag went off. The three children countinued to be 500 feet into the woods and I frantically was running around (37 week pregnant). The shed caught on fire. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The two front tires were completly melted and ruined our driveway.

Wheel problem #84

I bought my car from a gm dealership in hanford, CA after just I took my used 2006 Equinox home and went out the start it that night it would not start key kept getting stuck, also a very rough idle, ignition switch issue I would have to fight with it from time to time did leave me stranded I called the dealership they had be bring it in the looked at and did nothing took it back again and they cleaned the throttle body? but did not look at the ignition issue because they advisor said there was no due bill for it also 3 months later my abs and trac control light was on I took it to a different service shop in visalia CA and they found that I needed a rear hub and senor also a alignment paid almost 400. 00,and still did not fix the issue they were helpful and told me that there tons of issue with my make and model regarding this make and model to take it to the place I got it to see if they can help me, it was horrible to drive spoke with a sales manager I told them about the ignition issue and abs & trac control light, they got it in there shop to check it out and gave me a rental to use to get back and forth to work, called to pick up they had a 600. 00 dollars bill for me!!! and still did not fix the ignition !!! it did it the problem in front of the sales manager and he said OH wow I refuse to pay that amount I just paid 300. 00 he told me when another manager comes back we can make a deal, I feel that I was sold a car that is unsafe for me and my family!! I can drive and go down a rough road or my leg hit the keys and my keys will fall out of the ignition and the car is still operating !!! and they will not fix it its just unbelievable!!!.

Wheel problem #85

On thanksgiving morning in preparation for a three hour drive I began to put air in the right rear tire of my chevy Equinox because the pressure sensor was showing it a few pounds lower than the other tires. When I removed the fill hose, the aluminum (cast I think) valve stem end broke off with the valve mechanism itself and the tire rapidly deflated. No unusual force was applied to the valve with the portable air pump I have used numerous times on this and other car tires. There was no accident because the valve failed while the car was in my driveway (something else to be thankful for that day!). I just read where a similar vehicle (Ford escape I believe) experienced a valve stem failure that apparently contributed to a roll over and fatality. Although a rubber valve stem cracked in the Ford case, the rapid deflation would be the same in my case had I been driving - and the potential drastic results could have been the same. I had the valve replaced for $156. 00. Although I preferred to replace it with a rubber one, I was told the state of rhode island inspection would fail since the absence of the remote sensor would cause a dash-board warning light. The technician said the valve cracked due to corrosion - in a four year old car!.

Wheel problem #86

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while coming to a stop, the brake pedal was depressed with excessive vibration. The traction control and abs warning indicators illuminated intermittently. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic three times where both front wheel hub bearings and sensors were replaced on separate occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000. Js.

Wheel problem #87

Herd a grinding noise and felt like the transmission was stuck in a gear. Brought the truck to ogden car care where I was told it's a wheel bearing on the left and that the car is pulling emissions codes bring it to chevy. So I brought the truck to sunrise Chevrolet were they confirmed a bad wheel bearing and no emissions codes were showing up. So I took it to my mechanic at route 66 tire and auto were he told me it has a broken axel and was only being held on by the cv boot. He also stated that if the boot would have come off the truck could have been a terrible crash costing the lives of its occupants and other dri I ers on the road.

Wheel problem #88

So my traction control an abs light goes off an I take it to the dealer to have it diagnosed, and it appears my left wheel sensor is faulty and can cause lock up in breaks and decreased power. Turns out to be a common problem on all chev Equinox models. There have been various complaints and nothing is being done about it as I see this as a major accident waiting to happen, please take this into consideration.

Wheel problem #89

On first visit in August 2012 was told it was a wheel noise and that it would go away . Days later noise was back . Took it back to dealer service manager rode with me heard noise. Car was kept a day on picking it up was told it was a "moaning noise" and it was due to rubber seal drying and rubbing on metal sleeve right rear hub replaced . Noise returned!!!!!car taken back "third time" car kept overnite tech did not hear noise again service manager rode with me did not hear noise was told to bring it back if noise occurs . Noise has occurred not feeling "safe"driving this car taking car back noise occurs to often!!!friends and family hears it also they say it sounds like "door" with hinges loose.

Wheel problem #90

Tl contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that water collected inside the spare tire wheel well. As a result, the aroma of mildew was present in the vehicle¿s interior. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 68,000.

Wheel problem #91

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the tire pressure monitoring light illuminated. The passenger's side rear tire had become flat. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver and passenger side rear tire valve stems and monitors needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 41,779 and the current mileage was 43,1216.

Wheel problem #92

I ran off the side of the road into a guardrail and could not stop until I was on top of the guardrail into an embankment. My entire front end was destroyed as well as most of the underneath of the car. My face hit the steering wheel causing me to lose consciousness as well as giving me a black eye, crooked teeth, cuts, broken dental appliances, and my teeth went through my lip. I strongly believe my airbags should have deployed and prevented the impact of my face to the steering wheel since I thought that is what airbags are for. My car was totaled.

Wheel problem #93

While driving, the chrome clad wheel cover that was supposed to have been machine pressed on to the aluminum 17 inch rim, shot off the rim towards incoming traffic. We were going approximately 35 miles per hour. It flew off and almost hit a car passing us. Two months later another one came off, but I was able to retrieve it before we were in traffic. This could have caused damage to another vehicle or pedestrian walking beside the car. Doing on-line research a number of additional owners of the 2009 Equinox with the chrome clad covers have had similar issues.

Wheel problem #94

For the past year I have been going to the dealer for my regular car check-ups and each time would complain that my tire pressure light would come on the kept checking the tire and found nothing wrong. They finally told me that the tires were doing that due to the weather to just ignore the warning. All of a sudden I noticed that the side wall of my tires were separating. I took it in and ask them why was this happening, I can see maybe one tire but all four. They said that I must have hit a pot hole but my tires had a lot of miles on them. In Dec 2012 they said that I had 8/32 or greater for tread depth then Jun 2013 they said that everything was okay and then oct 2013 they are saying that I have 3/32 or less tread depth. I do not doubt that I need new tires but I do believe that I have some defective tires and I can see one of them would be like this but all four. . . . .

Wheel problem #95

As soon as the speed reaches 65, the wheels shake, I had tires replaced, new drive belt replaced and it did not fix the problem. As I read some of the problem the 2005 Equinox were having it is the same thing.

Wheel problem #96

Air pressure sensor on rear driver tire indicated 28 pounds. When the mechanic turned the cap to remove it from the valve stem, the stem broke off (due to corrosion). Dealer says the wrong caps were on it it - it should have been metal caps. I bought this vehicle from this dealership but they say they have no responsibility. After getting the sensor and valve stem replaced ($86), I brought the tire back and put it back on. Checked remaining valve stems and another one broke off on the front passenger side. Another $85 and I will eventually have to replace the other two. Dealer is the only one who has checked my air pressure (during oil changes and multi-point inspections) and never mentioned I had the wrong caps on the valve stems. I have contacted general motors with my safety concern. Had I been driving when the valve stem blew out, I could've easily been injured or killed. Gm maintains there is no recall on this issue and will not pursue the issue. I not only feel this should be a recall, but I feel they owe my money back to me. This is the first gm product I've had (Jeep/Chrysler products in the past). I'm disappointed in the excuses the dealership gave me (wrong valve caps, moisture got underneath and caused corrosion) and with gm's response, since it doesn't have a recall on it, we really don't care if you could have been killed. I have already begun telling Equinox and torrent drivers to check their valve stems! shame on you gm.

Wheel problem #97

I purchased the car in April of 2012 and started experiencing issues with the vehicle within the first 10,000 miles. The car would stall and shut off while in motion either after a short idle while at a stop sign or red light, or even while parking both in drive and reverse. The car will shake aggressively while in motion and lurch forward both while stationary and in motion. The tire pressure could never stay balanced and would constantly inform me of leaking even after replacing the tire multiple times. The windshield wipers randomly shut off while in motion during storms leaving me completely blind. The dealer informed me that there was a recall for the 2013 Equinox windshield wipers but would not extend the recall to my 2012 Equinox with the same issue. The car consumes oil at a faster than normal rate and has required frequent oil changes and filter and has never displayed an engine or oil light to inform me of the issues. The car shuts off while in motion and stationary quite frequently. The car struggled to start one day and after my third attempt finally turned over but only at half power and while attempting to drive back home, the engine collapsed and quit on me. I had the car towed and upon inspection by a Chevrolet dealer and was informed that the engine had completely failed and there was metal pieces in the oil. The car is not working currently as it hasn't been for most of it's life as I continue to make payments on an overpriced piece of metal that can't safely transport my family.

Wheel problem #98

When trying to merge into traffic at a low speed I had to stop due to the car in front of me stopping. When I applied the brakes, the brakes started pulsing and I had no stopping abilities until I hit the car infront of me. Again the same situation occurred, I was merging into traffic at a low speed when the car infront of me slams their brakes and I follow my applying my brakes. Again the brakes pulsed and the car did not stop. The second time I had more than two car spaces between myself and the other car when the brakes were applied. The road conditions for both incidents were clear and no visible liquid on the road. Each time the brakes were applied when the vehicle was shifting through the gears.

Wheel problem #99

17" aluminum wheels freeze to the rear disc brake hubs, requiring special tools or a sledge hammer to remove. Defect makes it impossible to change a rear wheel on the road in case of a flat tire, possibly stranding the driver in a remote area or in dangerous weather conditions. Wheels have insufficient clearance around disc brake bearing hub. This has occurred several times, discovered when tires need to be rotated.

Wheel problem #100

The front wheels squeak and cause the vehicle to wobble when driving. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
