Seat Belt Problems of Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

The current locked-in wall-mounted shoulder safety straps are very uncomfortable and possibly dangerous for a short person. Previously we owned a 2012 Equinox, and being under 5'2" tall, I used the wall-mounted shoulder strap "slider" adjustment to comfortably adjust the seat belt height in both the driver and front passenger seats. We now own a 2018 Equinox, and it no longer has the "slider" height adjustment (wall-mounted). It only has the locked-in shoulder strap. The shoulder strap rests against the side of my neck, and feels as if it is rubbing or cutting into my neck. Now, instead of the shoulder strap height being adjustable, the passenger seat height is adjustable (the driver seat height previously was adjustable). While the additional visibility is helpful, the shoulder strap still feel as if it is rubbing or cutting into my neck. To alleviate the problem, when I am driving (using both hands, as I always do), this is not possible, so I try to wear a shirt with a collar to tuck the strap under. This is not much better. When I am a passenger, I either hold the shoulder strap with my hand, or put my forearm under the shoulder strap, but still keep the strap over my shoulder. While I may risk a broken hand or arm with these methods, it is preferable to risking a possible broken neck.

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 24 mph on an exit ramp, the vehicle inadvertently drove off the side of the ramp and crashed. The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to restrain the contact. There were no warning indicators illuminated. A semi tire bounced and hit the front of my car and cracked my grill. My hazard lights popped on, my dome lights came on, and seatbelts locked up and car filled with smoke. It took all I had to unbuckle my seatbelt and it locked up. No one was in passengers side and that seat belt locked as well. Service airbag warning light came on and stays on and still the smell of airbags in the car. Now unable to buckle up, and cant reach the pedals because my seat wont move because the seatbelt is locked. On highway, in motion about 62 mph.

The seat belts are designed such that a shorter person must wear the belt across their neck when buckled in. The adjustment to raise and lower the seatbelt from the wall of the vehicle is no longer included in the vehicle. I believe this has become a safety issue for the shorter driver (including student drivers). If an incident were to occur that required the seatbelt, I believe additional injury could result to the neck and possibly severe that otherwise wouldn't occur with properly fit seatbelts.

My 2011 chevy Equinox has had a lot of problems, I got the car with 49,000 miles about 3 years ago. I had to replace the timing chain already due to excessive oil consumption. Now my catalytic converter is bad due to oil consumption. My car now has around 130,000 miles and I seen there is a class action suit for the 2011 chevy Equinox for excessive oil consumption. It also poses a safety risk as it can cause engine failure while the cars are in motion. There are times I add a whole quart of oil and 3 days later I hear a ticking noise and my oil is completely gone. My car conks out at stop signs once in a while, it takes time to accelerate. Also my passenger side seat belt does not work it's stuck to the point where you can't use it.

I am not able to adjust the height in which my seat belt lays on my chest. I am 5�3� and usually need to adjust the seat belt height in the vehicle. However, when I leased my vehicle, I noticed there was no way to adjust this. When I am driving, I have attempted to raise the height of my seat, however, my knees become too close to the steering wheel and I am then sitting too high in the vehicle to have good vision of the road. This evening, I was sitting in the passenger seat while my husband was driving, he had to push the brakes very upribptly as deer were in our path as he was going approximately 45 mph on a rural road and the seatbelt locked and cut into my neck. This was a painful experience that I can only describe as a �rug burn. � the seatbelt left a red mark on my neck, and hours later, is still visible. While the seatbelt stopped me from going forward, it stopped me using my neck, which was painful. Had I been able to adjust the height of the seatbelt, it would not have rubbed my bare neck.

An independent mechanic serviced the vehicle, but could not repair the failure for months. The manufacturer was contacted. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

I almost got killed when power steering stopped working all of a sudden. No warning at all. I was on my way home from shopping. Good thing this happened to me and not my wife she would not have been able to control the Equinox.

Air bag light comes on. Sometimes it doesn't come on and sometimes it does. It's been doing this for close to 2 years. Passenger seat belt has been sticking often. Sometimes I can barley get it to unclick. This has been happening for about 3 years.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that the seat belt clip that mounted to the floor had separated due to faulty stitching. "tamara recall" I'm writing reguarding an accident that totaled out my vehicle but none of my air bags deployed ? I hit a deer at 75-80 mph on a hwy it hit my drivers side headlight and continued up over my hood and actually dented part of my passenger side fender I couldn't even open the door all the way! none of my air bags went off. Luckily I had my seat belt on which something in the seat belt blew when it locked me in place due to the impact of the deer hitting jumping out at me a warning popped up on my dash believe said "locked" but all happened so fast , it pushed & cracked just about everything under my hood. I had smoke coming from my vehicle, fluids on the ground no fire thankfully ! my SUV was totaled and many have questioned me about the air bags. I'm now wondering the same thing. Why in the world did none of these go off ? if I wouldn't have had my seat belt on who knows what would have happened with the air bags not going off ! I've done research I haven't seen any recalls, but I am a little confused by this!.

Nhtsa camp # 07v344000, seat belt sensor, NHTSA camp. # 07v242000 windshield mount I have a 2007 chevy Equinox, my windshield is leaking, and my passenger side air bag keeps going on and off depending on how somebody sits in the seat. I went to google and looked up the recalls for my vehicle. And those 2 recalls listed at the top are 2 of the problems im having with my Equinox. I called chevy corporate and they told me my vehicle VIN number is not part of the recall. If my vehicle is having the same problems as the one with the recall, they should expand the recall to cover the rest of the vehicles affected.

I got a recal about my airbags . When I took it in the dealer told me that it was the seatbelt tinshner was at falt and that was not covered by the recall. The dealer is pheltier chevy in tyler tex.

2014 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to airbag non-deployment and seat belt shoulder harness failure during front end collision. Gm informed the consumer the air bag performed as designed.

I hit a deer going at least 60 miles an hour. Damaged the right front of vehicle ( approx. $8,000 in damage) air bags did not depoly but seat belts would not retract and message said the air bags had deployed and there was foul odor as if they had.

I was in an accident on 12/15/2016 where I hit someone from behind. I was driving straight down the highway and didn't notice the people in front of me stopping. When I hit the brakes, it was too late and my chest went flying against the steering wheel. When my Equinox hit them, my seat belt did not lock and my chest hit the steering wheel. I had to go to the hospital because of the force of the impact. The force was so hard that the air bag did not come out. I don't know if there is an air bag inside the vehicle. I could not catch my breath and I tested out my seat belt and realized it does not lock when breaking. It is actually lose the whole time I am driving. This is not safe for me or a passage that I have in the car. Tested out the passage side as well and it is the same thing.

Takata recall. 2008 Chevrolet Equinox, 56,000 miles. My service safety belt light came on as well as abs and check engine and ! ? is this under extended warranty?.

Was involved in accident 9/8/2016. It was a total loss. Front end heavily damaged. Airbags did not work or the passenger side seatbelt. Driving straight at intersection and other party ran red light striking the left front and causing frame to crack.

Dear sir or madam, after long waiting for those issues resolve; I decided to contact professional. I paid over 40k for this vehicle and I have lot of problem. Also the air conditioner was broken and I paid 1400 dollar. Huge problem with these car please contact me as I will hired a lawyer.

The vehicle treading on the seatbelt and the seats are defective. The treading has come out of both. The rear seats are hardly used except transporting the grandkids on a occassion.

Power steering was making whining sound when turning and had a fluid leak. Water leaked into trunk and filled up area where spare tire is located, drivers side window motor broke and stopped working, one of the back seat belts does not always stay clicked, some paint chipping, and transmission went at 76,000 miles.

Passenger-side airbag sensor doesn't go on or goes on and off while in car driving or stationary. Looks like this is the same issue from the 2007 recall, but not extended to the 2008. Haven't taken it to a dealership yet but seems to be a common problem. This problem started around 80,000 miles. The airbag sensor indicator says service airbag all the time and the seatbelt indicator for the passenger side is on all the time whether the seatbelt is on or not.

The back child rear seatbelt became locked in a position around his stomach where it was unable to be released from the locked position, luckily my 4 year old son had just enough room to breathe lightly until I was able to get him help. It took us over and hour to remove him and thank god it was not wrapped around his neck. It is very scary and now worries me about any future incidents or even accidents where he will be unable to escape.

I was driving 79mph down interstate 295 when a voulcher flew into my front driver side lower car panel causing the air bag canister to deploy but not the airbag itself. The airbag light came on and the service airbag came up on my display. I contacted state patrol and they came out to see the damage but could not file a report. I do however, have the state patrol officers name and email address. I had to get my car towed and taken to a garage where an airbag specialist came out and claimed that the airbag system was messed up and it had to be replaced along with my seatbelts. I was not injured luckily but it is scary to know that my airbag did not deploy.

Airbag warning light on - took to mechanic yesterday and they found the following "b0074 & b0081 set. Diagnosed and found passenger presence module internally failed". They told me it's a 800+ repair. Called dealer priority cheverolet in chesapeake virginia and they said to check connections below seat as they sometimes come loose. As an engineer I find it hard to believe that such a vital life saving device would have such an easy single point failure to be so easy to come loose as by simple moving the seat. When you observe the switch module below the seat it is just there dangling! this needs to get rolled up as a recall.

Was driving to work and a herd of deer jumped out in front of me I hit one near the front passenger side and my seat belt locked up and a funny smell came over the inside of my car. The service air bag light came on and hasn't shut off my 4ways turned on automatically but the air bags did not deploy. I think that since this car is less than 2 years old and I purchased it to make me feel safe that a faulty airbag deployment is ridiculous and I should be able to trade this car in. I don't feel safe driving with a tight seat belt and my air bag light on. I can't believe how many people have had issues with this. The money I am spending to buy this car is outrageous as it is then for this to happen and it not work the way it is intended to I would like to be reimbursed in some way.

Large pickup truck with snow plow ran stop sign at intersection, snow plow blade hit left side/left front of car, at speed of about 45 mph. Impact forced car off the road, into a pile of frozen ice and snow. Damage was severe enough that left front door was almost sliced off the car with serious body damage to left front and left front corner. All doors were jammed shut. Neither front nor side airbags deployed. Seat belt on driver did not tighten up either. Damage also to seat frame and dashboard.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph the vehicle crashed into a deer with the front of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy however there was the smell of burning talc in the vehicle. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home and discovered that the drivers side and both rear seat belts no longer worked. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,300. The VIN was not available. Sw.

I was driving on a 2 lane road with heavy woods on each side and a deer ran out of the woods in front of me. I hit the deer with the front of my Equinox. I immediately smelled the fumes from the air bag but did not see where the air bad deployed. Onstar came on and asked if I was ok, that they were advised my air bag had deployed. The in dash sensor in my car also alerted that the air bag had been deployed. My steering wheel appeared normal, but a small gap around the air bag cover. It appears that my air bag had attempted to deploy but the bag itself did not inflate. The damage was filled on insurance and gm was notified of the incident due to the fact that my air bag did not function correctly. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership where it was purchased to have the air bag & sensors replaced. Gm did open a claim with my complaint and said that it would be 20 to 30 days for an investigation to be done.

This vehicle was involved in a rollover accident and the air bags didn't come out and the seat belt on driver side had no give. This accident resulted in a death and two serious engerecies to the front passenger and the rear passenger located behind the passenger.

The contact also stated that the front passengers side seal belt was continuously beeping. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat belt switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 71,441. Djr.

I got a warning that said service airbags. I brought my car in and they found out it was the passenger air bag. They reset the sensor and it never came back and so they said it was fine. About a week went by and the light came on and then disappeared again. I called and they said they would need it for 3 days and it could cost quite a lot of money. When I read all the reports of others who had seen this signal it seems very similar because it doesn't stay on. I have read that it could be a seat belt trigger or caused by the heat, but I am very concerned as this is certainly something that is a safety concern. My car is also under 60,000 miles and this shouldn't be a concern at this point. Please advise if there has been other issues with this. I am hearing about many myself.
