general problems of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

While replacing 3 motor mounts, engine oil pan,transmission oil pan, also cv axles, wheel bearings needed replaced. When I got my car back the power steering wasn't working. My mechanic said there was a recall for my year, make and model for the power steering assist. I haven't gotten this fixed yet due to lack of funds . I am filling this out to see if is recalled.

Power steering quits working while driving. Only driving in town since this started about a month ago. Took to mechanic was told no power from steringcolum to motor.

I was heading out to my car and tried to remote start my car and it did t work and I tried it twice and then got in my car and notice my check engine light and power steering came on after I put the car in gear and began moving and I stopped and when I went to turn it was hard to turn and had to use to hands and I did research and this a know problem and the remotes and this power steering issue should be recalled or it may hurt or kill someone.

A chip had to be replaced for the power steering to work. Also the driver visor keeps falling down and blocking my view when driving.

Gasoline goes fast, I have to fill every 4 days. Sometimes engine light comes on and goes away and sometimes runns smooth and sometimes it feels like wants to turn off.

Leaking fuel line. Many many Hhr have this.

Water leaking in passenger floor board only when rain.

2006 chevy Hhr is having electrical issues. The eps was replaced and now when I am drive the insrument panel needles move back and forth, power steering and other indicators light up and car cuts off. Had several tune-ups and the problem is happening.

Fuel line is leaking when fuel pump is running. Not the only car have cobalt that was having the same problem.

My 2006 Hhr has a defect with the door latches. I have already paid once to have it fixed, then it broke again. Now both my driver's side and passenger side door latches are not working. I feel that if I get them fixed that they will break again. I can't afford to fix them. If I was to get in an accident or an emergency happens I would not be able to get out without opening the windows and reaching for the outside door, in which I have short arms. I already have got stuck in my car already because I went inside without my key and could not roll down the window to get out. I had to call someone to let me out. This is so dangerous.

My car coolant went from 187 to 216 what cause this.

I was driving with my sister on rt 9 in lakewood NJ in stop and go traffic. We heard a loud pop that sounded like a gun shot or something that hit my roof. I drove a few blocks to try and find a spot to take a look, when I opened my inside sunroof shade I saw that my sunroof was shattered. I called the lakewood police and they took a report. I will be getting it fixed today, I have to pay $100. 00 deductible. I'm just glad we were not hurt. The inside driver's door handle broke off (plastic or other nonmetal material attached to a metal hinge)at the metal hinge. (cheap materials that fatigue easily) with no excess force or abnormal pressure being applied. I was unable to exit the vehicle without engaging the electrical system to roll down the window and operate the outside handle. In an accident, this would be a serious safety hazard if the driver needed to get out of the car quickly.

Oil cooler that is mounted on top of engine started leaking. Took to gm dealer and after research they found that the part was only made for 6 months and was discontinued due to the issue I was having. There was a by pass produced for a short period that ended up being worse than the original part. As a result there is no way to fix my car except change out the engine with a newer model. I called gm to ask about it and at the dealers suggestion to ask for help paying for the $5,999 engine. Gm flat out refused any responsibility for the defective part and refused any assistance. How can an american car company knowingly make a defective part and have millions of them on the road and not be responsible for replacing the part or making a replacement available? this issue makes the vehicle un drivable as the amount of oil and anti freeze that is leaked not only contaminates the environment it also empties the oil from the engine causing failure.

The drivers door will not open. Have to climb over the console to get in and out of the car.

I was driving in the right lane going westbound approaching a stop light when I applied my brakes it did not slow down,I pressed the brake hard an car kept going into the rear of a truck that was stopping at the light . My car was not stopping. Like it had no control. The airbags did not deploy. Im concerned that the ignition turned off when I went over some pot holes in the road. My car is one of the vehicles on the recall list for the ignition switch, I had replaced ignition switch months ago due to same problem. What are my options to get this problem resolved?.

On 3/28/14 I was driving on highway at 6:30am and my car just turned off displaying engine power reduced. Taken to dealer and they claimed it was notice and now it been 4 times this has happened. Recently on 10/11/14 I was driving home from work and stop at a red ligth when my car began to shake and on dash display message read engine power reduce which at this point my car cut off and would not start back up. . I waited about 10 min and turned it on again. . This proble has been recurrent since then and now my child safety latches when put on will not let doors close and when moved to open position the safety lock will not reposition itself to the open position. Recently on 10/07/14 my service airbags message displayed for no reason. I have contacted dealership and they dont know why this is happening but wont trade my car for another and I have contacted gm and still no one has helped me these issues. I fear for mine and my family life in this car.

I was driving south on a 4 lane rte with a center lane for turning. I was driving the posted speed limit and then I don't know what happened. One minute I was driving, the next I was crashing into a telephone pole. The car went left of the center lane and the two northbound lanes and into the telephone pole. It happened so fast. There were no witnesses that came forward. I don't recall hearing any horns blaring or brakes squealing. I had no sense of warning that I was going to crash. ( I have been in or seen crashes before and there is usually a sense of " OH no this is about to happen"). My airbags did not deploy. My head spiderwebbed the windshield. I had tiny cuts in my scalp and slivers of glass in my hair. My left shoulder hit something (maybe the steering wheel)? my left thigh had a bruise from the steering wheel. The bruise was 12" x 4 or 5 " throughout the length of the bruise. . There is a large hematoma above where the bruise had been. This hematoma is measures approx 7 " and round. It is painful and protrudes 3". My right knee was banged up and is still painful and there was bruising and a smaller hematoma about the size of a golfball. Both hematomas remain. The crash was on 3/28/2014. My neck started hurting immediately and still remains painful. The car has front end damage and some on the left and some on the right. I believe my injuries were directly caused by failure of airbag deployment.

I contacted strosnider Chevrolet (a dealer in hopewell, va) about the recent recall on my car and asked about a loaner. First they wanted to know where I got my information and then they told me that they have never heard of cars cutting off and that I did not need to worry. My car has lost power 4 times in the last 8 months and even though it did not cut off,it did not have power and was coasting for about a minute before it picked up power again and I don't feel safe in it anymore. This dealer acted like this recall is a joke and they do not want to have to deal with it. I will definitely not go to them for anything again even though I purchased my car from them back in 2006. I don't appreciate them making lite of my situation and if my car does cut off on the interstate and I am run over by the vehicle behind me, me or my family will be suing someone for this incident.

Both driver side and passenger side front inner door mechanism levers have broken making my vehicle only able to exit by rolling my window down and opening door with outside handle, the repair is almost 1000. 00 for the 2 doors with labor and I had a mechanic look at inner door and determine mechanism lever is made out of fiber glass/plastic material which with any amount of exersion will break in freezing temperatures. I live in illinois.

Can shift with out pushing brake or shift bottom, also key get stuck in on position when in park. Have not fixed it yet due to the cost of the park and labor. Have looked on line and a lot of other Hhr owners are having the same problem. Also brake fluid warring come on but fluid is full.

Drivers side door handle broke off.

Was pulling out of my garage when all my electrical shut down no power. Had to have the car towed to ricks automotive and they repaired my starter $ 427. 00. I would like to get reimbursed from gm and need to know how ge to my money back? I had trouble with my ignition switch for quite some time and not letting me remove the key twice.

My name is tammara simonds, I am launching this complaint, because even though I received a recall notice. When I called the dealership to have my vehicle repaired I explained to them that I already have an issue with my ignition (I cannot get my key out of the ignition without using the release button). What bothered me was the fact that I had to go online to see if this was a issue. What I found was that gm knew of the problem and had a solution as well as the NHTSA also new about it. I drove my Hhr to work. Parked. Went to get out and the driver side door handle felt soft and the door would not open. To get it open I had to use the outside door handle. I have read online about other Hhr owners experiencing the same failure of the door latch. While the handle remained intact, the latch is not working to open the door. Couple this with the now twice failure of the powersteering module at a whopping 875. 00 each time I have begun to regret my decison to purchase this vehicle and this is the car that I really wanted.

Steering fails when driving. The car is not steerable. Very dangerous to drive. Chevy cobalt has a recall for this problem. Hhr is the same platform,same steering components,same manufacture of steering components. January 14, 2013 the vehicle was taken to ourisman cheverolet of bowie for blower not working for heat or defrost. I was told their was a short in the blower resister. It was replaced and I paid $225. 34 then, on September 2, 2014 same problem occurred. Took back to same dealership and was told same problem. However, it was after 1 year warranty so I had to pay $181. 68 to fix. On December 10, 2014, had to bring car in again for same problem. This time it was covered under warranty. I was told there was an additional part that was needed to be fixed and it would cost $454. 43. Ourisman told me if I did not get this part the blower motor would eventually go again and stop working. I don't understsand how you can fix a part three times and not have the knowledge to replace the "motor" that makes it work. I also asked if these parts have been recalled. They said no. On that same day, I called gm to see if they could assist in having both parts repaired at no cost. They refused. So ourisman fixed the resistor. On February 3, 2015 (very cold) the system would only work on low speed. On February 13, 2015 no fan for heat or defrost. On February 16, 2015 I called gm to explain my situation. They stated since the car is a 2006 there is nothing they can do and its up to the discretion of dealership. I have not contacted the dealership yet because I do not have the money to pay and my hope is NHTSA will assist me with this ongoing problem and provide insight about the parts in question.

My driver and passenger inside door handles broke off and I have to roll down my windows to exit and if my car is involved in a emergency I would not be able to exit quickly and ive done sone checking on line and discovered its a on going problems with them.

Gear shifter pin broke & now won't lock in gear. The key cannot be removed except by removing a cap on the steering column & pressing a release button. Defective gear shifter pin. ------------------------------------- I went home & tried to take my key out but it would not release so since the car would not turn completely off the battery died. I found out on the internet that this has happened to thousands of people. I found out how to remove the plug on the steering column to press the release to take out the key. The gear shifter will not lock so it is easy for it to slip into neutral or out of park & roll away. I don't have the $500 they said it will take to fix it so I have to live with it. I always have to make sure to lock my emergency brake & have to hit the release to take my key out. This is dangerous & so wrong of gm not to recall this when so many have had this problem. This is their defect & not the customers.

Interior door handle broke, making egress from car very difficult. Handle is made of thin plastic and will not hold up to use. If emergency strikes it will be very difficult to leave the vehicle quickly. Also for other vehicle owners, situation may be deadly if handle breaks during an incident when rapid egress is critical.

Inside driver door handle, broken off, have to roll down window to open door or cross over to passanger seat to get out.

The inside door handle has broken off completely there is no way to get out of the car unless you roll down the window and they are electric? now the passenger side still has the handle but it does not work either? they are cheaply made but should last longer than 5-6 years. So after calling Chevrolet and seeing if there were any recalls or service bulletins for this issue I was told to take my car to the nearest dealership and have them check it out. So I did and they told me that it would cost 497. 00 per door because they would have to replace both inside door panels. It is not a safety hazard and there are no bulletins to fix this? what happens if I get in an accident and my windows don't go down because they are electric? this to me is a safety hazard! I will not be able to get out of my car! I call it my kidnapping car because you can get in but you can't get out unless you roll down the window and use the outside handle.

Inside front door handles are broke, one has been broke for a while, if I'm in the car and something happens it becomes a death trap. I checked online and have seen this is a common ongoing problem with Hhr's. It doesn't matter what year it is, people are complaining about it and one person traded his in because his wife got stuck in the car. This is something that gm apparently has been aware of but did nothing. I guess they are waiting for someone to die. It doesn't matter if the vehicle is moving or not it's the same problem you can't open the door.

The door handles on both the front driver and front passenger side of the car have broken. You cannot open the car door from the inside unless you lower the window. If the electrical systems failed such as in an accident, the occupants could be trapped inside the car. Even when replacing the door handles by paying for the repairs yourself, the handles just break again before too long since the same materials/parts are used. A quick google search shows 100's to 1000's of other owners of the 2006 Hhr with the same problem.

The car has had the a/c fan motor replaced at least 4 times, each time it was damaged by a water leak. The dealership replaced motor once while under warranty but stated they could not find/fix the leak. This was a lie because it is a common problem with the butyl patch, easily found in the most basic internet search. The door handles are made of the cheapest plastic, driver's side interior door handle broke off. There is water leaking into the rear driver's side floorboard with no cause yet found. The worst part of this is the Chevrolet dealership where I purchased the vehicle not completely fixing the leak problem during the warranty period, then charging me to fix it again after the warranty had expired. Now I can't even get them to return my phone calls regarding the recall repairs they are required to do.
