1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2024

Fuel line is leaking under the car. I could smell gas when I would get out of my car.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

Gas line leaking under left rear tire.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2022

Rear section of the rear fuel line started to rott out and started leaking. The sction is where there is insulation on the line, adjacent to the left rear tire. The rest of the line is good with no corrosion or rust. When the car is running and stopped a puddle forms under the car that is gasoline. I noticed it about a week ago , I smelled gas and thought the engine was the source, but later determined it was the fuel line as I could see the leak. It is by the rear plastic fuel line holder / support. The vehicle is always parked on a concrete driveway or paved street. Never on grass or dirt.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2021

Fuel line rotting. Dripping gas towards rear of car. When I did my research this is very common with the chevy cars. Like the Hhr cavaliers and cobalts. Using a cheap metal then wrapping it in a heat shield that cause moisture to stay trapped causing the lines to rot.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2020

Fuel line leak near rear tire. Found pressure line rotted inside of heat protection wrap.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2020

Fuel vapor line rusting out . From what I hear this problem is rampant amongst this model and cobalts.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

My 2006 Hhr fuel line broke at the rear wheel on the left side of the vehicle. The fuel line has a bend at this location and that is where the break occurred. Gas was spraying out when the car was running. This occurred in 2019. I have since replaces the fuel lines with nylon fuel lines.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2019

Rusted fuel lines leak gasoline and vapors are released inside cab. Car was parked in driveway. Check engine light came on was taken to tires plus.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2018

Fuel line rusting!!.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

I have had a terrible time with the power steering on my 2006 chevy Hhr. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There is no apparent cause. These changes from working to not working and back can happen at any time at any speed. Fortunately I am strong enough to wrestle with it and steer it manually so far. I received a notice from gm about it but the dealer refused to honor it. They replaced the power steering motor and charged me over $300, but that didn't do any good. Also twice a message appeared about reduced engine power and the engine had almost no power to get up hills. I was creeping along at about 10 mph on a super highway. I shut off the engine, turned it on again after a few minutes and the engine had normal power again. Also the door lock light comes on for no apparent reason when I'm driving. The dealer claims that the problems can't be diagnosed unless they see it acting up. Of course it doesn't do these things when it is in the shop. I am really disgusted.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2018

Fuel system rusted out !! fuel lines rusted causing fuel leaking filler tube rusted out fuel system failed on major highway this is a known issue and gm refuse to recall.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2018

There is a fuel line leak in the back by the rear driver's side tire leaking has all over. Rusted already. Was in town with my kids and dad and had it idled for awhile and got out and smelled has really bad. Sure enough a puddle of gas on the pavement. Drove it straight home. Everyone was scared due to the leak. Very dangerous.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Gasoline goes fast, I have to fill every 4 days. Sometimes engine light comes on and goes away and sometimes runns smooth and sometimes it feels like wants to turn off.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2017

Fuel line leak by left rear tire which also is next to the tailpipe. I have read several complaints online about this problem. The line sits in a pool of water that forms on the frame.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2017

Leaking fuel line. Many many Hhr have this.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2017

Fuel lines on drivers side next to rear wheel are rusting and leaking fuel over a exhaust pipe, when hot would surely cause a fire. From what I've read a few have caught fire.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2016

My car was parked out front of my home and on the morning of 12/28/2016 as I was leaving for work I noticed a strong odor of gasoline inside of my vehicle. When I got to work and parked my car I looked for the cause of the odor only to find that there was gas leaking from the drivers side of the vehicle in front of the rear tire by the exhaust from the gas line. I have not paid to have this problem fixed and after some research I've found out there are a few hundred other cases similar to mine. If my vehicle catches fire I will be suing gm.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

My car was taking longer to start and I noticed a strong fuel smell while driving. I stopped the car and discovered a small but rapidly expanding spot of fuel on the ground in front of the driver side rear wheel well. There was a near constant dripping of gasoline and by the next day there was a spot the size of a dinner plate on the driveway stained with gasoline. My mechanic examined the car and said that the fuel line had rusted through and that the vapor line also showed signs of serious rust. He also said that due to the design of the guard around the fuel line, rainwater would pool and keep the fuel line submerged which greatly accelerated the rusting process. Due to the amount of fuel leaking this could have very easily have turned into a fire, particularly on the fourth of July with so many people shooting fireworks. My car is still at the mechanic, he tells me the dealer told him these fuel lines are in high demand and it may be a while before they get them in. With as widespread as this problem appears to be, I suspect an investigation and recall may be in order.

19 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr. After driving 25 mph and parking the vehicle, the contact smelled fuel around the vehicle and noticed that the driver side rear wheel was leaking fuel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2016

Fuel lines are rusting to the point of needing replacing and the evap line is leaking fumes at the moment. I was told by best chevy dealership in hingham, that the cause of this rusting is because fuel lines are so close to exhaust system a leak in the exhaust has accelerated rate of rusting for the fuel lines and evap lines. The dealership quote for replacing just the lines (not exhaust repair) at $1,600. Car has around 150k miles but was told the amount of rust is beyond what it should be for a car at this age/stage. I don't know if chevy can make a better heat shield to keep fuel lines from deteriorating from heat from exhaust system or what can be done . . . But I have read that many, many other people with same car have the same issue about rusted fuel lines. I am afraid to drive car at this stage for fear if the rusted line fails then I will have gas leaking directly near a hot exhaust which could ignite the car and I have little babies that I usually have with me and it would put their lives in danger. This needs to be fixed somehow. Gm needs to admit it's a bad design flaw and come up with a fix or something. Should not be on the consumer's hands for that kind of a repair. . . Thank you.

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2016

Car stated smelling of gas inside and out for days and kept getting stronger, noticed pool of gas near drivers side rear tire, after extensive search noticed gas lines completely rusted out and small whole near exhaust system, within 2 inches of the exhaust pipe spraying gas on exhaust pipe. After internet search found a ton of the exact same complaints from other Hhr owners. Someone is going to get burned or killed by these faulty designed fuel lines.

22 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2016

Car started smelling gas inside when driving and have to open the window to get some fresh air. A clicking noise, too much noise from the front suspension when turning or driving. . L took the car for oil change and the dealer tech did not want to drive the car stating that it's safety issues. They said the lower control arms has been wear out and that the "sway bar"is shorter wearing my tires. In just this year l have change the 4 tires twice. Discount tires said they have not seen such a thing before the wearing occures in the inside part of the tires. . . The entire front suspension is collapsing. Gm need to issues a recall for these issues. . . . The dealer gave me a repair quote of almost $3000 . . . Gm need to take responsibility of all these issues and offer a credit or repurchased the car back. . . L have children that l transporter back and forth to school and to hospital. . . And need a safer car. . .

23 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact noticed that the rear of the vehicle was leaking fuel. In addition, a fuel odor entered the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the main fuel line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

24 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2016

Fuel lines are rusted out. Vehicle smells like fuel after being parked for just a short while, so I checked and sure enough the fuel/evap lines are rusted and need replacement. After a little research I see that not only is this is a widespread problem on these vehicles, but the replacement parts are very hard to come by as well. This is hazardous and should be recalled.

25 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2016

While on vacation, the car had not been started in 2 weeks. The weather had turned from warm and rainy to very cold. After getting back and starting the car, noticed a heavy fuel smell and thought the exhaust was burning extra rich due to the cold temperature. Getting out of the car to walk around to inspect the exhaust noticed a steady drip forming a circle on the asphalt just in front of the rear passenger tire on the driver's side. The location of the leak seems to be where the fuel line bends up and into the body channel. The car was taken to a dealer repair shop the next morning where it has been waiting on parts to replace the rusted steel fuel lines because the car is not safe to drive. Was advised the heat shield to protect the fuel line from the nearby exhaust system retains moisture and leads to the lines rusting and perforating. I did not take pictures, but I don't believe this an isolated issue with this vehicle's fuel lines after checking online for similar complaints.

26 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2015

Noted strong smell of gasoline near drivers side rear door after exiting vehicle after driving, but not after vehicle sat and did not run. Dealer service said gasoline lines had corroded and need to be replaced. Replacement lines not on hand and over $1,000 to fix. Definite fire hazard. Car currently not being used. Rydell Chevrolet (waterloo IA) service invoice #438253 - gm case #8-1717132969 mileage 136391.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

The steering wants to lock up and don't return to the straight position when turning on to a street as if it is sticking clicking and popping noise also in the steering column. Also both fuel lines over the left rear wheel rusted out and leaked gas all over the garage floor. Costing two hundred and fifty dollars.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2015

Fuel line has rusted out in under 10 years of use. Gas leaking out that can cause an explosion if ignited. Entire fuel line is subject to rust and condensation problems. It totally needs to be replaced.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

On 11-01-2015, while driving the car, a fuel line began to spray gasoline. The leak appeared toward the rear tire on the driver's side. The leak was noticed because the fuel caught fire. The fuel must have been sprayed onto a hot part. The on-fire fuel landed on the pavement where it continued to burn until manually extinguished with a fire extinguisher. Turning off the engine stopped the spraying, but fuel continued to drip from the area for some time. The repairing mechanic told me that the line was rusted and had a hole. He said that part of the line sits in a pocket where it stays wet and dirt/salt accumulate. He found a fuel vapor line also was heavily rusted. The lines were replaced at a cost of 588. 31. I'm reporting this now because of the recent announcement of an investigation of some model years for this problem. My year was not on the list, but the lines rusted. Thank you for taking time to read this report. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like additional details or if I may clarify any item.

30 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

Gas lines leaking.

31 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

I took my car to get the ignition recall repaired picked it up with a very serious fuel line leak above drivers side rear wheel, that was not leaking when I took it in like that and was told it was a common problem with this make and model. I am very angry and upset to find this to be common in an 8 year old vehicle, that I now have no transportation because its too dangerous to drive.

32 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2014

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, there was a sudden smell of gasoline without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a fuel line leak that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was approximately 113,277.

33 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

Drove 1 mile. Turned engine off for 15 min. When restarted car it started shaking, warning message on dash read engine power reduced. Unable to drive more than 30 mph, with car still shaking drove 1 mile to my local mechanic, when mechanic restarted car and conducted dx test and reset code the problem resolved, no further incidents after miles of test driving. Hesitant to drive car any long distance for fear it may happen again and curious if other Hhr drivers have had this problem or if there was a silent recall. . Would like advice as to how to correct this issue, prevent a reoccurrence without expensive dealer costs and feel safe driving this vehicle. Please advise. Thank you.

34 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2014

Fuel leak in front of drivers side rear wheel. This is completely unacceptable in an 8 year old vehicle. The fuel line corroded and leaked heavily, cost me $254. 22 to replace this faulty gas line. I am obviously not the only person this has happened to. I have also had all the other typical problems such as the key will not release from ignition, bad rotors, loose front end bushings and excessive front end vibration over typical street cracks. Broken drivers side interior door handle, cracked windshield. . . . . .

35 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2013

I was traveling down the highway when the dash panel warning lights all started flashing on and off. When it did this the power steering went out and when I tried to stop the engine revved up and the power brakes didn't feel right. It felt like the vehicle had the old style manual brakes. It has done this several times and when I researched it online I noticed there were several other Hhr owners experiencing the same problem. The problem originally started with the traction control light to come on randomly and I would have to disconnect the battery to reset the computer.
