general problems of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

The power steering went out making it unable to control the vehicle my 18 year old son was driving and could not steer or control the vehicle causing him to wreck and dented the car up and busted the oil pan locking the motor up just by luck he was not injured we had to have it towed home and it has sat here cause I can't afford a new motor I am very upset with this whole ordeal I've been out a lot of money and have no vehicle now plus my son was very traumatized over the whole matter I truly loved this car now it's just wasting away and I'm out a lot of moneynot to mention had problems with the windows rolling up and down and the stereo just quit working and the batteries I put in it kept going dead I'm truly upset over this ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

Leaking of water from wiper crowl to fan motor of heater and has burnt resister to heater blower motor. Leak of water was quite a bit on floor board. Afraid it will cause electrical malfunction. Leak of water has happened during vehicle was parked or in motion.

My muffler system always seems to be a problem. I've replaced the rear once, front once & the middle.

" takata recall " my drivers side driver door ( on my 2007 chevy Hhr )does not open from the inside or the outside. I locked it came back to open it, it would unlock but not open. I now have to crawl over the passenger side. I have researched and this is a very common problem in these vehicles.

Everytime it rains there is standing water on the passenger floorboard. All windows are up and no leakage of windshield. Also put plastic over windshield and was the same inside.

Power sterring is going out just like it did in my colbolt. Both are 2007. Wiper power drive went out replaced that on our own. When did the ignition switch, the dealership refused to reset the remote controls, said recall was for switch only.

While driving my power steering failed I currently do not have power steering still. The back latch will not open as well. I cannot access the trunk where my battery is because the latch will not open.

On 3 different occasions it has rained while my car sat overnight and water has seeped in the passenger side compartment from behind the glove box , I have had this addressed 3 times and repaired 3 times and found out that it is a small flap that covers a hole on the firewall that fails or falls off making it so that water enters the vehicle. This is not a isolated incident other Hhr owners say they have the same problem.

After putting the gear shift in park, the key gets stuck in the ignition. This happened to me four times in one day. Had to finally pop a piece off under the steering wheel and get down on the ground and stick my finger up in there and find the end piece of a white plastic cylinder and push it to release my key.

Second time this has happened within a week. Both times at a stop . First time stop sign, second time stop light. As soon as I reached the stop light I loose power steering. Each time I turned on my hazard lights, put the vehicle in park and restarted it. The power steering returns.

Inside door handle broken cant open door, electric mirror switch fell into door, back indoor panel falling off, leak through passenger door behind front passenger. These are ongoing issues with other Hhr owners and need to be addressed. The door latch is made of very cheap plastic. You can verify with all youtube videos.

Ignition switch was replaced under recall in Nov 2014. On date of failure it was not possible to turn the key, but it could be removed and reinserted. Because the ignition key couldn't be turned, the steering wheel was locked and the transmission was locked in park. Vehicle had to be towed to chev dealer that advises they will replace it under warranty.

Door handel is broken for the second time on the drivers side. Have to roll my window down and open handel from outside. This is not good, if engine dies so will I. Could not open door.

I have been hearing some clunking sounds but not sure where they are coming from. The right turn signal does not shut off by itself. Break pedal feels very soft.

When the passenger attempted to exit the vehicle the interior door handle broke leaving the door inoperable from the inside. Risk of being trapped in the car in the event of an emergency. I will be contacting gm to report also.

I got a oil change an then went home parked my car an everything was fine at 3:25pm I went to my car and got in I put the key in the ignition an it wouldnt start at all I then tried to take the key out an it would come out at all I then knew somthing was wrong.

I have been calling the Chevrolet dealership in an attempt to schedule my recalls since July 2014. I was initially told the parts would be ordered and asked if there was anything else I could schedule as they do not like to schedule recalls due to it takes away money from service. I scheduled a repair and heard nothing else. I have been calling for months and leaving messages with no return calls, or they would tell me they were going to check on this and call me back never to be heard from again. I finally had to get ugly with them and finally they have scheduled some of the recalls to be fixed next week. Seems like this should be grounds for a lawsuit as the safety of my family was so easily passed over during all these months.

I had my oil changed before going on vacation. On my way home my car was burning oil . No engine light came on . The engine temp did not move or go to hot. My engine blow up. I understand a service bulliten was issued. Something is wrong with the computer. If is had happened in a tunnel or on a bridge ,this was going to be a bigger problem.

Power steering goes out while driving. This is a recall item on the 2008 model year, needs to be a recall on 07-08 years also. Inside door handles brake, making it impossible to get out of the call without rolling down the windows. Both are broken on my car. Been to many chevy Hhr forums and this is a common problem. If you lose power you can not get out of the car.

Cheap plastic used to make the interior door handle just broke as a I was trying to exit my vehicle. There was no impact or incident of any sort, just trying to get out of my car. I am pregnant and god forbid something happens and there is an incident where I cannot escape my vehicle because the door won't open. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed post haste.

The gear goes easily without pressing button from reverse to neutral or drive. And the rear view mirror light won't shut off by pressing button. It worked fine before I took it for the recall of the faulty igition switch.

I was driving home from work and at a red light I was turning right once it had turned green but my steering wheel had gotten really rough to turn. It continued to do this at every complete stop. It made it very unsafe to drive and turn . I have searched the web and it has been happening to many models of the same vehicle however my year of car is not placed on the recall,.

Passenger door handle broke , my car has power windows and if I were in a car accident and car lost power passenger could be trapped in car. I also drive a 2008 Hhr at work and the power steering went out and the driver side door handle also broke. I have received a safety recall notice for the ignition on my 2007 Hhr but I think the door handles are a big issue.

In September 2013 when I went to open my door to get out of my car the door handle snapped. I was unable to open the door unless I turned the car back on, rolled the window down, reach outside, and open the door using the exterior door handle. This is on the driver's side. I had it replaced (approximately $195. 00). On July 25th, 2015, I went to get out of my car and the same thing happened. The door handle broke. This poses a major safety and life threatening issue. If someone was in an accident and the car caught fire you'd die before you could get out of the car. This needs to be fixed by Chevrolet at no cost to the owner. I've been driving for 35 years and have owned piece of crap cars and never had a door handle break once, let alone twice. I spoke to chevy customer service and they said it was unfortunate but I would have to pay for the repairs myself. Really?? please make this a recall issue. Thank you for your time.

Driving on freeway the power steering went out on me almost crashed, also the exhaust just started making loud noise as well.

The interior door handles break easily they are made of plastic the repair for this is over 400. 00 as the whole interior door must be replaced. This causes an issue as the only way to open the door from the inside it to roll the window down. If there is no power you cannot open the window hence you are trapped. I have mailed letters to the company requesting a recall. With no success. This is dangerous and happens on most Hhrs I have see. I ask every owner I see and its a common flaw.

Passenger side door handle broke when my wife was trying to get out of the car. The door cannot be opened from the inside. In the case of an emergency, it would be very dangerous to be trapped in the car due to the door handle.

I was unable to open the door from the interior of the vehicle (driver's door) so I had to replace the whole interior of the door (it was a small plastic piece that broke), at a cost was $350. 00. Now, a couple of years later the same issue has occurred. I cannot afford to fix this at this time and this is the only vehicle in our home. I have been driving with a broken door for the last 3 months! it is a safety issue - in the event of an accident the driver is unable to exit the car!! and when the windows freeze I am totally trapped in the vehicle! I also feel that I should not have to replace the door's interior each time the weather is cold and this cheap plastic piece breaks! I have also had similar issues with the other doors, but my husband was able to repair them. Somehow the handle and the mechanism that opens the door (inside the interior of the door) come apart and have to be re-attached. I cannot be the only Hhr owner that has experienced this costly and dangerous problem!.

This happened when I first bought the car, we could not get the key out of ignition and it would not stay park. So I called dealer and got nowhere, I even made a complaint on here I believe stating someone is going to get hurt. Still to this day I can put the car in and out of gear without having to apply the brake!!! gm has known about this for a long time and there should be a recall. My car didnt have a warranty when I purchased it so they are no help. So I was able to take the shifter console apart and see what was happening, I got my key out and put it together and it did it again and again and again. We have just learned how to manipulate the car so we can drive it.

I put my car in park and could not pull my key out of the ignition. I turned the car on and off and shifted gears attempting to release the key. This did not work. It progressively had gotten worse over a few days intermittently I was able to release the key until the final day. I read others complaints and used the release under the steering column as suggested and it worked, I was able to release the key. Now I guess I have to take it to the dealer to be fixed. This should be covered under warranty or recalled since so many people are having the same issues.
