Vehicle intermittently loses power steering at various speeds, from low to highway speeds. Making the vehicle very hard to steer especially in turns and corners, and extremely dangerous. There is an existing recall (14v15300) for this exact issue, but when calling the gm dealership and the gm customer service line I was told that my vehicles VIN was not affected by the recall. How, if I am having the exact same problem, is it not considered a safety issue for me? but they were more than happy to schedule me an appointment to fix the known issue, at my expense of course. My vehicle only has 61,000 miles, so this is not a normal wear and tear issue. Especially when I find an article by rueters in which the vice president of gm's global vehicle safety says with these safety recalls and lifetime warranties, we are going after every car that might have this problem, and we are going to make it right," said jeff boyer, vice president of gm global vehicle safety. "we have recalled some of these vehicles before for the same issue and offered extended warranties on others, but we did not do enough. " very frustrating that a VIN is what determines mine and my family's safety! gm needs to stand behind all their vehicles with this problem, not just a select group. . .

Sudden lose of power steering with power steering light coming on and engine stopping. Luckily we were exiting a shopping area and was on a downhill grade and was able to coast to the side without incident (except the irritated traffic behind me). We were able to restart the car with no difficulty but the power steering light immediately came on and indeed there was no power steering. Went to a local auto parts place who said the fuse looked good, but we changed it anyway, hoping this would fix the problem, but no such luck. I live in the city and work in a metropolitan area, this is my only mode of transportation and at this point my biceps and shoulders are getting pretty sore. Very difficult to pull in and out of my driveway. Looking back, I see how this could have been disasterous. What if my 16 year old had been behind the wheel? hope it doesn't take long to get repaired.
Lost power steering very hard to turn steering wheel.

Driving down road coming to stop light. Chime went off & power steering was indicated on my information system. My car lost all power steering- was very difficult to steer. Glad I was not in the middle of a curve or turn when that happened.
After making a turn the car beeped, "power steering" showed on the display, and I lost power steering. Restarting the car causes power steering to resume functioning but it will cut out again within a minute.
Driving on interstate doing 65 mph, power steering indicator went off and lost my power steering. Since the first time, it continues to do the same thing, sometimes 1-2/day sometimes too many times to count in one trip. I have to turn the car off and restart for the power steering to work again.
On 1/13/2012 while on a road trip, I lost the power steering to my Hhr and the dic displayed "power steering". I immediately pulled the car off the road, turned it off, and looked under the hood to see if I could find any problems with the belts. Nothing was found and I restarted the engine and the problem was gone. Two weeks later, the problem has returned. Turning off the engine and restarting it will resolve the problem for a short time, then once driving, the power steering goes out again. The power steering motor in the Hhr is the same model noted in the recall for the 2010 chevy cobolt noted in NHTSA action number: pe10005. There are many complaints of this same issue all over the internet. While I intend to have the problem repaired, it is imperative that investigation for this particular issue is considered as the colbolt and Hhr share the same frame and are almost identical in schematic makeup.
