1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

When I first bought the car was not able to test on hwy condition but it came with extended bumper to bumper warranty the first time got on freeway shake horrible while braking. Two months past had rotors turned new brakes put on by good year shop first time on freeway still shakes horrible. With ne rotors and pads will still shake this has been fully inspected twice and no problems. It just seems to me that are to many complaints about this issue not to have a TSB or recall its not fair to the consumer and its seems dangerous to have a shaking car while slowing down at 50 mph 40 mph. Current miles 50k.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

My air bag service indicator light turns on intermittently. At least 5 times in the past year, no accidents, no problem seen with air bags by service dept at dealer. ???? . The safety lock on the drivers side controls for all passenger windows does not lock the window operation. Braking system problem in the past 6 months. Ive returned to the mechanic 4 times had my brake pads changed, rotors turned, rotors resurfaced , only to h Ave the same problem. . . . . Steering wheel shuddering bad when applying the brake. The rotors overheat and warp, but I will drive only 2 blocks and it happens. Dont think that is enough to overheat the rotors.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/23/2013

I have had two issues with this car and it has made me feel unsafe when driving it. The first involves the brakes. When braking after driving at 45mph or more, the steering wheel begins shaking. I was told the brake pads needed to be changed. I did and the problem still continued. Last month, the power steering light came on the dashboard. For a couple of days, it went away but soon the steering wheel became too hard to turn. Took it to mechanic who changed the power steering module as indicated by the diagnostics test. Once the change was done, the service esc light came on and the car has been crazy ever since. I have yet to resolve the issue as nobody knows what is wrong with my car. It has been almost a month already. I am unhappy with this car and would not recommend to anybody. After looking it up, I see that many have this same issue. It is very unsafe since this can happen at any moment while driving!.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

For the third time since purchasing this vehicle, I have had to have the brake rotors turned due to warping. Had the pads replaced with lifetime pads last year. The wobble caused by this warping causes danger to driver, passengers, and others due to difficulty in controlling the vehicle.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 01/21/2011

Applied brakes at various speeds and the brakes pulsated and steering wobbles. Replaced the brake pads and turned the rotors and about a month later that same thing happens. This has been going on since 2011 and is still the same problem today even after putting on new rotors and brake pads. . I only have about 38,000 miles on the car now.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 12/30/2010

At speed on steep downhill when applying brakes there is a violent shaking of the wheel. The vehicle was serviced and rotors were turned and new brake pads installed also a repair was made to a steering component. Less than 5,000 miles later the same issue has returned.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 04/30/2010

Brake rotors warped and the car would shake with such a severe force controlling the car was very hard. After the dealer replaced four sets, before the car had 50,000 miles on it, the dealer told me that the brake pads were worn out and that would cause this to happen again. Just before the last rotors were, replaced the electric power steering would cease working and effectively hinder our ability to steer the car. The electric power steering is still a problem daily at different times. I am going to check into the repair process soon. I feel that this problem is caused by the rotors warping and shaking the front end equipment of the Hhr. In closing, I replaced the pads and they were not worn out. I kept them for future reference.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

At 18,000 mile my 2009 Chevrolet Hhr started shaking as the brakes were applied while going down a 5% mountain grade. Within a short distance after leveling off the braking returned to normal. This occurred several more times and at 24,000 mile the vehicle was taken to the dealership to have the brakes checked. The diagnosis was that the rotors had over heated and warped. At 44,000 mile the vehicle started shaking again as the brakes were applied while going down a 5% mountain grade. Brake pads do wear out. Rotors do need to be turned. Violent shaking from rotors warping because of overheating is not normal. It is an indication that the braking system may be undersized for this vehicle or that inferior parts are being used. The brakes have not been applied excessively. The vehicle is not overloaded. The vehicle has not been subject to sudden braking. The high mileage on the vehicle is from freeway driving.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 08/19/2009

I puchased a 2008 Chevrolet Hhr in 2009 with 40,000 miles on it. I noticed braking/shaking problem. Dealer fixed it the day after I bought it. Under a 500 miles later, braking/shaking starts again. Different dealer turns rotors two more times. Pads are wearing evenly, so the dealer machanic advised me to purchase after-market rotors as the oem do not appear to resist warping very well. When the dealer's mechanic recommends putting on a non-dealer part, there has got to be something wrong with the engineering of the car or the integrity of the metal in the rotors. There are many complaints on people turning and re-turning these rotors all over the web, ultimately leading them to replace with non-gm parts.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 08/11/2009

My Hhr (which I love) has had vibrating brakes for quite some time. From info found on forums dedicated to the Hhr and here, I determined that gm or the chevy dealer wasn't going to satisfy the need for better quality rotors. The oem rotors are junk and should be banned from being installed onto a motor vehicle. Instead of getting the regrind as specified by gm, I chose to get my own brakes upgraded to a canadian made rotor set and new pads. Parts and labor were $282. 19 total. I will be sending the bill to Chevrolet, but I doubt that they will reimburse me. . . Lol.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/14/2009

While driving freeway speed applied brakes and started to get a violent vibration in the steer wheel where I almost lost control. Took the vehicle to the dealer and had the brakes check. The pads were replaced and the rotors turned. The dealer stated they are getting a lot of Hhr's coming in with the same problem and there should be a recall on the braking problem. I have about 20,000 mile since and the vibrations are starting to return even at lower speeds of 40 mph. I feel there should be a recall on the braking system or looked in to before a fatal accident happens.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 02/20/2009

The brakes started shuttering after 20000 miles, the dealer found the brake rotors were warped and turned the rotors. At 55000 miles the trouble has returned and since the car is out of the 3 yrs 36000 mile warranty will not fix. The brakes pulsate badly at this point and 2 service managers claim is the result of the rotors being too light for the weight of the car and it is happening to many chevy Hhr owners. The 2nd problem is the electronic steering. The steering shakes when the warped brakes are applied due to the plastic gears wearing and when you are driving over a rough surface. Again the dealer nor gm will make repairs due to car out of 3 yr 36000 warranty. Again the service managers has admitted this problem is happening to many owners. Both problems can lead to a loss of control and the rotors could cause the brake pads to deteriorate and prevent proper braking leading to loss of control and accidents.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 02/07/2009

2006 chevy Hhr. At 30,000 the front end shakes while braking. Replaced rotors and brake pads with new from national auto parts retailer. Shaking still occurs. Dangerous, affects steering and ability to stop. Rotors checked for trueness and they are perfect with no warpage. Dealership is no help. This is worse at speeds above 40 mph, cold or hot brakes.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 12/17/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shake and the brake pedal would pulsate during braking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced both front rotors and the brake pads. The failure recurred and the vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000. Updated 08/13/12.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

My mother experienced shaking and pulling to the side when applying the brakes. I told her to take it to chevy for repairs. They put new rotors and brake pads on the car at my expense. I am a mechanic and it is not normal for the friction pad to be missing on the brakes, that is a part failure not wear and tear. I have the parts taken off my car in September when the repair occurred, that proves my statement. Two months later this same problem is occurring again. I contacted chevy and they said it was normal wear and tear. I feel the new rotors are warped. Also I have complained to chevy several times because when the car is first started the brakes are hard. If a small child walks out there could be a fatality due to this failure. I am in the military and live on post with many young children and the sidewalk goes by my house. I have seen several complaints online about the brakes being hard upon starting the vehicle made by other owners of the chevy Hhr's.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

I have a 2008 chevy Hhr. Four months after receiving the vehicle, I noticed that the brakes were squealing excessively. Additionally, it was pulling to the right when stopping. I took it into val-mark Chevrolet, new braunfels, texas. I was told that they could really find anything wrong other than the front pads were wearing unevenly. They were replaced. In December of 08, I took my car to champion Chevrolet, corpus christi, texas complaining of the same problem. They advised the back rotors were warped and needed to be resurfaced. That was done. I have just taken my car back in to val-mark. Now the front rotors are warped and need to be resurfaced. Mr. Jim robinson of val-mark says that I will need to pay for the resurfacing. It is my contention that this is an ongoing problem and should be covered. Additionally, I feel resurfacing in only putting a bandaid on the problem. The dealership has now changed positions and states that the front pad were not replaced for uneven ware, but only as a goodwill gesture.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/21/2008

I have a 2008 chevy Hhr ss with 13000 miles on it. I have had it in the shop three times for brakes not working. The problems are that the pads coming delaminated and the turbo pulling the vacuum from the brakes. After checking on various web sites like edmonds, I have found that this is common problem.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 04/27/2006

I bought my Hhr in April 1006. The car had approximately 5,000 miles when I purchased the vehicle. That fall, in September 2006, the brakes began to shudder every time I applied them. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he said the rotors needed to be ground and turned. He did this and the vehicle was fine until the next summer (2007) when it began to shudder again. I took the vehicle in and had the brakes checked. This time I had to have both the pads and the rotors replaced. In fall 2008, he vehicle began to shudder again. I took the car in and the rotors one again needed to be ground and turned and one shock was leaking. I stopped driving the car every day and alternately drove my pickup and the brakes lasted beyond the one year mark. However, in 2010, the brakes began to shudder again and I had to take the car in and have the rotors ground and turned again. It is now March 2012 and he brakes are bad again. I do not drive the car in the summer because the warm weather seems to make the problem worse. Also, because of the brake issue, I have had to put two new sets of tires on the vehicle due to abnormal wear. I would like to add that I do not speed and do not brake quickly or ride the brakes.
