I parked my car and went to open the door, the door handle broke off in my hand. Beacause I was so shocked by this happening it took me a few minutes to realize I could roll down the window and open the door from the outside. If this happened to someone during/after an accident it could have serious consequences.
Unable to remove the key from the igition. One hour later the car is still running and key is stuck. Disconnected the battery. Its 7pm will have it toaded to dealership in am.
I was at walmart my key would not turn at all. I called a chevy dealership they said that it was a recall but not on 2010 just 2009. I had the ignition switch replaced at my cost. Today January 31 my key will not come out of the ignition switch which I'm for sure is defective parts on gms account this is a problem that many owners of complained on all over google.
The inside drivers door handle breaks off and cannot be replaced per chevy and gm without installing an entire front inside door panel. You cannot exit the car without lowering the window and reaching outside to open the door. With power windows you cannot lower the window if there are electrical problems. I have had to resort to climbing over the console and opening the passenger door and exiting the car that way when the battery died. In an accident, there is a good possibility you could not exit the car that way if severely injured or on fire. I am not the only one that is having this problem. What can be done to correct this problem??.
The interior door handle on the front passenger door has been making a "click" noise and difficult to open. Today a passenger tried to get out and the handle refused to open. Door was able to open from outside. A door that does not properly open could pose a safety hazard should someone be trapped in the vehicle.
The Hhr won't start. Came out from work and the key won't turn in the ignition and the steering wheel is locked. Everything is locked up. . . . . . . I can't get the car to start.
My 2010 Hhr has experienced an ignition issue as well. I cannot get the key to turn back to the off position. I got home from work at midnight, put the car in park and when I tried to shut the car off it would not turn back. The only option I had was to pull the ecm fuse and disconnect the battery (or let it run out of gas). The gear shifter will allow me to shift between all gears but it won't turn off. All the electrical stay on, I have only owned this car for 3 months.
Ignition problems after starting and cutting off the car several times December 4, 2011, I stopped by the grocery store, reached up to cut the ignition off and the key would only move about 1/4" forward, not causing the car try to crank, as it normally would, and not turning backwards, as if cutting the car off, at all. I tried going the the gears, working the key in each gear, cutting the wheels, again working the key as I turned the wheel, all of which to no avail. As it happened on a Sunday, there were no dealerships or shops open in the area, I had to let my car sit and run for several hours until I could get a mechanic friend over to look at the car. He was unable to get the ignition to cut off or to get the key to move at all, so he took the housing off and found a wiring harness that could be unplugged to cut the ignition off therefore enabling the car to cut off. We also discovered that this can be used to return the car to running in an emergency, if you plug it back in and turn the key slightly as if starting the car, as this is the only direction the key will turn.
It began with my key getting stuck in the ignition, would have to try to place in park multiple times to release the key. Found the panel in the steering column and the release button to remove key. Now the gear shift button is stuck in the pressed position, making the car vulnerable to coming out of gear. This is extremely unsafe and costly to fix. From listening to service representative at a former dealer, this is a common problem with Hhr and cobalts. Additional personal research has indicated this is a common and known issue with the manufacturer. This defect is unsafe and should be recalled and fixed by the manufacturer on their dime, not mine. In addition, the rotors knock and have had to be replaced. I had one replaced under warranty, they would not replace both front rotors. Now the opposite is knocking and is no longer under warranty. This is also a very common problem with the cars and not something that should have to be replaced on any car with less than 50,000 miles. Gm needs to own up to their mistakes and make the necessary recalls.
My 2010 chevy Hhr has experienced an ignition issue. The key, when the car is set to park, will not disengage. It remains on, with the only option being to let the car run out of gas/the battery to drain. The key will turn (as if to start the car), and the gear can be shifted from park to reverse, neutral, etc. , but will not turn off. All systems stay on, potentially burning out electrical components or causing permanent engine damage. The only way to safely address the immediate issue is to disengage the fuses under the steering wheel, which many consumers may be unable to do.
My gear shifter is malfunctioning. It is stuck in park. I do not have reliable transportation and would like this repair to be on the recall list with chevy being that there are a multitude of complaints about the gear shifter.
This is the second time in two years and 7 months that the door handle (inside driverside front) has broken. The door handle is made of some type plastic. This is not only aexpensive to replace at the dealer, it is also a safety hazzard in getting out of the vehicle if there were an accident.
I put my car in park and when I went to take the key out of the ignition it would not come out. I realized that the key would not come out because the gear shifter piece was pushed all the way in, it was broke. This meant that my car was left on and the battery was drained because I could not turn my car off. Now my car will not start at all the battery is charged but the car will not turnover. I have looked online and have found that there are many complaints concerning the same problem with this vehicle. I am told by the dealership that I have to pay $710 to have this problem fixed. Can you please look into this because this seems to be a big problem.
After returning home from running errands, I found I could not turn the car off and remove the key from the ignition. Even pushing the gear release button, did not release the key or allow me to turn the vehicle off. The battery & the fuel pump relay had to be disconnected in order to turn the vehicle off. Luckily I was in my driveway and not on the road with my small children. The ignition cylinder had to be replaced. Chevy towed my vehicle to a local dealer "free of charge" however because it happened on a weekend was unable to do anything or find out any informatin to help me out. It wasn't until Monday that a manager was available at the dealership who was willing to help me out with paying for this, due to it being out of the bumper to bumper warranty. Thank you to the dealership, however am unimpressed with chevy for not recognizing an unsafe design flaw (not fluke, flaw).
Unknown type of fumes entering drivers compartment, appears to be at start up and while driving with the fan turned on. Need to open both front windows an inch or two when fan is running.
The vehicle will not shut off when running, key is stuck in the ignition, there is no way to shut the vehicle off. Cannot remove key, vehicle will drive, reverse and park, will not allow vehicle to be shut off. Internet searches shows this to be a common problem with both the Chevrolet cobalt and Hhr, however no recalls have been issued.
Going 35 to 45 mph in a straight line on a cold night with the heater on. A message showing "power steering" on the driver information center. With evey restart the power steering would work for a time and then shut down again after a short time. Dealer diagnosed as a failed electric power steering assist motor. We paid $335. 38 to replace this componant. This vehicle has the same frame, power train, and other major componants as the Chevrolet cobalt and pontiac g5 with the body being the main difference in these vehicles. Chevrolet cobalt and pontiac g5 recall information: make: Chevrolet model: cobalt model year: 2009 manufacturer: general motors corp. Mfr's report date: Mar 01, 2010 NHTSA campaign id number: 10v073000 NHTSA action number: pe10005 component: steering:electric power assist system.
Sunroof frame broken at hinge point of windscreen. Apparently this is a commonly occurring problem. One of many complaints.
The key is stuck in the "on" position and there is no way to shut the vehicle off unless you pull the fuel pump fuse or disconnect the battery.
I went to turn of my car after taking my wife to work, and the ignition would not turn off. I had to sit in my car for 5 hrs at the repair shop till they opened. This repair cost me $452. 00 was told that the ignition was bad and the housing that the tumlers set in was bad. The traction light comes on and after about 2 min will go off. Tire monitor for tire pressure comes on and goes off now it is off for the left rear tire.
Visiting my daughter. Started to go home. The head lamps would not come on. After 10 or 15 minutes of turning switches, turning motor off and on, nothing worked. So here am I stuck miles away from home and the head lights wont come on. In furstration I slapped the left driver side head light,it came on. So I walked to the other side and gave it a slap, and it came on. We drove the thirty miles home worrying if they would go out again. Got home ok. Now we have to hit both headlights to get them on. The warranty is out and do you know you have to remove the whole front bumper assembly to even get to the head lights. Why would gm allow such design is be on reason. Good luck Hhr owners my wife has already experinced the lock ignition syndrome, when the key wont come out. Why doesnt the NHTSA help us Hhr owners.
The door sensors do not work properly. The sensors to not indicate that the door is not fully closed. The door must be open by at least three inches before the sensor will indicate "door ajar. " so, if the door is closed lightly but not all the way you could end up driving down the highway and have your door come swinging open with no warning. It was discovered by a chevy service department that the reason for this is because of the sensor placement in the crease of the door. If the sensor was placed in the lock then the problem would be fixed. However, the design of the sensor does not allow for it to be moved. This is not a one time problem this is an ongoing issue.
This is a complaint against the Chevrolet Hhr which seems to be prone to not turning off when the key is in the ignition. No matter how hard I tried or what I tried I could not turn the key to shut the car off. My neighbor had to turn the car off by diconnecting something under the hood. The car had to be towed to the dealer. During my research on the internet there seems to be a lot of people having the same problem. Some of them even state that the button on the gear shift that you have to push in to change gears sticks.
I went to get out of my car and the door handle on drivers side snapped off. Until I can get this fixed I believe this is a safety issue such as what if my car caught on fire and I was not able to open my door and many other such things could happen. I have checked and found that this is an ongoing problem with this model of car and chevy has not done any recalls and I was told by a chevy service department that I would have to replace the entire door panel to correct the problem, which is very costly, $441 for parts and labor.

2006 chevy Hhr :: problem :: power steering message on dash and hard to steer, abs light on, transmission making car buck while driving, and speedometer is bouncing. This is the second time it has happened, last time dealer found only "communication codes" and did not fix anything so nothing was covered by the extended warranty. That was 9 months ago at 50140 miles.
Driver side inside door handle broke off, wife stuck in car until I opened it from the outside, handle is cheap flimsy plastic, broke at hinge. Dealer wants $500. 00 for entire door panel replacement. Safety issue if this happens again during accident, especially since we have electric windows, what if there is a fire and the battery is damaged. The center console is tall, it's a small car, it would be very difficult for most people to climb over it. You would be trapped inside. Of all things, the door handle should be solid metal, imagine if you went to open an emergency exit in a building and cheap plastic broke off in your hand! this would not be allowed in buildings, why is it tolerated in cars? there are many identical incidences on the internet. . The 2010 chevy Hhr key became stuck in the ignition while the SUV was running. We were unable to remove the key at all. It was very scary for us. The SUV was turned on at 6:00 a. M. We were forced to leave it running until 8:30 a. M. When the dealer ship opened. I had stopped to put gas in the vehicle when I realized that it would not come out. After searching the web I found out that many other Hhr owners are having the same thing happen to them.
When I went to get out of my 2006 Hhr, the front interior door handle broke off. Internal parts made out of plastic. If involved in an accident you would not be able to get out of the vehicle, except to crawl across the console. This is a common known problem with this year and chevy is aware and not taking any responsibility of this faulty problem and dangerous if you were in wreck and could not get out because the handles breaking. Should be a recall.
Key will not come out of the ignition when in park due to a plastic part in the shifter breaking. This will not allow the shift lock actuator to engage and release the keys. There is an ignition unlocking mechanism under the steering column but that leaves the gear shfter able to move freely from gear at all times, even while driving. This is occurs everyday. The dealer replaces at the owner's expense with the same defective part.
2006 chevy Hhr. Car will jerk like you realized the clutch too fast, however it is an automatic then stall. This has happened on several occassions with in the last 2 years. On 1/27/10 the check engine light came on. Took car to the shop, after having a complete tune up, ignition module change and a coil change the car will no longer stay started unless you are giving the gas pedal constant contact. The code coming up says it's a misfiring in the cylinder but the shop can not find that. There is oil in the intake but no water in the oil. I'm several hundreds of dollars in parts only already. The car is not drivable. It will not drive in reverse without heavy pressure on the gas while trying to brake with your left foot and look to drive it backwards.
I shifted my car into park but the button on the shifter did not release. Because the button was stuck, I could not turn my car off nor could I remove my key. Furthermore, while driving, the shifter can potentially be moved from drive to any other position without the button on the shifter being pressed. I found a "release" button under a cover on my steering column which allows me to turn my car off and remove my key, but that doesn't change the fact that the shifter can be moved accidentally while driving. The brake does not even have to be pressed to change the position of the shifter.
Consumer is unhappy with general motors. The consumer stated the vehicle did not come equipped with a spare tire, jack or lug wrench. The consumer stated he specifically asked about the spare tire and the salesman stated one was provided. The consumer stated he did not personally check at the time. Two to three weeks later after the purchase, the consumer wanted to check the pressure in the spare tire only to discover there was no spare tire in the spare tire storage area. Instead, he found a tire sealant and inflator kit.
I have a 2006 Hhr and the plastic doorhandle on the driver's side has broken off. I have to leave my car running , roll the window down, stick my hand out of the window, open the door from the outside, roll my window back up and then kill the motor. I, too, was told it would cost $400. 00 to replace the door panel. This is a total ripoff!!!!!!!!!!!. Gm/Chevrolet or whoever manufactured this car should be ashamed for putting in a cheap piece of plastic. There should be another way to fix this without putting out $400/$500 for a broken piece of plastic! and that probably does not include tax and labor!.
While driving down the highway, my drivers side window exploded into my vehicle. The window was completely up, there where no other vehicles in front or on the side of me. I heard a loud pop then the window blew out. Causing me to almost run my car off the highway. My drivers side door has had to be adjusted 3 times already. I don't know if one thing has anything to do with the other. While researching this problem I have found many complaints from others stating they have had various problems with the drivers side front window. This defect if it is one is extremely dangerous for anyone. Any help in this situation would be greatfully appreciated.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr. After a heavy rainstorm, the contact noticed that the entire front and rear seats and the carpet in the passenger compartment were damaged due to unknown water leakage. The water level was four inches high in the front and rear driver's side front and rear passenger sides. There was mildew on the front and rear driver's side seats, gear shift, floor panel, and vents. A strong odor was present. The vehicle has not been taken to an authorized dealer. The failure and current mileages were 47,321.
My shifting lever went out in my car, the reason why I think its a defect. Is because one of my neihbors bought the same exact car I have and hers went out 2 weeks ago. Then I went online and there are bulitens people have wrote about theres going out. 2006 chevy Hhr.
Roof mounted antenna hits sunroof glass hard at speeds over 75 mph. I would also like to note that, the vehicle I am trying to report is not on your list of cars from the menu. I am not driving a cobalt, I am driving a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr, which is on the same chassis as a cobalt. Please add to Hhr to your list of vehicle to select from. Thanks.
