Fuel leak in front of drivers side rear wheel. This is completely unacceptable in an 8 year old vehicle. The fuel line corroded and leaked heavily, cost me $254. 22 to replace this faulty gas line. I am obviously not the only person this has happened to. I have also had all the other typical problems such as the key will not release from ignition, bad rotors, loose front end bushings and excessive front end vibration over typical street cracks. Broken drivers side interior door handle, cracked windshield. . . . . .

12 Door problem of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Chevy Hhr all models, all years: when exiting my vehicle the drivers door handle snapped. It is made of plastic!! after research I discovered this is an extremely common problem with all models and all years of the chevy Hhr since all interior handles are made from plastic. This is a very expensive part because it requires the replacement of the entire interior door panel. It is a dangerous situation because once the handle has snapped the only means to open the door is to unroll the window and open with the ouside handle or to have another person open the door from the outside - not ideal, especially if one is in an accident or emergency. I believe chevy should replace all handles with a sturdy, non-breakable metal handle. This would improve safety of this dangerous situation.

The door handle of drivers side of 2007 Hhr. Broke off. As I opened door. . It is made of plastic and if battery should die or if there is a fire there is no way to exit quickly from drivers seat. . 21 Door problem of the 2010 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

I drive a 2010 chevy Hhr. I noticed not to long after I purchased it new the door(drivers side passenger) would not open from outside or even inside when I would crawl inside and try to get it open. It would only do it on occasion. Now it has ceased to happen at all in the past 6 months. On may 25th of this year the passenger side did the same thing. My mother and I were traveling to my daughters graduation and it completely locked her inside. She could not get the door opened at all even though I hit the unlock button and she tried many times to do the same thing on her side. The actual door lock was in the up position showing that the door appeared to be in the unlock position but when she went for the handle it was still locked. This happened several times on this day. It even set my alarm system on my car off because after it refused to unlock it eventually did and then refused to lock back. I go around after getting out of the vehicle making sure all my doors were secured and it was not locked even though the latch was in the down position and appeared to be secured. Is this a computer problem with these vehicles? I have read about problems with the older model Hhr's having this problem but not on a newer one of the year I have. What I want to know is can someone access my computer board in my vehicle and set those locks to mess up? it was almost like someone was maybe wanting in my vehicle and what a better way to do it than to mess with the locking system. I would have never known my vehicle was unlocked had I not went over and physically checked it that day because like I said it appeared to be locked. The lock actually went down when I hit my key fob to lock my doors that day. Weird thing is. . . It hasn't done it since then. . . . How does a vehicle fix itself?.

22 Door problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

About 4 month ago the door handle on the front inside passenger side broke for no particular reason. There was no force when about to open door and the handle just stayed in my hand. I called chevy dealer to see if I could just buy the handle, I was told that I would have to buy the whole panel which was about $400. Dlls with installation. I can't afford that amount on jus a plastic door handle(for some reason I always thought it was metal. ) I try not to sit anybody on front inside passenger seat because I'm afraid that god forbid I get in to an accident, my front passenger would not be able to get out. I really think gm should of make the handles of metal, but since their are plastic and obviously defected then they should of at least make the handle separated from panel so that we the buyers could buy it for a reasonable price.

23 Door problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

About 6 months ago the inside driver side door handle broke off so we cannot exit the car without lowering the window and reaching out side of car and opening it with the outside handle. About 1 month ago the inside passenger door handle broke off in the same way there have been times when I stop the car, take my keys from the ignition and then realize I cannot open my door, so have to reinsert my key to turn the car on enough to allow for the power windows to go down, so I can reach out and open my door from the outside of the car. There have been a few occasions that I have rolled my window back up and locked and exited my car forgetting that I had put my keys back in to power the windows, when I return my keys are locked in my car and the battery is dead. . . . This is very frustrating! and this happened this morning with the exception that the front door didn't lock. I got inside shut the door, realized that once again I had left my keys inside( because of having to reinsert to roll the window down to get out) began to start my car and the battery was dead so I could not open the door by rolling the window down, nor unlock the back doors because the locks did not work due to the battery being drained! so this is not a mere inconvenience anymore it is a serious safety issue!imagine being trapped in your car! please help us because we are being told there is no recall on this even though there are many reports on the internet, and there is a safety recall on a latch of a compartment on the dash, which is nothing compared to this issue. . . The cost of repair is completely un- reachable for us also. . . This should be fixed at the cost of the car manufacturer. . . Our car is less than 6 years old and wear and tear might be the case if it was 1 handle not both!! thank you!.

24 Door problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 09/23/2011

We bought this car in 2011. In the first year of having our Hhr, the inside door handles on the driver and passenger sides are broken. The driver side broke first and about 4 months later the passenger side broke. The rear hatch door latch went out about 6 months after buying this car. The lot where we bought it says al of the fixes are our problem. But, they add up to, to much money for us to fix. I have been researching these problems. There are way to many Hhr's with the same problem not to have recalls on. Why has there not been any as of yet? these problems are safety issues. They should be recalling the parts and replacing them.

31 Door problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/11/2009

Yesterday when I got home I discovered that I could not get out of my driver's door from the inside. The inside handle broke, so I rolled down the window and used the outside handle to open the door. Today I tried to get a new door handle only to find out that you have to purchase the whole door panel ($269. 71 with my trade discount). This is a crazy way to repair a cheap plastic door handle. I have searched the internet only to learn that this is a problem to many other Hhr vehicles. I believe this should be a recall with a better design included for this door handle. The last recall I got was for a glove box catch problem, which was a piece of molded plastic with tape to hold it on. The driver's side door problem is a much more dangerous problem.

34 Door problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 02/24/2007

Last night, it was a bit windy here in new york city. The weather report said that the wind was about 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Well, I had made a few stops on my way home from work, but when I got home, I opened the door, and as is started to open, the wind pulled the door out of my hand, and things happened so fast . . . I heard a bang, and the door flew open . . . I'd say . . . Almost 180 degrees, which sounds impossible. The door then came back and stayed open about 16 to 18 inches. I could not close the door. I pulled and pulled, and it closed. Now, it only opens 16 to 18 inches, and I have to squeeze out. The car has damage to the left front quarter panel and the door. And, I don't know how badly the internal parts of the door are. The quarter panel is sticking out about 4 inches, and the door is rubbing against it very hard, which is why I can only open the door a little bit. I'm not an expert on assessing damage, but I did call my insurance company this evening to file a claim. (my guess is that I'm looking at almost $2,000 in damage . . . But I'll post an update when I get the 'estimate'). I told the insurance company that the door hinges must have been defective, or loose, or something. And when you look at the car, its just one of those things that you have to see it, to believe it. It is obvious that I didn't hit anything, and nothing hit me. When you see it, all you'll be able to say is "how could that have happened"? has anybody had anything remotely similar to this? I want to know if the vehicle is poorly constructed, or if the door hinges are inferior, weak, bad, loose, or whatever!.
