Front passenger seat belt remains locked. Sometimes it will work if you adjust it up and down but other times it won't work at all. I had to have my passenger ride in the back today so that she could use a seatbelt because the front one refused to release. The vehicle was parked but running. Standard transmission. Also happens when vehicle is moving.

I have had my Hhr 2009 for a year now and I've changed the brakes twice within two weeks. . The first set was still new but it kept making grinding noises and roaring noises when I press down on brakes. . . My steering wheel shakes like crazy I really do love my car and I wanna get the problem resolved ASAP.
Takata recall on Feb,25/2019 I was I was traveling 95 north to chesterfield to get on chippenham parkway and I was in a car accident with my 2009 Hhr I hit a another car from behind and my hood on my Hhr was torn back so bad it would not open ,the airbag did deploy I was going about 30 mph when the person in front me came to a complete stop. And I slammed on brakes I have to see a I have to see a doctor now.
Airbag system service is illuminated on the dashboard however all the sensors were replaced several times as long as it says service airbags the system is not active nor working so a crash is guaranteed to kill you and the seatbelt retraction system is also affected it extends fine but in the event of a crash it will not lock even under hard braking this same problem exisists so if it wont lock you will feel the steering wheel on your face and chest I have made a chevy dealer aware of this but they said dont worry the system will work fine ignore the service airbag warning vehicle in motion on city street or highway driving the vehicle does not matter system has a flaw in it and gm wont fix it.

Air bag light came on which effects the seat belt.
This issue involves a 2008 Chevrolet Hhr with the base radio system. The main door mounted radio speakers stopped functioning in 2017. The a-pillar high frequency "tweeter" speakers continue to work but are unintelligible. With the main radio speakers out, two safety features no longer work; the seat belt warning chime and the onstar subscription safety service. I believe both these systems rely on the driver's side door mounted speaker. Other safety chimes, if any, would also be affected. This is not an isolated case as I personally know of other Hhrs with the same issue.

Inside door handle broken cant open door, electric mirror switch fell into door, back indoor panel falling off, leak through passenger door behind front passenger. These are ongoing issues with other Hhr owners and need to be addressed. The door latch is made of very cheap plastic. You can verify with all youtube videos.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph she activated the brake to stop and the seat belt tightened around her stomach. The contact stated that she tried to unlatch the seat belt; however, the seat belt latch seized; she wiggled out of the seat. The vehicle was taken to a mechnic. The vehicle seat belt was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Bd.
While putting on new seat covers I noticed the bottom seat belt swivel attachment to the car rusted. Checked both front seats and they were both crusty rusted. This can't be good. I have pictures to verify my finding. Awaiting your reply. Thank you.

The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to restrain the contact securely. Additionally, the vehicle stalled and the doors could not be unlocked. The contact became trapped in the vehicle. A police report was filed of the incident. The contact sustained injuries to the knee, chest and arm. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,990. Kmj.
2007 Chevrolet Hhr. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle headlight and tail light issues. Consumer also has seat belt problems. The consumer stated the tail light went out so often, he carried spares with him. The over head light shorted out. Also, the key would hang up in ignition, which made it difficult to disengage, the shifter would also become stuck in park. The gears did not match up with the gear shift lever.
The front door handle broke on the passenger side of my car in 2013 we had taken the car to the dealership to inquire about this, since this is a safety issue not being able to get out of your car if something dangerous was to happen. At that time the dealership told my husband I that there was nothing they could do about it. Then again in 2014 the driver side door had broken also. So now I have two broken doors on my car that you can only get out of, if someone lets me out of the car or I roll the window down. I feel this is a major safety issue. If I were to get into a serious accident were I was unable to roll my window down and did not have someone riding in the back seat (say car caught on fire) then this could lead to major problems if not death. Also when my husband had an accident neither airbag deployed. And backseat passenger side seatbelt would not release and we had to cut my granddaughter out of seatbelt. So now I am driving a car that airbags did not deploy in, back seatbelt had to be cut and my front two doors you cannot get out of if unable to roll window down. Major safety issues. We had around 98,000. Miles when issues started with the doors. Which I believe the miles should have nothing to do with a safety issue.
Before I knew about the recalls, I had an accident that really scared me. I was on my way to pick up my daughter from school. All of a sudden, I steering wheel jerked to the right and locked. I hit a light pole. The impact of the crash should have deployed the airbags, but did not. Seat belts exploded. The cop said I shouldn't be walking and to get this checked out. Since then, I have had two recall repairs and now need another repair. On veterans day, 2014, I was given a car from the vfw and progressive as a part of their "keys to progress program. Since then, the Hhr has been driven maybe 3 times. No one wants to drive it, I don't know what to do, because its just sitting in the driveway. My kids won't drive it either. If you can help me in any way, I would be grateful. I am having trouble making the payments too, because I am going through a divorce.

My car started with the ignition switch back in October with the key not shutting off the car and having to disconnect the battery to shut it off, took it into the dealer and they fixed it, but now things are getting scary. Every other day my car is telling me that the abs systems needs fixed and that the traction control needs serviced. The breaks were replaced in December of 2013 and we were told that there is nothing else wrong with the car and now this. . Took it back to the dealer and they informed us that there is nothing wrong with it, but the lights come on and go off for no reason. . The passenger seat belt locks all the time and even after you unlatch it, it stays locked for some time. I am so frustrated over this issue and can't get any answers on it.
The contact owns a 2009 chevy Hhr. While driving approximately 50 mph the two front passenger and driver side air bags deployed and caused the seat belts to malfunction. The failure caused the contact to crash into a snow bank; however, there were no injuries or damage to the vehicle. The failure occurred approximately febraury 19, 2014. . The vehicle was diagnosed by a technician from the manufacturer; however, they were unable to diagnose any failure in the computer. The insurance company stated that when they diagnosed the failure the computer indicated there was a problem within the air bags. The failure mileage was 59,000.
The srs light was red and stood lit for one month and then it went away, I have 3 children under 17 years of age and this problem just worries me and has me worried about the safety of my family while in this car. We had the ignition replace by the dealer about a year ago, because my wife could not turn off the car. No other problems reported by my wife. We love our Hhr. Great family car. We might need to go bigger since our growing family. Hope this problem of srs gets fixed or does not become a future problem.
My airbag light came on and my passenger seatbelt keeps locking. There are numerous other Hhr owners with the same problem.
My seat belt continued to get stuck on the drivers side of my Hhr. (what if I were to have had a wreck and couldn't get out?) took vehicle into a dealership Monday 4/29/2013 evening around 5 to have them look at it to see if there was anything stuck etc. With the buckle itself. Service writer looked at it and managed to get it stuck and from then I could not get the buckle unbuckled so therefore I have had to drive around sitting on my seat belt. The service writer determined that it was the mechanism in the buckle itself causing the seat belt to get stuck. Since my warrenty is up because I am over 14,000 miles I am having to foot the bill for this item. The car is only 3 years old has never had a wreck nor have I spilled anything or done damage to this buckle. I feel that this is a safety issue that needs to be looked at and paid for by chevy. Cars from the 60's and 70's still have their original buckles so therefore why am I having to replace one that is 3 years old?! I also called around to wrecking yards to possibly locate the part and come to find out I am not the only one having this issue because the guy at the shop knew exactly the part I was looking for and which side I was looking for as soon as I said Hhr.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated that the driver's seat belt malfunctioned. The seat belt failed to un-latch when the release button was pushed. The failure has continued to reccured. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
Front passenger seat belt was locked and would not allow for proper use; unable to pull out from the extractor. This has been an intermittent problem that continues to exist. This is a safety problem in that passenger is forced to ride without benefit of seat belt. The problem goes away and allows proper use of the belt usually within 2 days without any rhyme or reason. There seems to e no reason to trigger the problem and no reason why the problem resolves itself on it's own.
I was unable to unlatch my seat belt on the driver side on two separate occasions, on consecutive days. I had to crawl out of my seat belt. Luckily I had just arrived home from work. It is very unsafe for me to not be able to remove my seat belt, especially if there were an emergency. I cannot risk having the seat belt lock again.
My car continues to shake as do most Hhr's gm knows there is a stability issue an has refused to properly address this dangerous issue. My airbag light has come on. The back driver side door handle does not open from the inside or out and my seat belt and back floor board stays damp making the structure of the vehicle dangerous and my seatbelt unsafe. Gm executive response is that not all VIN numbers fal into the service bulletins. These cares need to be immediately investigated and taken off the market. The bolt covers in the back seats fall off at a touch and cannot be reattached. They dig into legs. An accident would present a stupid impalement threat. Why are they there. This is a dangerous car. Gm states my care did not appear to them until 49,000 miles. I bought it at 19,000 miles. There are lies every where. There are crooked salesman and gm is still on the scam. Owners need a legal or congressional advocate for the cars we are stuck with that are dangerous and seriously devalued. They have had allot of training in dealing with owners with issues. We need likewise representation. My care is an accident waiting to happen. I have a frozen shoulder from holding it in the road for 3 years. It is a blood trap that you cannot see out of. It is damp, shaking, difficult to control and unpredictable. I could ot sel it in good conscience. Who would buy it any way? what happened to the legal order that required them to report dangerous problems in 5 days or face penalties? they are way over the mark on this one. Just look at my car.
Rear passenger seatbelt would not unlock to extend for use. This seatbelt had been used about 10 minutes prior to it locking up when trying to pull it out for use. It would not pull out.
I was recently in a front end collission with a chevy Hhr lt 2007 where my air bags deployed. Due to the airbags being deployed my seatbelts locked to prevent me from hitting the steering wheel and window. However my passanger seatbelt ( no one was in the passanger seat)locked and due to the pressure of the lock/combustion chamber the plastic cover of the seat belt became projectile in the car and hitting my right arm causing abrasions and burn marks. I now have a perminate scar due to the force of impact from the seatbelt cover.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated that when the front passenger seat belt is unbuckled, it becomes locked. The failure prevents the seat belt from being re-fastened. The manufacturer stated that the seat belt was working as designed and would not make any repairs. The contact feels that this is a major safety issue because the passenger is unable to latch the seat belt and could be injured or worse in the event of a crash. The current mileage was 800 and the failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated that the passenger's side front seat belt would not extend to the latch mechanism. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and repaired however, the failure was recurring. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 38,914.
My 8 year old son became trapped in the rear seat belt. He was twisted in the seat belt and it was cutting into his waist. The seat belt would not come back out to release him but would only get shorter and tighter on his waist. I had to cut him out of the seat belt. Chevy replaced the seat belt and my son had minor cuts on his waist.
I am the one owner of this car. Since day one nothing but problems. Air bag lights on dash illuminated, driver and passenger, warning have remained on no matter if your buckled in or not. It is supposed to signal if not buckled in, I have only heard it do this twice in the past seven years. I wear my seatbelt 99. 99% of the time but have to tell my husband to put his on, I wish it would beep or do what is is supposed to so I wouldn't have to beep. We took to dealer at about 1000 miles and was told " not to worry about it " when seatbelts are engaged the airbag warning signals on dash and center console still will be flashing. Airbag warnings never turn off ! I feel gm should include this in the airbag recall, same parts- we all know.
