Automatic Transmission problems of the 1996 Chevrolet Lumina

Consumer complained about a problem when shifting gears in cold weather.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2000

Transmission gear casing shattered at about 50 mph leaving vehicle with only 1st gear, no reverse.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/16/1998

The automatic transmission malfunctioned due to the a tube coming out of the socket, causing the transmission to be inoperative and the vehicle to stall which may cause an accident.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/09/1996

Vehicle would not accelerate above 30 miles per hour due to transmission not shifting up when in overdrive.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1995

When stopped at light or hill when brakes are applied, vehicle will move backwards. Tt.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

After driving at hwy speed for several miles then exiting, auto-trans w/overdrive performs erratically, sluggish.
