I have a 2000 chevy Lumina with 54,xxx miles on it. In 2003 when it had 22,xxx miles on it I had the transmission worked on because it was shuttering and shifting hard. It was still under warranty at the time. Now, 6 years later I am having the exact same problem and am told I have to have a whole new transmission installed. A car that has 54,xxx miles on it and has always been serviced on time should not have the transmission go out. It had a code of 1810 when diagnostics was done to it.

Had to change battery, this causes the on board computer to reset to original setting. The transmission (4t65e) is programmed to make shifts at certain speeds in an allotted time span. Because now, the car (2000 Lumina) is older and the shifts are a little longer the computer sends messages to the transmission to force pressure on the lines to correct split second shifting. This causes hard shifting and grinding sounds. I stop the car, turn the motor off, then on and its ok again for a few more miles. A transmission shop wants $1400. 00 to fix problem, but the problem is a not so Smart computer that doesn't allow for a car to age.
Lower intake gasket failure. Loss of atf transmission fluid.

The transmission completely seized up. The car was able to shift into any gear, but the car would not move forward or backwards. The planetary gears (2) were stripped. The transmission had to be rebuilt.
Cost to replace/repair transmission $2053. 69. The dealer did return $1026. 00 to me.
Upon routine inspection I noticed a bolt was laying loose on the driver side in the engine compartment on top of the transmission housing. After realizing where it went I noticed that another bolt was missing!! the two bolts are the transmission to engine block mounting bolts. I have not found any other bolts missing or loose but it is difficult to see their locations. Would not want to be traveling down the crowded highway at 65mph and have the transmission come apart from the engine!!!. . . . . . . Thanks dave coryea.

While gong up a slight incline at 30 mph and up vehicle jerked/hesitated like it was going to cut off. Dealer and manufacturer were notified about the problem. The dealer could not duplicate the problem. Problem has not been corrected. Please provide any further information.
Car rolls backwards when stopped on slight inclines unless the brake is fully depressed. It has caught me by surprise a few times. I will mention it to dealer on my next visit as I thought this was a normal thing for big car. Steering column gives a loud clunk when turning; it sounds like it is not properly locked in the adjustment position. I have had it checked and "nothing wrong" was found. I have only changed the steering wheel position once in 1-1/2 yrs. Yet it still does it constantly and it is such a hard click that I feel like the steering wheel is going to drop into another position. I will report it to the dealer again.
Vehicle experiencing roll back; whenever vehicle is on a incline it would roll back if brake or acelerator pedal was not applyed. Dealer notifed and inspected the vehicle and informed that the vehicle was design that way. Can NHTSA provide addtional informtion on this matter.
The automatic transmission malfunctioned due to the a tube coming out of the socket, causing the transmission to be inoperative and the vehicle to stall which may cause an accident.
While driving the vehicle at highway speed on major highway it was almost rearended. Went into neutral and the it was almost rear ended. This has happened several times. There is a service bulletin (TSB) 6771641. Took vehicle to dealer and they rebuilt the transmission. Dealer is aware of the problem because of the service bulletin, but is not honoring it as a recall. In addition, windshield wiper motor malfunctioned 3 times.

Vehicle would not accelerate above 30 miles per hour due to transmission not shifting up when in overdrive.

After driving at hwy speed for several miles then exiting, auto-trans w/overdrive performs erratically, sluggish.
I lose power when going up slight inclines and the engine seems to hesitate when driving up the incline. At first I thought maybe the spark plugs were bad but had them checked and are fine. I believe the transmission is going because the car also rolls backward when stopped or on an incline.
