One problem related to transmission slip out of gear has been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Ongoing problem with vehicle skipping / jumping out of gear at 60-65 mph, and egine check light remaining on. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on four occasions, and nothing could be found. Seeking help from NHTSA on this matter.
