Hazard switch malfunctioned and was replaced in 2005 under recall # 03v327000. Hazard switch malfunctioned again in March 2008. Dealer and manufacturer state the policy that switch cannot be replaced more than once under the recall, and second replacement was at customer expense for a known and recalled issue.
Please see NHTSA recall campaign number: 03v327000 2001 Chevrolet Malibu recall to replace defective hazard/turn signal switch on this vehicle was completed in 2004. Recently hazard and turn signals have become inoperative on an intermittent basis. Warning/turn signal lights either do not flash, stay on constantly, do not turn on, or different lights behave differently. Gm dealer has not been able to locate problem.
Safety recall #03043a (03/08/2004) - turn signals/hazard warning flashers inoperative * the turn signals work intermittently: you have to push the hazard switch off and on to get the turn signals to work. In order to make the turn signals work, the driver must take one hand off the steering wheel to push the hazard switch on and off and this defect also forces the driver to take their eyes from the road and to the dashboard of the vehicle in an effort to make the turn signals work properly, which is a major safety hazard. I brought the vehicle to classic Chevrolet in altamonte springs, FL on 9/10/07 per this safety recall. Although the recall covers VIN #'s from 1m500024 to 1m669822 (the vehicle clearly falls within this range VIN# 1m551207), the dealer refused to replace this part under that recall. I called Chevrolet, and was first told that it was part of the recall, and that the dealer should replace the switch at no charge, then was told it was not, as there are certain VIN #'s within this range that are not effected. Ultimately Chevrolet refused to address the defective turn signal safety recall issue. This vehicle is having the same exact issue as the others in this VIN range and could not possibly not be part of this recall. I am asking that the nhsta intervene in this matter, as it is clear that Chevrolet is not willing to address this very dangerous safety issue. I fear that there will be an accident in this vehicle because of this defect.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. While attempting to make a turn at an unknown speed, the turn signal indicator failed to illuminate. The failure occurred intermittently. The dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall and the repairs would cost approximately $362. Over the last year, the failure has become more frequent. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 107,000. Updated 09/25/08 updated 09/25/08.
: the contact stated the turn signal intermittently shut off when in use and, while driving various speeds, turned on without warning. There was a NHTSA recall, # 03v327000, regarding the hazard warning light switch. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
: the contact stated without warning the turn signals have become inoperable. There was a recall, #03v327000, concerning the hazard light switch; however, the component has failed again. The dealership has been notified, but the vehicle was not subject to the recall any longer and no repairs were made. Updated 03/28/06.
I bought my car when it was a year old, since buying the car, I have had to pay 800 dollars to have the ignition switch changed, which I found out later the dealership should have only charged 400. I have also responded to the turn signal recall to have the hazard switch fixed only to have the same switch go out again, not even 2 years later. I am being told that it will cost at least 200. 00 to fix. Instead of the turn signals not working now there is a constant clicking in the dash, which they said is caused by the hazard switch being defective. . . If that is the case then why would they replace the original switch with a defective one and not replace the defective one?.
Hazard flashing warning lights doesn't work and my turn signals are sometimes inoperative. Gm said my vehicle is not included in they recall no. 03043 although I having same kind of problem stated in that recall(NHTSA campaign no. 03v327000).
Consumer's vehicle turn signal would operate intermittently. It worked some times, and some times it would not work. Consumer fixed, it was an open circuit in the hazard switch. Which failed. Consumer knew of NHTSA recall 03v327000 on same make/ model, and year, but consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.
Consumer stated the vehicle was experiencing the very same problem as mentioned in recall 03v327000 concerning hazard flashing warning light switch.
Exterior hazard warning light faield to illuminate intermittently. Dealership was notified with gm manifactor but did not resolve the problem.
Recall notice regarding 2000 and 2001 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles and the solder joints on the hazard warning flasher switch may crack.
Hazard lights and turn signals will not work due to defective switches.
Intermittently turn signal and hazard lights became inoperative. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the hazard light switch needed to be replaced.
Driver side door clicks loudly while opening/closing, is it a bad hinge? one other person has complained about this. Does not feel like a lube problem. Afraid bad hinge may break/move causing door to shift. Turn indicator works intermittently-saw on your site that there is a recall for the hazard light switch causing this.
I was having intermittent trouble with the turn signals and hazard lamps. They will stop working when you most needed them. My mechanic changed the turn signal switch but that didn't fix the problem. At that point I saw that there was a recall on hazard switch pertaining to same type of problems. I contacted gm, they told me my car is not part of the recall, and referred me to a dealer. I went back to my mechanic, and he figured out that the hazard switch was the problem. As that is where all the power is distributed to rest of the exterior lighting, and it will fail particularly on a hot day when it was hot, and the air condition was turned on. He replaced the hazard switch, and the car has not have that trouble for last one month. Can somebody tell me, how is this problem different that the problem explained in the recall? also, having trouble with starting of the car. Once in a while the car doesn't start, and the ignition makes a wierd noise. The original tires that this car came with,m were a joke. They wore unevenly, and made the car shake and rattle. Have put new michelins on, and that has solved that problem.
Turn signals on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu quit working at unpredictable times. Thru trial and error, discovered that by turning on hazard flashers and then off, that turn signals would then work. Contacted dealer, and was told " that is a common problem, most likely hazard switch". When next in for service, (June 17, 2003) had problem checked, and hazard switch was replaced, at a cost of $119. 50. If this is a "common problem "(as I see it is by a number of service bulletins and defect investigations on NHTSA web site) and apparrently a known defect, it should be covered by a recall, or "unwritten extended warranty" .
Hazard light switch does not function correctly. Bad switch causes hazard lights and blinkers to quit working without warning. Switch was replaced once under warranty, but it failed again. I purchased another part and installed myself. I have the old part.
The turn signals and hazards lights worked intermittently. The dealer has been contacted. Please describe further.
The turn signals operated intermittently due to a malfunction in the hazard warning switch. Dealer replaced the hazard warning switch.
