2004 Malibu lt, weld on rt front of 6 way driver seat broken, seat motor runs but can not make seat adjustments. The seat sags to right when trying to move forward or back. But will not move forward or back on the seat frame.
Theft system did not allow the car to start. Theft system light appears intermittently. Following the "wait 10 minutes" procedure described in other complaints results in start on some occasions but does not work on others. Considering the gm ignition problem recalls, I do not understand why this has not been the subject of one.
I was in the process of slowing down for a red light on a busy highway when my car just died. I had two kids in the car with me. Something bad could have happened. Good thing it the car died at a red light. I waited a few minutes and the car started up. I had the car tested for any codes and nothing showed for a reason why the car did this. This has happened several times. The first time it happened was about 3 years ago.
My car has had interior electrical problems since the day that I bought. I have had things like the cd deck and the brakes and alloy rims fixed after having problems with them however I have had the front left blinker fail to work and then an hour later it works, the next hour does not work. The interior lighting all stopped working and the dealership says that it is electrical, at the same time that the lights stopped working I started to be unable to shift my car from low into 1 or 2. I have had my power steering go out multiple times and then after pulling over, shutting off my car and turning it back on it worked again. I have almost go into an accident multiple times because the front left blinker stops working mid drive, or the power steering stops working. This car clearly has multiple electrical problems that should be recalled and fixed because they are very dangerous.
Through the years we have had off and on episodes of the car not starting even when we had a good battery and in the middle of driving the power steering giving out. We finally took the vehicle to a mechanic after being advised to replace the battery. The mechanic, gm dealer, advised we need a whole new steering column, this was 6-25-13. In less then a year the car continues to not start and today the power steering again went out on my 15 year old son as he was driving home. We have left e-mails with Chevrolet with no return. The last aforementioned gm dealer said that we would get a call about the recall on the steering but appears there is no recall on the ignition, despite several news articles saying there was. We are now out of a vehicle due gm not responding.
2004 Chevrolet Malibu. Customer states that he has received three recall notices for vehicle in June 2014 and July 2014. All three noticed indicated the parts are not available and hasn't heard any response since.
This is the 5th time this had happened with my 2004 Malibu, but the scariest. Similar to the other times, but this time on a curve. I heard a chime& "power steering" appeared in the message box. My car veered to the ieft into traffic and I could barely steer it. It took all my 66 yea old strength to turn the wheel & get into my lane. I pulled off ASAP & turned car off in a safe location. Shaking for 15 min. I don't understand why this car is safe to drive. It does not revert to manual steering. The ceo is lying. I have owned manual steering cars and this does not steer that way. I am afraid to drive it it has also stalled with numerous lights coming on. Abs, engine, and one I think is another steering light, yellow with a line through it. Why aren't they pulled?cruise control comes on by itself & won't shut off.
After starting car there was no power to windows radio or ac also gauges for temperature and fuel did not work.
2004 Chevrolet Malibu experiencing power steering problems, abs and shift cable, all replaced. The consumer stated the vehicle was taken to the repair shop seven times, due to power steering failure, which resulted in the steering locking up. The consumer was involved in two accidents, in which the air bags failed to deploy. The consumer received a transmission, steering and brake recall. However, the parts were not available.
I was driving the car through an intersection approaching the ramp onto the interstate. I lost steering control for about 2 seconds, just missing the guard-rail and having an accident. The next morning, there was a recall for the 2004 Malibu. I contacted the dealership for a loaner car, only to be told the car VIN number is not an approved model for the recall. I need to know why it is not if it is having the same issues. I have reported to this site at least twice about issues with this car.
Power steering light came on and ringing sound sounded and power steering went completely out in the middle of a busy intersection as I was making a right hand turn. I managed to get it to the curb and call for help. After sitting a while it became normal, but I am afraid this will happen again. There have been many complaints from other about this. See NHTSA action number ea 04018 and lots of gm service bulletins. My dealer cannot help because the recall was for 2005 Malibu max electronic power steering and not the 2004, but it is the same power steering unit. Judy teeters.
Since at about 110,000 miles (car now has 160,000) the theft system prevents me from starting my car by disabling the injectors intermittently. I find this to be a safety hazard as do many others that have posted comments online. It has stranded me at 1:30 in the morning in front of convenience stores. Not a safe place to be stuck. Chevy says its a $300-$1000 fix but I have read that it still does not fix the problem in some instances. I'm surprised that there has not been a class action lawsuit against gm for this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Randomly while driving down the road my power steering has gone out multiple times. I listed the most recent date. Now they say it will cost around 1000 to fix. If multiple people have complained about this shouldn't their be a recall? if the roads were icy I could've crashed and killed someone.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu classic. The contact stated that the front driver side window failed to roll down. In addition, the instrument panel gauges, air conditioning, and radio failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
Front turning signals or running lights get very hot and melt through the amber lens that the bulb sits in. These bulbs burn out quite often, which have created some near misses while making turns because the bulbs would burn out without notice. This is a very common problem on all the 04 and 05 Malibu. I have contacted the chevy dealers and the deny and knowledge of the problem, but there many complaints of this online. Every Malibu of these years have the same problem.
Intermittent problems w/ signal light. No signal (from stopped or waiting position) signal, then no signal (any speed). No signal, then suddenly signal (any speed or driving condition) I've had it in to the dealership multiple times but they have never been able to replicate, so they say there isn't a problem.
When starting the car the ignition gets stuck, there is a recall on other models but not the 2004 Malibu, and also the right rear tire rod has part that has come loose, took to tire shop and showed where the part will have to be welded back to the rod. Currently have recall on steering for 2004 Malibu 14116.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 70 mph, the brakes activated independently and the engine stalled. The vehicle was able to restart after several attempts. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control), but the part was not available to perform the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The passlock security system malfunctions disabling the vehicle. You have to reset the system which can take up to 30 minutes. This can be a safety issue when it happens while the vehicle is in motion. I have seen thousands of complaints for this issue. This is a common problem that needs to be recalled.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that when traveling on an off ramp, the steering wheel became seized. The vehicle was repaired under a recall, which was unknown. The failure recurred. The contact also received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control), 14v153000 (steering) and 14v224000(power train ). However, the parts to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Ne.
Front turn signals intermittedy stop working.
The passlock system and fuel rail combined created a injury to pedestrians that is unbelievable the car took off after left turn into a parking lot.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled with multiple warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle stalled while driving over speed bumps or any other jarring event. The contact coasted to the emergency lane. The contact had attempted to take the key out of the ignition, however, the key would not eject from the ignition, continuously stuck between off position and aux position and would not restart the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer for a diagnostic and the mechanic stated that the lock assembly needed to be replaced because they failed to eject the key and was still diagnosing why the vehicle had stalled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 14v400000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 79,000. I got in my car and tried to crank it and it made a clicking noise. It took hours before it started, on another incident; several times I couldn't shift my car from park. My power steering light came on and when I was coming to a stop at a light the car list control serving left to right until I came to a complete stop. I always have to gas the car to get gas to the engine for the car to start. When I took it to the dealer he said that it was a recall problem and he's had several customers with my car come to him with the same problem. When I looked up the recall I noticed that my car was having the same issues as reported.
In summer 2013 I elected to replace both headlamp casing with a new headlamp kit because of internal discoloration and yellow liquid fluid seeping from daytime running lamp. Approximately 1 week later the new daytime running lamp casing melted and burnt the new bulb. The bulb was replaced at no cost. At my next service 5-6 months later I inquired about replacing the defective headlamp casing because the bulb on both daytime running lamp burnt through its plastic casing, again causing internal discoloration of headlamp kit. I was told warranty expired. The dealership sent an inquire to gm regarding such defect but I am told there was no response from gm and I have no recourse. I no longer use daytime running lamp. I purposely shut off the daytime running lamps (which defeats the purpose) for fear the bulb will continue to melt the casing causing further discoloration and burn the bulb. This is not how the product should be made; poor craftsmanship and poor workmanship.
In June the drivers seat began listing to the right and rocking. The dealer looked at it and said it is a broken weld and quoted me $800. 00 to fix it. Then in sept of 2012 I was trying to maneuver out of a parking lot and the power steering locked up. It was really scary, it took all my might to get to a safe place to stop without hitting anyone. When I restarted it was okay and my mechanic did not see any obvious problem with it. Also the cd player no longer will load up cds although the other functions and info on the little screen work. Also the side mirrors no longer can be adjusted in the vertical plane although they still move horizontally.
2004 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to switch replacement recall repairs and seeks reimbursement.
While pulling out of a business parking lot with my mother in the vehicle, I turned the steering wheel to back out and it wouldn't turn at first. I cut the car off and restarted it once again, this tie the steering wheel turned for about half a turn and the just kept on turning with a knock every full rotation. The wheels were not moving at all. No matter how many times I restarted the car it never worked. So I was forced to block half of the parking lot until my car was flat-bedded back to my house. Previous to this incident I had experienced the wheel stiffen up at low speeds but it always went right away, I have seen countless people online posting stories about this happening to them, and I was just driving on the freeway minutes earlier and this could've happened then and been a tragedy, why has this not been recalled?????.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while going through a stop sign, another vehicle crashed into the passenger's side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that there were additional items on the key ring. A police report was filed and the contact sustained a bruised knee. The vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was included in recall NHTSA campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was unavailable. Pam.
Turn signals working intermittent and inoperative could result in a crash when turn signals not working this is a big safety concern gm knows of this problem and has a recall no. 03043 my vehicle is a 2004 and gm said no recall on this vehicle this car has the same problem as the recalled vehicles turn signals stop working could cause a fatal crash I want gm to pay for repairs they know of this big problem.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu classic. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled when the fuel pump exploded without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who confirmed that the fuel pump exploded. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
While driving down the road the vehicle just randomlyu shtu off theft light came on as if I was stealling my own car had to wait 10 mins with ignition oin to reset the theft system when looking online this is a known issue most of the time it is when starting but for me I was drving this is a seriuos concern for me.
While on my way home, driving north on I-95 near washington, DC, I experienced lots of electrical problems (noise and grabbing to the left in the steering column, repeated bulb and light unity failures) then suddenly, a total loss of power steering. I became so scared while needing both hands to manage in heavy traffic traveling at an average of 65mph that I immediately threw a lit cigarette out the window in a desperate effort to control the vehicle. The steering wheel is almost impossibly difficult to steer. I was unaware that it had blown behind my back onto the driver’s seat until it burnt me, my shirt and the seat. It is by the grace of god that I didn’t have a fatal accident. It is probably needless to say that I continue to experience back pain. A disaster is waiting to happen! the fact is that sometimes while driving the power steering will start working again as quickly as it went out. Consider that I could be turning the wheel as hard as I can and at that second the power returns to send me spinning. Keep in mind that this is occurring more frequently everyday. Sometimes it does stop when the car is turned off and sometimes it does not. With regard to the brakes they make a loud and grinding sound when I lift off of them.
The above date is approximate because I have had problem with this since I bought the car in 2004. I called the dealership, gm corporate, and NHTSA for years. I always got the same response, "cannot duplicate the problem". Gm owes me money for all the aggravation and money for paying service dept. For nothing. My car lost steering on the highway while trying to pass an 18 wheeler, this meant I was in the left lane. By the grace of god, I'm still here!! I still have my car, but I have not received a recall letter!.
My complaint is that I have received two letters informing me of recalls on my brakes, and the electrical power steering. I received the first letter a month ago regarding the ( eps), I called gm and I also called Chevrolet, I have not heard anything, now I receive a letter two days ago recalling (bcm), (bas), I don't understand how you can send out letters stating there are recalls but parts are not available, but you are concerned. Please help me understand this, this is my only means if transportation and I am not happy about how this is being handled. Now I am in fear if what could happen while I'm driving and nothing is being done to correct these problems and prevent my death or someone else's. I have already experienced the (eps) problem twice to be exact, I didn't know what was going on, so, I would appreciate someone contacting me with some information in how quickly these problems can become resolved. I am really considering contacting a lawyer, because nothing is being done. My life is more important than the letters you send saying you are concerned about my safety, that is a joke. Thanks for your convience and hopefully I will get some kind of response.
