Front Seat Head Restraint problems of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

The weld on the front torsion tube of the driver seat adjuster is detached and the tube is disconnected, allowing more than 200mm of fore/aft movement of the upper seat back and headrest if seat is in full up position. This will clearly not pass fmvss 207 or 210. There are already dozens of complaints nearly identical to this one on the NHTSA site. This should be a recall. I do not know when this initially occurred.

Driver's seat right front support bracket weld failed during slow turn. The corner of the seat dropped down, and now it wobbles up and down. The tube that connects the brackets on both sides of the driver's seat failed at the weld on the right side. The tube appears to be too thin for the application - the weld has peeled a piece of the tubing away. The seat belt is attached to the seat instead of the frame. So now the safety of the driver restraint system is in question, because the seat is unstable. After an internet search, it appears that this is not an uncommon problem, and is costly to repair or replace the seat.

2005 Malibu without side airbags customer was in an accident and believes that her injuries were due to the head rest* the consumer stated the head rest should have been designed lower to protect the consumers neck. When the consumers head is on the head rest, it pushes her head forward.
