1 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2020

I have owned my 2006 chevy Malibu since later 2018. It is now Nov 1st 2020. A few months after I got the vehicle I had issues. I have had all recalls replaced by fredericksburg virginia chevy dealership (they say that they did?) the entire time I have owned this vehicle the steering vibrates at high speeds. Also the entire time I've owned this car, when I speed up any hills my steering locks up my battery light comes on and the car pulls to the left or right depending. This is extremely unsafe! dealer didn't know what could cause it. I learned to immediately take my foot off the gas and the steering goes back to normal. This is not easy on a curvy hill road. This can cause a serious wreck. I have a 10 month old baby. This is frightening if it one day it doesn't fix by taking my foot off the pedal. Now my steering is stiff and is so hard to turn when driving at slow speed. The steering motor recall has already been replaced says the dealer. So why is it going bad again? it has only been 30,000 miles later. Why am I having a stiff steering wheel again if they replaced it? the tc light came on within hours of the steering going stiff. Why does chevy distribute vehicles with such safety issues? I should not have to pay for the steering to be fixed/replaced again! dangerous chevy vehicle.

2 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Ok steering in this car was good seen that it had a recall before for that. Also when I called chevy they told me . But that's my most concern as seeing as much I have put into this car. It's weird I looked on your site before and had recalls now it dont. I just want to see how to get it fixed with braking my pockets.

3 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2018

2006 Chevrolet Malibu: power steering locks up! locks up to the point it take two people to turn the wheel, this happens while driving! headlights and brake lights go out and when bulb is replaced they burn instantly. T/c never turns off! recent complaints from people in other states have been made there are also evident recalls but Chevrolet fails to honor the recall and refuse to fix because the cars are 2006 and the uear now is 2018. This is not fair! what are we supposed to do? this is a saftey issue! it is morally unethical and illegal for Chevrolet not to acknowledge and honor this recall regardless if the car we have is used. If the recall was made and was not fixed they must acknowledge that the repair was not made and fix the problem for the car owner! I am sure Chevrolet has a database and is aware at what and how many vehicles have been repaired due to this recall. What are they waiting for a lawsuit? I demand that this recall be honored and this problem fixed ASAP. If I or my family are harmed due to this I will sue so help me god! I am sure there are many people out there who agree that what Chevrolet is doing is wrong! the issue happened several time this year and happened again today!.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2018

Takata recall the security system locked up and the ingnition won't turn over so the car refuses to start. This all happened when I put it in neutral and it just shutoff. Then refuses to start. The car was technically stationary, my foot was in the brake while it was in neutral. We were about to turn into a church parking lot when it stalled out and would not come back on.

6 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

When I accelerate getting onto the freeway and going up hills, my car experiences a loss of power steering and throws me either to the right or the left.

7 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2018

When driving, go to turn wheel and it hesitates and sticks for a second. Does it very often whether turning left or right. Start the car sometimes and warning bell sounds, power steering appears on radio screen and power steering has failed. Turn car off for awhile, turn it back on and power steering is working again, sometimes. And last, start car, start driving and the gas gauge goes from full down to empty. Warning bell sounds and low fuel appears on radio screen. All these things happen randomly while driving on a street. Have seen recalls for these things on other 06 Malibus but never for mine. My garage wants hundreds of dollars to fix these problems. Something I can not afford.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

Lost power steering on acceleration onto highway several times over the last 2 weeks. Could not steer untill it reset at speeds of 50+ mph.

10 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2017

2006 Malibu VIN number shows no active recalls but my wife who drives the car informed me that the car was acting funny so I took for drive and first turn wheel hesitated like it didn't want to turn and when it did could feel it on the column like something was moving that wasn't suppose to this is main road through city heavy traffic so immediately headed for home and have to cross tracks to get there and when I went over sounds like front end wants to come off the car sounds like loose stability bar or joint and to top it off I noticed fuel gauge was going from full to empty and back up so in actuality she has know idea how much has she really has in vehicle I seen a lot of complaints about these things happening to this model and I send my wife and kids off daily in this vehicle with these problems that could pose a huge threat to their safety if it happens to her on main road or rr crossing.

11 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2017

First when I turned the car on I wouldn't have power steering so it took a couple of try's turning the car on and off to get power steering on. When I was driving on the highway I lost power steer in my Malibu it flashed on the screen and I lost power steering on the highway going 65. So I brought it to the dealership to fix it because I saw that there was a recall on that system. But little to my knowledge that recall was "fixed" in July 2015 so I passed the warranty on the recalled part. First concern comes to my mind is how does a company put a one year warranty on a part that already is faulty. My next question is if my car was perfectly fine when I brought it into the shop for that recall 2 years ago how do I know they actually replaced that part? I feel like I've been scammed by the dealership somewhere and now I'm paying for it. It was the same exact parts as the recall but now it's no longer covered, how does that even work.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2017

I was told that there was a power steering issue with many 2006 Chevrolet Malibu's and mine was not one of them. I have had issues with my power steering for the past 5 years and every year it goes out between the winter months of January-March. And every year I am told that my car is not one of the recalled vehicles. I have had lighting issues, electrical issues, and power steering issues back to back. This is a hazard because they all seem to malfunction all at the same time and/or while I'm driving or parked. I have children but I'm scared to have them in my car. Please help me, I know that this is apart of the recall this car is a safety hazard. I will attach a photo but I also have video.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2016

Power steering was fixed 2 years ago due to recall. Now the car is doing the same thing, but worse now. Losing power steering multiple times throughout driving (one trip). Gm refuses to fix it again. I think it's unfair for them not to fix what is their fault. I constantly have to pull over & cut the car off & crank it back up, only for it to keep doing the same thing. It happens every 4 miles. This is ridiculous!!!!.

14 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

Traction feature fails when braking. The brakes will not operate properly causing the vehicle to continue to travel forward although the brake pedal is being pressed. This happens most often when braking on an incline or in wet conditions. It happens whether the speed is fast or slow. Have brought vehicle to graff chevy for recall repair, but continue to have problems. Had brake pads and rotors checked by firestone who stated that neither of these needed repair, and therefore, are not adding to or causing the problem.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2016

At times it's very hard to steer, turning the key to start the car and the engine just cranks and when you let the key off the engine continues to crank.

16 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

Electric assisting power steering after complying with the original repair recall about 6 months ago, the same problem occurred twice recently. Lost steering control at slow speed. Req instructions to follow. For further repairs.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2015

18 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

When I accelerate quickly to enter traffic, merge with traffic or pass a car (going 25 - 50 mph), I hear ding, ding, ding warming bell, steering wheel pulls to the right and momentarily becomes locked. I grab it with both hands and let off the gas and it recovers. It is totally unmanageable for those moments and very alarming. I have had my car in four different times since Nov, 2011 for power steering problems/recalls. This current problem is a safety factor!!!!.

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

2006 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to recall notices. The consumer stated two days after the first recall repair, because the repair was not fully completed, due to lack of parts, she experienced two episodes which she deemed unsafe. While sitting with her foot on the brake, and the vehicle in drive, she suddenly felt a slight shift, as if the vehicle was trying to move forward, which it did, without any warning. 21 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

End of July 2014, early morning, while driving 70mph on the interstate with clear dry conditions, my brakes began to pulse on their own and the traction control light began lighting up in correspondence with the brake pulse. . The cruise control shut itself off. The check engine light and brake light came on remain on and cruise control no longer works. This continues to happen throughout the entirety of my 60mile one way daily drive. I was notified of recall13036 which includes all of these issues. , I took the vehicle in for a scheduled service for this 12/12/14. After waiting more than 2 hours to get my vehicle back (without the recall work being done), I rescheduled for 12/16/14. After completing the recall work the vehicle was returned to me with all error codes cleared. Less than 3 miles down the road, all of the issues returned. No cruise control, pulsing brakes and t/c light, check engine light and brake light came on and remain on. I contacted the dealership and they told me that they simply added lubricant to connections and that all of these issues are not associated with the recall. I read the recall notice to them, it clearly states all of these issues are related to the recall. The dealership (pete harkness/morrison,IL) recommends that I bring it back in again and pay $90. 00 for a diagnostic check and then I will need to pay for any repairs needed.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

No physical incidents have taken place as of yet, however when asking about part being replace for my two recalls I get nothing but attitude and "I don't know" answers. My recalls are on the transmission shift cable, body control module, brake apply sensor and electronic stability control. I still make car payments, single mother with a toddler in the vehicle and all I get is an " I don't know" when our safety is in question. If I could afford a rental I would get one and keep the car parked, however a rental is like another car payment. . . . Where do I go from here?.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

Driving at 40 mph, all powered functions shut off - no power steering, hard to brake, and engine just quits. All "idiot" lights come fuel, oil, stability traction control. . . Just like before you immediately start the car, where all lights flash on. After two minutes of rest - I try the car again and it starts. Today, (7/15), this incident happened within 10 minutes of each other. The fist incident was exactly a week from today on 7/08, same speed, same road. The cart just quits. I am using this car for this summer where it is actually owned by mother. The car was purchased from jim o'brien Chevrolet in willoughby hills, OH.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

He power steering light came on the display. I could not steet or turn the car. I turn tge car off for about thirty minutes. I started the car back up called gm dealer on 38th street explained the problem & went in. The service department said that it was power steering column & that it would be 1200 dollars to fix. I did not have the money to fix it. On several occasions this has happened to me. As recently as February 25, 2015 I took my car to a private mechanic & paid 817. 00 for suspension work, bushings etc & 253. 00 for two tires. The mechanic informed me that the intermediate mid shaft needs to be replace & that there was still clucking noise & rattling in the steering wheel. I test drove the car with the mechanic & as I was turning out of the parking lot the power steering locked up again. It was very difficult for me to turn the steering wheel as I was turning on a busy intersection. The power steering light came on display. I cut my hazard lights on & cut the car off & started the car up. . . . I do not feel safe in this car. I got on line on February 27, 2015 googled 2006 recalls on Chevrolet Malibu's & seen that there was a recall. I contacted dorman products & left a message in regards to my issue. I also contacted gm 18006302438, spoke with a representativeabout the issue (power steering) & she asked for my VIN number. She also asked me if I was the first owner of the car, I explained that I purchased the car from the andy mohr dearlership & that there was a previous owner. The representative informed me that the recall letter to the previous owner on February 5, 2015. I updated my information & received a letter the next day for the recall. I am schuled to go in for electric power steering assist (recall # 14772) on Tuesday March 3, 2015. I hope that this dangerous issue is taken care of. Concerned Chevrolet Malibu owner.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

Driving along on a state hwy at 57mph, power steering alarm dings and power steering ceases and OH crap!! I'm not wanting to die yet! I maneuvered the car to the shoulder thankfully and restarted my car. After several attempts the power steering returned. Obviously the chevy company is waiting for enough accidents or deaths to offset the cost of a recall . Has there been an investigations? how many people have to die? I see many complaints, stories of mechanics that know nothing about it or charge for a "maybe fix. " really??? please advise me of any real answers to this dangerous problem. I'll also be in contact with my senator sheila harsdorf and the state of wisconsin's department of safety about this problem. Thank you.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

On the day of the incident I was traveling on the road with my two children in the vehicle. Suddenly the speedometer and gauges on the dashboard went down to zero while I was driving. The abs, traction control, engine light, and security lock lights were lite up on the dashboard. The fuel gauge is not responding to the amount of fuel in tank. If ever I turn the car off it would not restart which meant my children and I would have been stuck in the middle of nowhere. Its been a headache trying to keep up with the amount of gas in my vehicle due to gauge not responding. The power steering light comes on on the dashboard. Just everything is wrong with this model vehicle and it seems every week there's another recall that is added to the list. Its scary. Twelve to thirteen lives have been lost already over defaults of the chevy modeled vehicles. A very insecure and uncomfortable customer/family.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2013

We were never notified about a recall that occurred with the entire steering systems for Malibu's. The manufactures extended the recall up to 150,000 miles. On Friday November 23, 2013, we were backing out of our parking spot when our power steering went out on us. We had none. Then we turned the car off and back on, suddenly it was there again. Here lies the problem; we took it to the local dealership and "they" informed us that there was a recall in the u. S. However, we were not notified and since our Malibu was out of the 150,000 miles; they said the recall would not cover it. How can owners of cars/trucks get their safety items fixed, when they have never received the recall notice?! this is a safety issue, not a physical appearance issue. If I am driving along a corner and my power steering locks up, or suddenly stops and I kill or maim another individual who is responsible? gm? as I read the other "complaints" on this site; this is not about car owners trying to receive brand new cars. We all just want our cars to be fixed by the recall regardless of the mileage and to be safe! perhaps, we all should get together and sue everyone who is involved with not getting the information out to the public and gm. Just a thought. I do not know about the other owners, but I cannot restart my car in the middle of a corner or going down the interstate at 55/65 miles per hour.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2013

Last November, 2013, I was driving my 2006 Chevrolet Malibu maxx lt on simsbury rd. In avon, CT when I experienced a very dangerous loss of power steering and the electrical system. Causing my front right tire to blow out. This made mycar to swerve and veer into oncoming traffic. T I was at risk of being hit by other cars. While waiting for roadside assist I was helped by the CT dot and avon pd. This was a harrowing, dangerous, and stressful experience for me. I would like Chevrolet to cover all of the repair expenses related to this accident and all problems & repairs that followed since this is directly related to the power steering& electrical system recalls from gm Chevrolet. They did not notify me directly about the power steering& electrical system recalls. I found out only this week August 10, 2014 after I called this with regards two additional recall notices I received of late regarding faulty transmission and brakes. They do not have parts or an expected date for repairs and have refused my request for a replacement vehicle in any form. I have spoken at length to their customer relations director as well as all three of the Chevrolet dealerships I have used for service and purchase; o’neill Chevrolet, avon, CT, gengras Chevrolet, east hartford, CT and carter Chevrolet in manchester, CT, where I purchased the vehicle. None of them are willing to arrange a temporary replacement vehicle and have no further information on a date for repairs or parts availability. This is outrageous and unacceptable. Please advise consumer affairs and me as to how I should proceed. I am a disabled american and have no other transportation options other then my own car. Thank you.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2013

2006 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to body control module connection system recall notice and customer reimbursement requests form issues.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2013

My wife was driving from work when the car lost power steering. This happened as she was leaving the parking lot of her company. She parked and turned off the car. When she restarted the car the problem went away but the power steering seems different and not as smooth.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

Hard to turn steering left 4 brief moment. Power steering light display????.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2012

I have had problems with my power steering over the years. But this was the worst it has ever been. I was driving 55 mph on the highway. The roads were clear on this spring day. My traction control, brake light and check engine light came on. Then the power steering was chiming and the alert came on for that which effected my power steering. The instrument cluster was flashing on and off along with the gauges not working correctly. Then the instrument cluster went completely out. So the instrument cluster was replaced. A couple of weeks later, this all repeated again. So this time the ignition was replaced. After all that, the power steering still chimes and alerts still come on which makes it harder to steer. Then I have to stop the car, turn it off, wait and restart it. Then it is fine for a while. My mechanic says the only code that shows up is for the 14772 recall. But my car is not part of that recall since it was manufactured in January of 2006. Please do some research and expand the current recall to include all 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu maxx vehicles. Repairs need to be done on these vehicles ASAP to any fatal or potential crashes.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2012

I am having problems with the electric power steering and from what I have heard is alot of other people have similar problems. My steering is real stiff where it needs two hands to turn the wheel and a good strong grip. I think this is unsafe and should be fixed through gm before this fails on others and cause a accident. Thank you.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2011

My steering wheel locked up as I was pulling out of my driveaway today and I was so close into hitting my sisters car, I was lucky enough that I was able to steer as much as a could went a little bit onto the bushes . But this is a dangerous hazard if I would have known this I would have never boughten this car. The steering wheel also gives somewhat of a vibration which I thought were the struts which were replcaced and the disc brakes. Which alot of money went into replacing those parts. I am the second owner of the vehicle I purchased it in August 2010 and now I am scared to drive around because I never know when it will lock up again. I dont have the warranty on the vehicle and I dont have the money to pay for this to get fixed as I am already paying for college. I have read numerous other messages from other chevy Malibu owners facing the same issue. What can be done to fix this?.
