general problems of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

The tire rods, front axle and transmission all collapsed while driving. Now the vehicle is at an auction ready for a resell? igot robbed by my insurance company and car company I was paying them, what worries me the most is that mopar salvage yard is putting this unsafe vehicle up for auction because of the motor? I'm being told all of this by someone else. The front tire went sideways , the front wheels is what saved my life? if this vehicle resells in any way shape or form, somebodies death is in your hands. Traction contol stayed on all the time, the steering suspension system locked up sterring wheel, the Malibu would accellerate upbto 70 80 miles, unvoluntarily. All the recalls ya'll found were on the car, several recalls were fixed, yet when the tire rod front axle all broke at one time, the tranmission got affected too. Opened my trunk two days ago and the carpet on the driver side was soaked, as well as the carpeted panel that covers the spare tire. The panel is warped and moldy. I removed my spare tire, to find that my jack was completely rusted out, along with a pool of water in the bottom of my trunk. I then put my back seats down and could see the metal beneath them was also rusted out. Apparently, it’s been leaking for some time. I then proceeded to clean the rest of my car out, and found my rear and front driver side floor boards were also soaked. I do not know where any of the water is coming from but I believe it’s causing electrical components to fail in my vehicle, such doors won’t lock or unlock using the lock switch inside the car driver door won’t look or unlock using switch inside car or remote power mirrors only move up and down, not side to side half of the controls on radio don’t work and it doesn’t display all the info that should be available radio does not turn off after turning off ignition and opening driver door and removing key power outlets stay on after car is off.

Car randomly stalls due to the anti-theft system and I have to go thru this 30 minute thing turn the key to on position and off for 10 minutes three times and sometimes that doesn't work so I have to get a tow ,last time it didn't work and now my car has been in my parking lot for three weeks still trying the anti-theft thing , and this is something a lot of gm owners are having it's very unsafe,when it dies out of nowhere you lose power steering and brakes, and on highway very scary. Concern owner.

When slowing down on hwy exit ramp, car made three quick popping sounds and started smoking. Pulled off road and more smoke called 911. The car dash caught fire and car interior burned before firefighters could put it out. Firefighter suggested it could be a transmission line? never had any transmission trouble previously.

When filling car with gasoline the fuel indicator repeatedly flips between full and empty with indicator light and bell and at the same time as fill up the check engine light came on.

The sometimes will not start. It's like it's not reading the key. I had the car for a month and bought 6 keys and that did not fix the problem.

I bought this vehicle used from paul conte Chevrolet in freeport, NY and it had 3 recalls that were not fixed before selling it to me. Now my power steering system malfunctioned to the point where the steering wheel would twitch uncontrollably and then become stiff, making it very difficult and dangerous to steer. I ended up paying for the repairs to the tune of almost $1700. 00 to replace the steering column and steering motor. After doing some research, I found that gm recalled many vehicles of the same year, make, and model as my car but for my specific VIN only the steering torque sensor was recalled. I did get the steering torque sensor recall fixed but my steering was still messed up. This recall did not fix my very serious and potentially dangerous issue. It was only after I authorized the steering column and motor repairs that the issue was resolved. Gm customer service is saying that even though I had the same exact issue as the gm recall for other Malibu's, because my specific VIN did not fall under the recall, I will not be getting reimbursed. It is not right that gm be able to get away with this. This serious steering issue could have caused me to crash. I would like to file a complaint against gm for failure to recall all vehicles that were affected by this power steering issue and also request that they reimburse me for fixing an issue that should have been taken care of before I even bought the car. My 2006 Malibu shut off whille driving down the highway. The key was bumped and shut off the car. My wife was driving the car at the time. The ignition switch is very loose. I am not sure why there is not a recall on the 2006 Malibu?.

Inner and outer tie rod ends have been replaced 2 times and needs work a third time.

I took my car in for the power steering recall and when I got it back it had a gas cap message. There appeared to be some black gunk around the gas cap area. I took it back to dealer and they said I needed a new gas cap. Although they replaced the gas cap, soon after the message returned. I am alerted to it each time I start my car, this has been going on for a year now. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong but I don't drive it far from home because of this message. I feel that when they repaired the power steering they triggered this "event" to occur. I can't afford to pay for them to figure out what the problem is, it obviously is not in need of a new gas cap as they had previously thought.

Recived calkback gm accknolaged problem with steering refused to work on car because it was look at from another dealer.

Driving down the road my power steering light came on and now my wheel kicks all over when I try to drive! I took it to a gm dealer and they said that it's the power steering motor and that it has a dead spot they said they have had a lot of this going on in my make and model! this should be a recall! also my car is starting to decide when is should start. Sometimes it takes a few try's and I have to pray it starts and after that in park it will idle high the car isn't that old and doesn't have high mileage it shouldn't be doing this!.

The first thing that happened was my passenger side rear door just suddenly flew open while I was driving my vehicle down the road. Doors were locked and all were completely closed and the door just came open for some unknown reason. Had my mechanic take a look and he couldn't see anything unusual about the mechanism or anything on the door. It has happened several times since so now I put the seatbelt through the door handle and pull it tight and lock seatbelt into place so if it happens the door won't fly open again. The second issue I am having is with the airbag warning light and alarm coming on randomly when I am driving my car. I took it into the chevy dealership for one of the other recalls and they said that to put it on the tester, it would cost me $120 (which I cannot afford to pay), so they just let it be and fixed the recall I brought it in for. I am still having the problem and I notice that when the warning light is off and I press the horn. . . It comes on immediately and beeps at me. Is this a safety issue to be concerned with? with all the issues and recalls this car has been having I am not sure if it's an issue to be concerned about or not or just wait to hear on another recall or? I can't pay that to have it actually diagnosed.

I recently sent my car over to global auto mall in north plainfield, NJ. It was there for a week without anyone calling me informing me if the car was finished when they were supposed to fix the recall. I came from the car mechanic today because my car was not working properly and the same items that were supposed to be fixed were not fixed and now I have to spend more money trying to fix it. I would like to be reimbursed for the work that I have done for my car immediately. I don't have money to keep fixing this car and I am willing to go to the media and other legal options that I have. I have kids and a wife to support and this recall did not help the situation.

Glass on sun roof blew off while driving down hwy 41 at appox. 60 miles. There was a loud noise and I'm not sure if it blew off to the side of the hwy or behind me. I don't think it hit another car but could have been very dangerous if it had.

On multiple occasions my 2006 chevy Malibu has left me stranded. I ended up having it towed to my house where it has set for several months. I have asked different ones to look at it and try to start it. The security light comes on. I have gone to the expense of having the fuel pump replaced, ended up buying a new battery and am now told that the problem is the security system. I have seen this same problem listed on numerous sites on the internet. Why hasn't this problem been addressed? I'm still paying for a vehicle that doesn't run if it ever starts. I have 3 more recalls on this car and can't even take it in to get it taken care of.

I contacted Chevrolet recall about my ignition switch. I could just put my key in the switch and it would just turn on without me even turning the switch and it would keep turning off and on. Now my key is stuck in the switch and I can't turn my car off. I took it to my dealership and they so-called fixed it before but now it is messed up again and they want to charge me to fix it again.

I parked my car and locked the doors up for the night, just like every other night, but the next morning when I tried to start my car the battery was dead. I knew I had not left anything on to run it down. After getting the battery charged and my car started I headed off to work about 5 minutes into my drive my door locks started going crazy unlocking them selves and making a clicking noise this continued for about 10 minutes when I got to work I locked the car up and went to work got off work to find out the battery again was dead. And this time my doors were unlocked. I had this problem on and off for the next week until I had to buy a new battery. The new battery seemed to fix the issue so I thought. But once again it started unlocking its self repeatedly, I have gotten use to it acting up and pretty much over look it when it does it, but it still happens a few times a week.

We have received a recall for this vehicle three times but every time we contact the dealer we are told that it will be several months before they can repair this issue. They also state that this is not a dangerous issue and that we can drive the car without concern. We do not feel safe driving this car. What is our recourse at this time? this is for recall 13036.

When I try to start my chevy Malibu it doesn't catch after turning the key and will constantly die. Already replaced the starter, fuel intake, etc but continues the same problems.

I do not recall exact accident date as I received nothing from insurance. Car was placed in park and turned off. Car had been parked and sitting for 30 minutes. Car came out of park and rolled into another parked car causing damage to that vehicle and to my vehicle. I do not think it went into park to start with. My insurance covered repair of the other vehicle and I repaired my own hechile. My insurance told me that they would contact chervolet concerning accident. Later I noticed my insurance had listed this as a moving violation and raised my insurance. I have contacted my insurance concerning this as this was not a moving violation. I was not driving nor was I in the car and this seemed to involved a recall. I will report my insurance to the state insurance commision to look into this matter has I should not be punished for this problem. I had an excellent driving records for the past 30 years. I had taken car to dealer concerning recalls but was told parts not available. I took car on one occassion and part was ordered for recall. I took car back and was told my part given to some one else. I finally received final repair on 04/08/2015. I made several trips to have car looked at and parts to be ordered then had to take it back for repairs. I also had lose of steering at times for brief periods. I became fearful of driving this car after so many problems and was nervous and anxious when in the car. Too many recalls on this vehicle after I had it for a long time. Some one could have been hurt. Why so longer to notify me of so many recalls and why so long for repairs. If recall is done, parts should be available at dealer. I should not have to take it to be looked at, then wait for a part, then have to take it back it. I will consider legal action.

I have two recalls on this car that increase the risk of crash. Recall number 14116 power steering, and recall number 14152 transmission shift cable. Parts are not available for either recall and an estimated date for parts is not available. I have not had an accident, yet. However, I feel the safety of anyone driving or riding in this car is in jeopardy.

Getting close of steering while driving almost lost control accelerating to get onto highway. Notified gm told me car not cover under warranty. Brake light bulbs have also been replaced at least 30 times on right side. While turning wheel vehicle getting clunking sound front end of vehicle inspected several times no lose components found.

Was and the steering wheel locked up while it was raining car stopped and got flooded under the under pass couldn't move the car motor wouldn't start are anything we had to get rescued out of the car due to the power.

The car airbag light is on becuse of the clock spring and the steering is intermitantly working other Malibus and cars are under recall for steering but mine is not and is not being covered by chevy very dangerous to drive hard steering at low speeds and problem with steering column.

My vehicle is on a recall with GMC and other things are malfunctioning but GMC are only replacing one issue. Chevrolet says they dont know when the parts are going to be available to fix the sterring issue but my car has another issue in which the turn signal has a short in it and it doesnt work properly.

I purchased a used car on 3/8/2014-returned vechile on 3/13/2014 for service due to excessive pulling to the left while driving and check engine light came; it was inspected on 2/28/2014; since that time, I had return 3 times for the pulling and 2 times for the check engine light again to be reparied. . The mileage on the car for the check engine was as follows for the code p0605 and evap monitor not ready and malfunction indicator light code 61,737 , 61,804, -dealer claimed it was reparied but continued to come on- 62,355 62,594 - the code was for the evap monitor and I no longer went to dealer since the manager, chris, of the service department said if I was going to report the problems to motor vehicle or attorney general they would no longer service it. (all american Ford-128 rt 28, kingston NY) I brought it to haviland auto repair (856 violet avenue hyde park, NY)before and after the servicing from along with monroe muffler for estimate on the pulling to the left and the check engine light. A four wheel alignment had been complete and it still pulls and the light continues to come on after so many miles; due to excessive pulling, the tires wil wear easily and at higher speeds-50 + it is work to keep it swaying. . .

I went to have the car inspected but the inspection machine cant read the car computer.

The worst car I ever had in my life will never have another one it is the middle of summer a/c compressor is frozen had it repaired and now it is breaking alternator belt this belt works the alternator and compressor had it replace twice it broke while driving down the road lost my steering in steering wheel almost wreak I am sick and tired of this darn car and in danger my life and kids life the car also will completely shut down going down the road I think chevy should not had put any of these cars on the road I miss my Honda now and the next car will be a Honda its sad that americans cant buy american made cars without them having all these defects.

I bought this car brand new, still had the plastic on it. The car is well taken care of. I used the re-circulate feature for the first time ever, a loud thumping noise started. The noise stopped for a little bit. Today I was driving all over the city, and on the way home the loud thumping noise started and did not stop. It scared me to drive, I thought it was something major. We had to pull the battery to get it to stop. I contacted chevy, they said it was out of warranty, they claim it is not a "safety" issue. I have medical issues, I cant be in the heat, this is a safety issue. Basically they didnt care, they said that I would have to pay to fix it, even though many other chevy's are doing the same thing.

My vehicle periodically stalls during operation. I have noticed this occurrence for the last year or so. I have not experienced any injuries or accidents as a result of this. However, I am reading that there may be issues with ignition switches of this particular make and model.

Car has starting issues. Turns over but doesn't start. Have to try again while giving gas. Does this at least once a week. Have had starter replaced yet it still occurs. Has been doing this for years.

Upon returning from vacation, we retrieved our 2006 Chevrolet Malibu from a friends house and the car beeped once and my husband was like "what's that", then I noticed in the message center area that it was flashing power steering, which it had never done before. Now, every time I get into the car, the car beeps and the power steering message comes on in the message center. I have researched the issue and have noticed that gm is not accepting full responsibility for these defective steering columns/power steering motors, only those select few (cobalts, etc. )?? apparently quite a few are being recalled in canada, but not in the u. S. And it only leads me to the question: why?? I have been a loyal Malibu owner (this is my third one) but if gm is not willing to step up and admit a serious safety defect, I may have to rethink my choice of vehicle ownership.
