Air Bag Light On problems of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

The is a message that comes across the radio screen to service airbag. It is referring to the front passenger airbag. When there is a passenger in the front seat the airbag on light does not come on the indicator located above the radio. It continues to state the airbag is off. According to my local dealership the part required to fix the problem is discontinued by gm and there are no aftermarket part for this. The dealership stated that it is a module. My vehicle does not have any current recalls to my knowledge. My concern is this is an important feature to have and there being no replacement part is troubling.

The service airbag light comes on and goes off quite often. This could cause accident or kill a person if goes off. The power steering starts getting hard to use then makes noise then fine. Airbag light doesn't have to be in motion. Power steering is in motion. On highway and turning. There is no recalls that I know of for airbags but heard there was. This has been an issue since I bought car 1/27/18 to today.

At 6:00 a. M January 11 2018 I arrived at work. I was waiting on a parking space to become available. When one became available I started my car and it immediately said power steering across my radio screen. As I tried to moved into the parking space my steering wheel was very hard to turn. Also the service air bag light came on as well.

2017 the airbag light stopped sensing passenger side and service airbag appeared on screen with the dash light too. Repair worked to get sticker in 2017 but did not take (new seat & sensor) can not get a sticker this year with the light on. Specialist in wiring said they spent alot of time and consulted dealership and can not find the problem. I am afraid to drive this car or have a passenger ride with me. Have spent about 1500. 00 trying to fix this issue. Light is on all the time with service airbag warning for passenger side. I was told that none of the airbags will work in a collision if the light is on.

Passenger airbag light remains on. Unable to pass safety inspection. Went to dealerership and they stated I needed a passenger presence module and the price on the part is $1348. 16. My car has 216,000 miles on it. Still runs well and has been paid off for years.

Several times over the last couple years, a "service airbag" message has appeared on dash screen and airbag trouble light is lit intermittently. By the time I have gotten the car to the dealership, those trouble indicators are no longer activated. I have been advised since there is no active trouble code, nothing can be done to diagnose the issue. This seems to occur more frequently after the car has been sitting in the hot summer sun all day, but it has occurred under other conditions as well. The issue has occurred both while the car is stationary and while it has been in motion. Hopefully, I'll never get into an accident with this car and find out the airbags do not function properly!.

Takara recall the passenger airbag light on dash has been on for a year. On the radio part it has said service airbag. Everyone tells me u can not service it. Now the radio says airbag warning and want to off.

This vehicle has a safety design fault where the passenger pressence sensor(pps) defaults causing the airbag light to come on dissabling the whole whole airbag protection system. This car shares the same parts with the 2007 Saturn aura whose model has been safety recalled for te pps.

Takata recall airbag senso always on; auto driver side window, sideview mirrors; seatbelt sensor & sound alerts when shouldn't; ac cooling system doesn't get cool; fuel gauge doesn't work & always on low-fuel indicator even when we've filled up; dome light dim; power locks don't work properly - only driver side works sometimes.

Service air bag light came on. . . . Then went off. Went to dealers and was told there was no code to detect problem. Unsure if any of the 8 air bags on this vehicle are operating properly. On line I have discovered this to be a common problem with the Malibu maxx. Unsure what to do. This has happened several times where it comes on, stays on, then disappears. How will we know if air bags work properly. Terrified to have a accident to find out they did not perform. Although no deaths may have happened yet with the many complaints I have found, I wonder what can we do?? do people have to die first to discover this problem. Please advise.

Airbag light up on dashboard on driver side every time I start the car and stays on. Showed to dealer and asking for $120 just to check, and said could go up to $1200 if it need to repair. Any recall on this airbag?.

Airbag light stays on will not go out.

When sitting in the car with the key turned on the left air bag indicator light shows (off) and with nobody in the right seat the light shows (on) for a few seconds then goes out, while driving with only a driver in the car it stays the same.

While driving the check airbag light illuminated on the drivers side. For the next 2,000 miiles, the light has repeatedly come on and off. Also, the passenger airbag light will come on and off when a person is seated in the chair. I have not had this issue checked out yet, but just from reading reviews online, this seems to be a common problem, with an expensive and not always finite solution. If this is a common problem, there should be a recall issued.

2003 chevy s10, 2007 & 2004 chevy Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to vehicles service airbag light comes on while driving.

Occupant air bag sensor come on in fire, now service air bags light is on and there is a burn hole in the passenger front seat.

Air bag light comes on and off. Put gas in the car and the gauge goes to empty even though I have a full tank of gas. (replaced part in the gas tank a couple of years ago) engine light has stayed on. Need to replace 2 sensors in the engine. Loud noises when I go over rough roads. I am not sure. After the sterring wheel linkage was replaced that is when the noise got louder.

Problem "service air bag" service air bag light can not be reset. Two different code readers used but cannot reset code. Presently researching other similar 07 Malibu reported air bag system problems, and there seems to be several. Also, may be related to front passenger seat belt and/or passenger present sensor. Looking for gm recall and/or TSB? will continue to research problem.

In the beginning, the problem was intermittent. If there was not a person sitting in the passenger seat the "service airbag" warning would come on and the airbag light would light on the dash. If there was a passenger sitting in the passenger seat, there would be no warning or light on the dash and the passenger airbag indicator would say "on". The problem has become worse over time and now whether there is a person in the passenger seat or not, the "service airbag" warning comes on along with the dashboard airbag light. Also, now, the passenger airbag indicator stays on "off". TSB 08-09-41-002e has been created regarding this problem.

The buckle for the passenger side seat belt stop working on my 2007 chevy Malibu, airbag light on for no reason , I lock the car come back all doors are unlocked.

Service air bag light had come on. Took into shop they told me it was a notorious on the 2007 Malibus and not to worry about it. . . . . . Still makes me feel very nervous to the fact what if I am driving down the hiway and it blows out at me causing me to have a head on accident!!!! now on April 3, 2014 I was driving to work and my drivers seat broke! it totally just broke while I was driving! I mean wth I am a 5'7 female that weighs 155 lbs! I am the only one who drives my car! there shold be no reason my seat broke! I know have to have the service station in town look at it and see what if anything can be done!!! I have seen other complaints on here also from other Malibu owners where their seats just broke also!!!! this could be deadly!!!! I am not happy at all and dont believe I will ever purchase another Chevrolet vehicle again in my life!!!! I contacted gm about my seat yesterday and the guy put me on hold contacted the nearest gm shop to me got the service manager on a 3 way call and hung up!! I explained my problem to him and he said that would be my dime. . . . He could certainly look at it for me but to replace the seat would be very costly to me! how the heck am I suppose to drive when my seat sits like a rocking chair!!!!.

On June 5, 2013 air bag light came on & I took vehicle in & they checked it. Said it was ok & not to put my purse on passenger seat as it was sensing their was a passenger & seat belt was not on. So I left & on June 15, 2013 was driving home & extremely hot air started coming out of vents. It was summer & heat was not on. The service airbag light came on again. I thought the air conditioner had gone out & was blowing out extremely hot air for some reason. Never felt such hot air in my life it was almost getting ready to burn something. My dashboard was even hot as fire. Got home & turned car off was scared it was getting ready to burn. Turned it off & back on & the airbag light went off. Then tried air conditioner & it was working fine. On 6-18-2013 took back in to dealer & they assured me it would not catch fire!!! said the next time light came on, bring it in that they may have to pull dashboard. Talked to chev. Customer service office by chat on internet, talked to a [xxx] & have that transcript printed out. Didn't get anything resolved!! I only drive about once a week to go to grocery. So I am terrified to go out of town in the car. If you have any information I would appreciate it. I've been seeing on news a lot of chevs being recalled. I was driving along and heard a loud popping noise and I thought I may have ran over a plastic bottle. I was not driving fast I was on a main street heading towards the ramp to get onto the highway. I later heard clunking noise from the rear of the car. I thought at first maybe it was something in my trunk. Knowing I didn't have much in the trunk I looked and didn't find anything that could be making that noise. All week I heard this noise while driving to work. I brought my car to sears & the mechanic took me into their service area to show me that the spring was snapped and that is where the noise was coming from. It was snapped on the bottom half of the spring - rear passenger side. I asked the mechanic how typical was this problem and he told me only a month ago he fixed another Malibu with the same problem - but the other Malibu had less mileage approx 80,000. I was given an estimate - and it's free of charge to look vehicle over. I went to chevy dealer they want to charge before they look @ the car and if you decide to go with their price they'll apply that amount to your bill. If they don't do the work - your out of that money. How can they do that? also the air bag light will occassionally come on and my fob's are not working - I was told the factory fob's might have to be reset? also an additional charge to look at. Thanks chevy - but no thanks! charging your customers to look at a vehicle purchased brand new from your company - shame on you!!.

Service the airbag light kept coming on intermittently for a couple of years until it stayed on constantly. Mechanic says the (box) is burned out and must be replaced at cost of$300. I understand 07 Malibu have this problem. I want to know why it hasn't been recalled since airbags save lives and without them we are at risk.

A couple of issues with this car!!! first off, the latest recall done in 2014 with the brake lights not illuminating when pedal pressed but did when pedal wasn't depressed. After calling and going to multiple gm dealers, I had to research how to fix the problem and tell the gm dealer how! the issue is starting to act up again now. Starts off with the gear shift being nearly impossible to pull out of park and the cruise control acting up. Wow, now a recall? second. The seering wheel has on 2 occasions jerked violently to one side then back and forth on it's own. . . While driving! almost as if the vehicle looses all power/dash lights come on it then jerks and makes a weird nose before it flips upside down and locks up! my 15 year old niece (who has had her permit 3 months) was driving one of the times! third - the airbag light randomly comes on / goes off when someone is sitting in the seat. I think I' should get all my $ back from the times I took my car in to find out "what the problem was" and had fixed (temporarily apparently) and now recalls are coming! honestly - there are enough things to worry about while driving (drunks, bad drivers, blow outs etc. ) it's unsettling to have "known" issues with your vehichle but these companies will not fix!.

I own a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu lt, purchased new from a dealership in sylvania ohio in September of 2007. Some time in 2012, the service air bag light began coming on intermittently, but was not consistently a problem. Later, the light indicating if a passenger was present would either not turn on when a passenger was present, or remain on after a passenger had exited the vehicle; this, too, was an inconsistent problem. Upon vehicle inspection by the dealership, I was told that the passenger presence senor was "malfunctioning", which indicates that the air bag system is not working properly. When asked what might cause this issue, I was told that "it just happens sometimes", which suggests to me there may be a manufacturing defect with the part.

The air bags have quit working. The problem seams to be the same as the earlier recall of the cadalics in which the problem started with the passengers side front air bag light going off and back on.

I had got in a crash in 2010 since then my electrical system and air bag indicator lights are always going on and off. Now my airbag lights stay on saying there not on. I also do not have a working fuel pump sensor.
