This vehicle has a safety design fault where the passenger pressence sensor(pps) defaults causing the airbag light to come on dissabling the whole whole airbag protection system. This car shares the same parts with the 2007 Saturn aura whose model has been safety recalled for te pps.

3 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

The seat warmer caused the car seat to catch a fire. I was crying, shaking, and just all around nervous. I had to gather myself together to even think of what to do. This happened in like 3 minutes. At 6:05am I had went out to crank the car which was parked to warm up. I pressed the seat warmer went back in the house because I had left a case of water on the back passenger floor. When I came back out to the care the seat was on fire. Nothing of course is open at that time in the morning and thankfully I didn't stay inside the house longer than the little time which I did. At around 8:30am I contacted the manufacturer Chevrolet to report this. They opened a claim requested pictures of the are of concern and of the vehicle which I sent. Chevrolet closed the claim with the conclusion: after careful investigation of your case, none of the available data suggests that the product allegation has any merit. If you¿d like to provide us with any additional evidence that you feel would further support your claim, please contact us again. However at this time, general motors is unable to assume responsibility for damages and we suggest that you resolve this matter through your insurance carrier. Not only was this terrifying, endangerment to my family and loved ones this has been a very traumatic experience overall. To get this response is a insult to consumers and they should be ashamed of themselves. This is not right. What can you do to help? there have been other records showing that this is a issue that has occurred with this year make and model of this vehicle. How can you help?I can send pictures or forward via e-mail if there is a e-mail address- thank you.

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

A squeaking sound is coming from the driver's side seat whenever I am sitting in the seat. The seat squeaks worse when the car is being driven. Upon examination it was discovered that the seat frame was broken at the point where the seat belt buckle anchors to the seat frame. The car has never been in an accident and is well maintained. . 6 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

Airbag trouble light would come on from time to time, now the light stays on, and passenger airbag does not come on while seat is occupied. Very concerning as I do not know if I have airbags or not. Seems that a large number of people are having the same issue.

7 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

I used to get a warning to "service airbags" on the stereo display, and a chime, typically when I first started up the car. This started when I was living in southern illinois. I drove with my backpack on the passenger seat, and occasionally that seat would chime for passenger to buckle up. The service air bag message would stay up for about 5 miles of driving, then would not illuminate again. Finally caught it in the act, got it to a dealership, where they told me their diagnostic came up with a passenger seat occupancy sensor was failing/had failed. The only remedy offered was to clear the computer, or consider a brand new passenger seat (which at that time exceeded the estimated blue book value). Clearing the computer of that trouble code lasted about a week. Couldn't offer more info such as if the airbag wouldn't deploy if needed, or if it was like a jack-in-the-box and might trip unnecessarily. That was almost 5 years ago, this summer it stopped advising me of the need for service. I'm not sure if the sensor finally gave out, or if some component(s) were damaged in a collision that ripped off the bumper this winter.

8 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2015

I was stopping at a red light about to make a right hand turn. Just as the car was stopping, the back outside edge of my driver seat made a loud pop and dropped about 4 inches. After I removed the seat later, the weld, attaching the electric seat adjuster to the cross bar in the back of the seat, is ripped loose of the cross bar. This seat contains an airbag in the side of it. Had this happened in an accident, I don't think the safety features would still have prevented serious injury. The seat is a dealer item and they want over $1000 do fix.

9 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. While the vehicle was parked, a burning odor emitted inside of the vehicle. In addition, there was smoke underneath the front driver seat. The contact extinguished the smoke. A police and a fire report were filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.

11 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Air bag warning lite stays on.

12 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

Service air bag warning goes on continually. Dealer says they will not repair as a safety problem but will charge me over $750 to repair. I feel this should be repaired by gm. Have been driving for over a year with this condition.

13 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

Driver side seat bracket (weld broke. ). Left back bracket.

14 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2012

I own a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu lt, purchased new from a dealership in sylvania ohio in September of 2007. Some time in 2012, the service air bag light began coming on intermittently, but was not consistently a problem. Later, the light indicating if a passenger was present would either not turn on when a passenger was present, or remain on after a passenger had exited the vehicle; this, too, was an inconsistent problem. Upon vehicle inspection by the dealership, I was told that the passenger presence senor was "malfunctioning", which indicates that the air bag system is not working properly. When asked what might cause this issue, I was told that "it just happens sometimes", which suggests to me there may be a manufacturing defect with the part.

15 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2011

While pulling out of a parking lot I felt my driver seat drop and made a noise. My seat was not in same position and when I attempted to reset the position I noticed that the entire left side of my seat was not secure any longer to the frame and when shifting weight or turning the vehicle the seat would force me to the right side. I am the only driver, back & forth to work, 43400 miles, ridiculous and dangerous to have this happen not to mention very costly (approx 1100. 00). I have notified gm and asked for follow up on this, so far nothing. This is definately a structural failure of somekind that gm needs to resolve.

16 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2011

Driver seat frame welds snap, will have to weld and make new brackets. Mine did it on the left rear. Many people are having the same problems with their 04 through 05 chevy Malibus.

17 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1901

2007 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer states seat malfunctioned while driving the consumer stated as his wife turned the corner, there was a loud snap and she slid about six inches down in the seat. The dealer informed the consumer the seat track bracket was broken, and the only thing they could do was replace the seat at a cost of $800. 00.
