The failure mileage was approximately 245,000.
Headlights burn out within a few months of replacement. Have had to replace two to three times a year. Poor design means the entire front end of the car must be removed to access and change headlight bulbs. Bulbs have gone out while driving on the highway, making a very unsafe situation.
Low beam passenger side headlight works intermittently while driving. It turns out that it was due to the electrical wiring harness burning out. This is not an easy fix for this model, to gain access to the headlight assembly the entire front bumper needs to be removed. I was ticketed and had to pay the fine since I was not able to get a shop to take off the bumper within the 24 hour grace period allotted by the local police department.
Low beam headlights keep going off. Replacing the bulb does not resolve the problem. Both drivers and passengers side lights have gone out. This is an ongoing problem, over the course of the last 12 months.
Passenger side headlight goes out repeatedly! bad wiring, multiple customers are having this same issue.
Replaced passenger headlight harness twice, as the low beam/ daytime running light connector burns until the bulb itself burns out, or the connector falls off the bulb. Mostly noticed at night, as the automatic headlights are usually needed then.
Passenger headlight keeps blowing out.
2008 chevy Malibu passenger side headlight repeatedly has burnt out socket, melting inside. Wiring harness and bulb have been changed out three times and issue reoccurs within days. Bulb has not been touched. Wiring seems in tact. No one seems to be able to resolve this issue, even though this seems to be an extremely common issue on forums. We'd like to be able to use this vehicle and safely. Thank you.
The low beam headlights keep going out. Replaced the bulbs a few times but still keep going out every few weeks. It is hard to know how and when it goes out. It is unsafe to drive with this problem that can happen at night middle of road. It is also extremely difficult and costly to replace bulb each time.
Highbeam headlights did not come rather car is started or not.
My passenger side low beam headlight keep going out. My mechanic has checked everything bulb, wire harness wires everything possible. I have used aftermarket and gm brand parts and have the same issues. The light would sometimes come on when hitting a bump but now nothing. I can no longer depend on my vehicle for night driving. The light would also come on after a few seconds after starting.
Passenger side headlight keeps going out. Changed bulbs, wire assemblies. Problem still occurs.
I been having issues with my passenger side headlight . Thought is was the bulb that didnt work. I then replaced the connection and I worked for a 4 months now it's the same issue again.
My airbag light is on airbag issues, I have had my headlights checked three times and they keep going completely out there is an issue with the headlights the steering is always shaky its been an ongoing issue with my car.
Front passenger side headlight keeps shorting out after being fixed multiple times.
Passenger side headlight continually going out after changing lightbulb and pigtail. Ended having to change item that was already known by Chevrolet to fail but refuses to put in recall.
The headlights webt off while I was driving. Ever since I bought the vehicle my headlights have been having problems.
Headlights continuously go out. I have owned the car for 5 years and have replaced the lights about 4 times but the bulb has never burned out on me the light just quits working. Used to be the passenger side only and every now and then if I hit a bump or hit the light myself it would flicker back on. Now the driver side light has refused to work for a year now. I have replaced it with a new light and new wiring harness and still will not work while the car is running. The light will come on when I unlock the doors though.
I was pulled over by the police one day and was told that I had a headlight out. May 1st, 2016 my husband went to change the bulb (passenger side) and discovered that the original headlight socket itself had completely melted (images attached). I ordered a new socket for it, and it worked for a little while before going out again about a month later. Then, the drivers side headlight went out and we discovered once again that both headlight sockets had melted (images attached). So we replaced both headlight sockets again, and this time they lasted about two weeks and they are both out again and I am left without the ability to drive at night because my headlights are not working.
Passenger headlight started blinking turning off, hit a bump then comes back on, we changed bulb and light worked for two days then went out came back on for a moment then went back out. The bulbs are good so I suspect a wiring problem. There is about 60,000 miles on the vehicle. This is a hazard I have to drive with high beams on.
Regular headlights do not work. They were going off then on for at least 3 weeks. Shutting off on the freeway 3 times. Forcing me to use my high beams. Please review your recall to include my 2008 also. Tire sensor problems since I got the car. 3 years ago.
The chevy Malibu 2008 door latch on the passenger side does not work. It has to be opened and closed manually. When you buy anew car and pay that much money for it, you expect the doors to work properly for the life of the car, as I did for my other cars. This is wrong and it should be taken care of by the manufacturer, whether it's under warranty or not. This is just good business practice. Also, my front headlight leaks inside when it rains. This is totally uncalled for. I've driven almost 50 years and this has never happened to any of my cars. This also needs to be taken care of. . . Updated 12/11/12.
Letter from senator brown on behalf of constituent re concerns about 2008 Chevrolet Malibu (respond to cleveland office the consumer stated the transmission cooler lines and front hub assembly were replaced. Also, the power steering light illuminated and the headlights had condensation which caused the bulbs to blow out. The dealer found a seal around the parameter of the capsule was not properly sealed at the factory. The intermediate steering shaft and power steering control module were replaced. Also, the front seat heater switch had to be replaced, due to the heater coming on when the seat was occupied.
You have to take off front end of car to change headlight bulb(bumper, grill, brackets). Replaced 3 headlight bulbs in little more than 1 year . Problem with replacing bulb. . . . . . You have to take off front end to change bulb. Last time I changed bulb was 3 weeks ago. Bulb out again. I am not a mechanic or body person so I have to pay someone to change the bulb. Paid someone to take off front end and change the bulb. Because it only lasted about 2 weeks or less, I am assuming there is a problem with electrical. I never know when bulb will go out. I can pay to fix it again, but, I cannot see at night with one light and others cannot see me. It is a hazard and I donâ??t know what to do. Chevy quoted me $320. 00 to do this. I paid 1st $220. 00 2nd 180. 00 3rd $180. 00 . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- because of lock problem described below, that is why I think it may be electrical my brother and I got a car (same car 3 months apart) his car did the same thing - all door locks malfunctioned - he took in to chevy. Gave him some weird excuse and said it would cost him so much money to fix which was a ridiculous amount. He traded his 2008 chevy Malibu in finally because of all the problems and bought a Toyota camry. The cost quoted him was the reason I did not take mine in to repair. I couldn't afford to pay for chevys malfunction. ## VIN failed ##.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu ltz (na). While driving approximately 55-60 mph, the contact applied the accelerator pedal and the vehicle hesitated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the vehicle was performing as normal. The failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times where the dealer performed a front end alignment. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer as the failure occurred again. The dealer replaced the transmission line. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop but had not been repaired. The headlights also did not function properly. The failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was 36,300.
I have had nothing but trouble with this car. I should have kept exact records, but I haven't. The first issue was the factory battery in 2008. It exploded in the car within 5 months, they stated that this was not covered under warranty. I have replaced 3 batteries in this car. I have had 4 sets of tires. I have had to change the front headlights 2 times. I had the entire computer system go down 2 years ago and had to replace. When I reached out to the place I purchased the car, they wanted to charge me outrageous amounts of money. So, all of my work has been done at another auto mechanic. Of course, because of that they are not willing to do anything because the work was never done with them. I believe there is something wrong with the electrical system, along with the suspension, and god only knows what else. I am currently getting ready to replace the headlights again, along with I am needing new tires on the front end after only 4 months. I have had this car for 6 years.
