I had a power steering light come one, and my esc light come on. These lights came on with no warning and disable those features while I was driving down the highway, going 57 mph, after a major ice and snow storm. I am unable to control my vehicle while it is on the road.
While driving down the road multiple warning lights popped up on the dash power steering service esc off brake light service air bag and the steering wheel becomes very hard to turn. Trying to get the car pulled over to the nearest parking lot to my left I was almost t-boned by another vehicle because the turning process was so hard. After pulling into the parking lot and turning the vehicle off then back on it goes away then all the warning lights pop on again. This time after a few seconds everything on the dashboard goes blank including the radio and then the car dies out draining the cars battery completely.
Lost power while driving on main road at 55 speed zone and car would only do 15 mph finally got to a store and got it stopped and steering was shaking and car shakes when I hit brakes.
Power steering shut down while driving, stability control shut down, loss of traction control.
The power steering goes out and the traction control light comes on and service esc message comes across the message center. I cannot turn the wheel when this happens. I turn the car off and back on and the light goes out, power steering comes back for a second then the light trips again and it's out again as soon as I turn the wheel. This occurs while driving the vehicle at a slow pace.
Tcs, abs, esc, etc intermittently stop working. Electronic power steering occasionally stops working, usually when turning at low speeds. Brake lights sometimes do not illuminate when pedal is pressed. I also replaced the wiring harness to the passenger head light that had shorted out and melted. There is a slew of electrical issues, and they usually get worse as the weather gets wetter and colder.
Gauges go crazy on dashboard.
Over a period of 7 days mid-Nov-2019, brake lights would work backwards. Depressing pedal, brake lights off. Pressing gas pedal brake lights on. Within a few minutes, service esc/traction msg. Shut car off, restart, everything worked fine. Started as weather turned cold/damp. Happened both stationary and moving. Brought it to dealer, "could not replicate problem".
Power steering will work when it wants to some days it works all day other days it wont work at all and some days I loose power steering while driving my power steering light and service esc lights come on when power steering fails this is a scary problem to have when transporting my 4 kids.
After pulling away from espresso stand the power steering on 2009 chevy Malibu completely failed w/out warning. This occurred as I was just going into a right hand turn in a parking lot at approximately 5 to 10mph. I nearly hit the drivers door of a vehicle in the intersection as they were taking a left turn into the parking lot. The steering was extremely difficult and required both hands. I came to a stop as I completed the turn, just before the parking lot exited to a side road. The truck behind me was honking and my vehicle was barely positioned safely on 'my' side of the driveway. I had no choice but to turn right onto the roadway and pull as far off to the shoulder as I could. The shoulder; is about two car lengths long before it turns into a sidewalk. It should have been an easy task however, due to the steering I could barely get off the roadway- my front tires all but resting on the start of the sidewalk. The message center on my dash read "power steering" followed by "service esc" and the esc/ traction control indicator light on the dash was lit up. I called for help & they arrived within minutes. We are unable to access the power steering unit as is located underneath the alternator, and requires removal of the alternator. About 30 min after incident I moved car back several feet - steering was still hard. I turned it off. A few minutes later I turned back on. Still getting message, but decided to drive the 5 mi back since only 2 turns were necessary. One person helping was in front and one person following. It was uneventful however warning indicators were still on & steering extremely difficult. 3hrs later I turn car on to get mileage and noticed that indicators are off. Tested the steering- it has resumed to normal. Vehicle is driven approximately 8mi hm. Message displayed twice during this drive. Vehicle had pre-trip inspection 1wk prior. 108k mile.
1) re-occurring recall fault 13036 -brake lights on - esc - traction control - etc, these were repaired but you cant repair a defect 2) power steering turns off and on - mentioned to dealer end last year 2019 - mentioned did not receive recall 14116 - spoke with gm rep today 8/21/20 (john) at nbr 800-222-1020 he stated this recall expired Dec last year any repairs going forward cost on me which isnt right. These repairs - recalls - should be handled no matter mileage/age. Upon attempting a right turn all power to steering wheel was lost but regained slowly - my thought was low power fluid. I parked the night and in morning searched vehicle for power steering reservoir to no avail did I find it - dealer advised it was electronic - still at that date I received no recall to power steering trbl - this should be repaired at gm expense.
The vehicle was taken in for multiple "recall fixes", for electrical and lighting issues. The registry shows that all recalls were fixed (purely cosmetic work) with regards to the vehicles lights being replaced (received fix it tickets by the authorities). But my car didn't burn out lights, she melted them, while I was deployed, her electrical system fried the security system and the car's computer (brain). Repairs were made in 2014 when I returned from overseas, and she was fine for a couple of months. Then started malfunctioning again in 2015 and 2016. I was charged for repairs and replacements from chevy dealerships and they fixed the minor issues. Now in 2019 the electrical system is shorting out again stating that the engine is working at decreased power and my car is draining her own battery and locking up. I bought her used back in 2009, and every couple of months or years there is an electronics malfunction and I've had such horrible luck finding a trustworthy dealership to take her to for repairs, I don't know what to do. She still continues to have electronic system malfunctions where she'll burn out or melt a component in the vehicle. She just started malfunctioning again and when I inspected the battery, she had melted the plastic housing unit.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated at various times the vehicles drivers side headlight and brake lights continuously goes out. The vehicle was not taking to a dealer for diagnosis however the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of this issue. The contact is referencing this failure to (NHTSA campaign number: 14v252 components service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control) the approximate failure mileage was 113,000 tp.
Esc car, car completely shuts down and esc tracking light comes on and it says no power/low power esc - this can cause an accident. The car completely shuts down!.
While driving down the highway there was a sudden loss of electric power steering. Just as described in bulletin 114116, making it hard for me to turn the steering wheel which caused the car to shake terribly.
Issue started with gear shift not going into park and then power steering started having issues and quit working while driving with wheel shaking back and forth. Next transmission began slipping and now barely shifts. Wheel jerks so hard when I turn now that it kicks my hand off wheel. Coughlin automotive in london, ohio told us that recall had been fixed but refuses to give us proof. Power steering has gone out in the middle of turning.
Randomly without warning the esc light will come on and the cars electric steering goes out and makes it nearly impossible to steer. As of now you can shut the car down and wait a few minutes and start the vehicle and it will work but then shut down within 10 miles. This makes the car extremely dangerous to drive.
Takata recall. Esc triggers with turns, power steering shuts down making it difficult to turn. On multiple occasions steering has failed causing me to stop in the middle of traffic, luckily able to avoid accidents. 09' Malibu @ 148k.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that their power steering went bad. It was very hard for the contact ot make turns. They had to use more strength than usual to make a turn. The esv service light illuminated and the contact's spouse had changed the brake hubs more than twice. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and was diagnosed. The test read that the esv light needed to be serviced and a new power steering system needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,700. Jw.
Takata recall. The whole car appears to be having problems at once. We go and get a certain minor problem fix and the next things pops up. Having problems driving acceleration and breaking. Doesn't seem to be safe to drive.
When starting my car, I attempt to take it out of park and I need to step on my brakes as if I am slamming them just to move my car out of park. My brake lights are reversed, I noticed this at night when a car almost hit me. I thought it was the brake sensor so I changed it and that didn't fix the issue. Since then 3 cars have almost hit me because of this braking issue. While driving my traction light also comes on, it states service traction, service esc and makes my car shake.
The service esc light came on, then the power steering light came on. I was in motion at the time about to make a turn. After a few days of the problem being intermittent, my car wouldn't start at all. I tried to start it and nothing. Replaced battery and a engine power reduced light came on. Car still won't start.
While operating my 2009 chevy Malibu 4cyl in a turn, the electric power steering without any warning failed. A warning indicator afterwards then flashed power steering and electronic stability control failure. The result was almost total loss of control of vehicle while driving in heavy city traffic going through a traffic circle with children in backseat of my vehicle. This is because without warning the electronic power steering failed which caused me to panic emotionally and also caused me great physical difficulty as I am a woman and I all of a sudden had to garner all this strength to manually steer the vehicle in heavy city traffic. Chevy is aware of this defect and will repair this if the vehicle is less than 10 years old and had less than 150,000 miles. We could have all died in a car crash. I think this should be recalled as this is a safety hazard that comes without any warning and renders the vehicle undrivable unless repaired as it is unsafe. The chevy mechanic indicates if both the sensor and motor need to be replaced it will cost $1200. 00. My husband is a veteran and we cannot afford this costly repair.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. When making a turn, the steering failed and the electronic stability control indicator illuminated. The contact was able to gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
Power steering, along with some other electric problems I am having with this car. I have only had the car for 3 years and already the steering wheel locks up frequently while driving my car on the highways, and traveling through the city. Last night the power steering locked as me and my child was driving home. I had to leave the car parked on a side street because the car would not allow me to turn the steering wheel to operate the car properly. At this time I am seeking immediate help with this issue.
My steering wheel wobbles/shakes extremely during stop of vehicle as well as in drive. At one point it said power steering service etc. I came across recall #14v153000, dealers and website says not found on my vehicle. I am wondering why that is since my problems are the same as the ones stated along with the same make, mode and year.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 75 mph, the power steering failed. Also, the esc device, power steering, and traction control indicators illuminated. The contact had to use extra strength to steer the vehicle. The contact's parent had to come pick up the contact. The vehicle was not towed. The contact called kelley Chevrolet (5220 value drive, fort wayne, in 46805, (260) 484-5566) and was advised to call gm's customer service line. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 171,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. While operating the vehicle, the service esc and power steering warning messages appeared. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The local dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 112,000.
The electrical power steering and esc control are turned off as soon as I start the cars ignition. When the car is parked , the power steering begins to twitch the wheel and does not stop. When you turn the car off then back on, it resolves the problem for several seconds then continues to do the same thing. This problem creates a very dangerous car when combined when traveling down the road. The power steering has also done this whole driving. This is a huge issue in manufacturing and poses a life threat to my 100lb fiance and our newborn baby.
Intermittently upon starting the stationary vehicle the service esc light comes on followed by power steering light. The power steering won't work. Turning the ignition off and restarting the vehicle 1-3 times usually corrects the problem. Also, while driving this same problem occurs where the power steering goes out, without warning. Extremely dangerous when going around bends or turning. Lastly, when moving (usually backing up, but also while driving) the steering wheel turns back and forth by itself as if the power steering is engaging but no turning is required. I've lost control on slick roads and in parking lots because of all of these problems. I also noticed that there's a recall for the 2012 Malibu for something similar to what my problem is, but not for the 2009 model. However, when looking up the 2012 recall it says 2004-2012 Malibu were under recall, yet my VIN for 2009 Malibu shows no recalls. Very odd. If not fixed for free, I'll be looking into class action.
Brake lights stay on while driving and brake light goes off when stepping on the brake pedal. The lights are intermittently working and I've taken the car to get the problem taken care of, but it returns.
Power steering works randomly but mostly not at all. Power steering, service traction control light. Abs light and esc flash on dash display all in one week. Driving to work made a left hand turn and power steering went out causing me to drive off the road. Power steering came back on and then out again. And has been off since.
Power steering goes out. Warning message on dash reads "power steering - service esc" this happens when I am driving and goes out without warning. Today it went out while I was driving on the highway at 65 mph rounding a long sweeping curve. Dangerous! I see that there is a recall on this problem - gm recall # n140115, but it doesn't cover the month that my Malibu was built, which is 12/08. It covers other Malibu's and other vehicles. My car has the exact same problem as theirs. Gm definitely needs to expand this recall to include all cars that have been built at this time.
Brake lights on with out pressing brake. When pressing brake the lights shut off. Cruise control will not work, traction control light, and esc light stays on . Brake lights stays on while stationary and in motion. Some times everything works just fine and out of no where these problems start to happen. I bought the car in February of 2019 from a private party. And have been having problems ever since.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. While operating the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. Also, the traction control, electronic stability control, and service power steering warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle became difficult to stop. Griffin Chevrolet (11100 w. Metro auto mall, milwalkee, WI) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 170,000.
