The power steering was lost as I was driving my vehicle in a city road. I was driving approximately 25 miles an hour on a straight road, not turning at the time. The service esc light came on. The car jerked to the side, which was terrifying with my two young kids in the car. This repair was covered under the gm bulletin 15356 and the dealership replaced the eps motor and torque sensor. However, since having the work done, the mechanic informed me that my steering column is now bent. As I have not been in any accident, this could only be from the impact of losing my power steering. I feel like this repair should be covered under this special bulletin as well. This power steering failure jeopardized the safety of my family and this should be made a full recall covering all the steering components to the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. I would like to be reimbursed for what will be over $700 to fix the issue caused by this power steering failure.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering failed to operate without warning. The vehicle was taken to cook gm super store (located at 1193 w saginaw rd, vassar, mi 48768, (989) 823-8523) where it was diagnosed that the steering angle position sensor needed to be replaced. Power steering failed while driving. This happened in a curved part of the highway at ~45 mph. Was able to make the drive home which was ~2 miles. Restarted the car at home and everything worked fine until 5 days later - same problem. Service esc and power steering illuminated on dash.
On 02/19/2018 while stopped at a red light my 2011 Malibu's steering wheel began to move right and left (oscillating) by itself. I pulled into the nearest parking lot of a local store and noticed I no longer had any power assist for the steering and my information console screen light up with a power steering failure. I shut the car off and waited 10 minutes, restarted and the power assist returned, the console light went out. However the steering wheel still pulses back and forth by itself, so the problem, I feel, could return at any time. I had a heart attack recently and physically cannot steer the car without power assist, this was very stressful for me, I am afraid now to drive this thing in it's current condition. I researched this and it is a very common problem with chevy Malibus, I feel this is an extremely dangerous issue with this model and could easily result in a needless death, I hope general motors fixes this problem, please add our VIN to the current recall campaign #14v153000. Thank you sincerely lori reehil.

The power steering failure occurs when driving.
Eps electronic power steering has failed. It makes the steering revert to manual steering. Dealership says that the torque sensor is bad. While driving the vehicle becomes impossible to control. I can restart the car several times and the eps starts working, but fails later.

I was slowing down to make a right-hand turn and the power steering suddenly ceased, forcing me to steer manually. I was not able to complete the turn, I had to stop quickly and resume my direction of travel prior to turning. If there was another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of where I intended to turn, most likely I would have collided with that vehicle. I had to use a significant amount of force to manually steer the vehicle after losing the power steering. Also, as a result of the power steering failure, the vehicle esc became inoperable. I was able to carefully drive the car to a Chevrolet dealer and was advised I need a new electric power steering motor and other parts totaling approximately $1200. I advised Chevrolet of this situation and currently awaiting to hear from them. I regard this product failure as a very serious safety issue with potential risk of personal injury. The vehicle has 39,085 miles and has been dealer serviced since purchase.
Approaching a left turn lane when power steering failed and I could barely turn the wheel to get through the left turn. Very difficult to steer car to drive the 1 mile back to home. I see on the recall list many gm cars with power steering failure recall but not my year and vehicle. I don't think they fixed the problem and my car should be added to the recall list.
