general problems of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

Was driving home on the parkway and the headlights shut off on their own had to call for roadside assistance to get my vehicle home they will work on dim but brights will not work and if I drive for more than an hour and a half they will not work at all the speed sensor keeps going bad after having it replaced multiple times.

Electrical problem causing the passenger side low beam to keep burning out. Fourth time in one year. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This issue causes a safety concern because you can be driving down the highway at night and all of a sudden you have no headlight.

Passenger and or driver side low beam headlight continues to go out. Mechanic has found connector keeps burning out the socket. Light is fine but connector is shorting out. Fire and safety issue. This issue is on a lot of Chevrolet Malibu and needs a recall fix.

Passenger side headlamp burned out took off bumper to inspect and the wiring pigtail to the headlight has melted causing it to malfunction so now in order to make it work you have to disconnect the daytime running lights so that the melting stops this is supposedly happened to a lot of Malibu's why there isn't a recall on this fire hazard is beyond me and it is a safety issue cuz you can't use your daytime running lights any longer. This issue has not been reported because upon investigation it's been reported many times and nothing gets done about it you have to pay for it yourself. This will be the last gm product.

The front exterior low beam bulbs / wiring harness keeps burning out. I have replaced them twice already and they have blown again. What is going on already a headache just to even get to the headlights, now have to spend more money to repair.

My brake lights constantly go out. My fuses keep blowing. Every time I try to adjust my mirrors the fuses blow for the mirrors and brake lights. Also my headlights keep blowing and the headlight harness has been changed and everything. It is very dangerous not having brake lights, or being able to adjust my mirrors.

The brakes light keep going out they won’t blink the won’t turn on fuses are blowing.

Passenger side low beam headlight wont work. Replace fuses relays and wiring harness. Ive read online where this is very common with these cars and even replacing the headlight assembky isnt a sure fix.

The headlights keep. Going out. I've replaced everything amd it keeps happening and it's not easy to even get to the headlight. This is a hazard as my 16 year old drives this car. We fix it and then it's out all. Over again. This has to be a recall as I've done some research and im. Not the only one with this problem. Right (passenger side) lo beam headlight continues to go out. You must remove the bumper to change headlamps, so, time consuming and expensive labor. The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that when she drives her vehicle her brake light is illuminated. The contact stated that at the time she is not depressing the brake pedal when brake lights are illuminated. The contact stated stated that when she is switching gears for from either drive or reverse the brake light only illuminates once in gear and does not turn off. The contact also stated that her traction control warning light also illuminates while driving, how ever her vehicle does not drive any differently. The contact stated stated that she has taken her vehicle to a independent mechanic who advised her that there was a recall on the same year, make and model vehicle as her vehicle NHTSA campaign 14v252000 (electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control) . The contact said she was advised that her vehicle had to be taken to the actual dealer to have her vehicle reprogrammed. The contact stated that she has not yet contacted the dealer nor the manufacturer at this time. The mileage failure 60,000.

I have a 2012 chevy Malibu I bought it in 2014. I have had the esc light come on in 2016 but no problem with it untill now of this year in 2022. Not knowing the problem I have already put alot into it. I took it to a machanic they told me it was the rack and pinion. So got that done . Apparently it wasn't it took it to another machanic they told me it was struts got that done too n still nothing so I looked it up online got cv joint, inner ,tie rod, wheel alignment. All those done n still nothing fix it. I didn't know what else to do until I made more scratch on my vehicle and I found that it could be a recall .

Having issue with passenger side low beam light after replacing it still see the light goes in and out I looked up the issue online and see many people are having the same issue on the same side of the vehicle with the passenger side light and everybody experiencing the same problem the light will go in and out even after you replace the bulb.

I bought the car a year ago from a used car lot. Replaced the cam shaft positioning sensor as per diagnostic reading for check engine light. Since then, svc air bag light has stayed on. Traction control light stays on and is disengaged. When braking esc warning goes on and off and sliding occurs. The low beam headlights go on and off intermittently and no way of knowing when it will happen. When turning cruise control on or off, the car will accelerate on its own and will increase speed until brake is applied. Regardless of whether cruise control was turned on or off. I have had it looked at at my local mr. Tire and they cannot figure out what is happening.

While driving passenger side low beam stopped working, then came back on after a few days. Now both passenger and driver low beams are not working. High beams are fine. I always used the automatic lighting to have them turn on/off for anytime I drive. Low beams required new headlamps and melted relay, replaced that as well. Service esc and traction control lights come on dash, then turn off, then come back on. It is intermittent and won't ever stay on long enough to have checked. Usually it happens when stopped at a stoplight and then when you start to accelerate again it goes off.

Headlamps keep going out within months after service, lightbulb seems to have blown but then comes back on later. Harness replacement 2 times in 2 years, plastic connectors keep melting or heating. Bulb blown also one hour after leaving dealership servicing. Multiple dates of incident with most recent 1/29/2020.

Three times in two months the passenger low beam has gone out. I work nights and each time it has gone out it has been while I am driving to work in the dark. I have researched the issue and no clear answer has been given on how to fix the issue.

I bought my 2012 Malibu about 2years ago and after warranty expiration I started having codes saying to service air bags but the codes won't stay constant and no one knows why for some odd reason. On top of that the passenger side head light has been changed 5 time in less then a year and a half and once again no one knows why. I'm not the only person with constant issues the manufacturer needs to be held responsible for faulty equipment.

Passenger low beam light keeps going out have replaced 3 time works for a couple days then goes out again. Very costly when you have to take whole bumper off to replace. Have seen many other complaints on Malibu's with same issues.

Left low beam keeps going out and bulb not burnt out. Replaced 3x in the passed year.

Right low beam keeps burning out twice driving on a city street and repaired by a chev dealer twice went out setting in garage and replaced by a certified auto shop.

Headlamp harness keeps burning causing headlamp to fail to illuminate. Have replaced multiple bulbs as well as both harnesses within the last 6 months and again, harness has burnt and my low beam headlamps do not work. Reading similar complaints, I believe it has to do with the daytime running light feature. I've noticed the issue both when the vehicle is moving and when it's stationary. While there hasn't been a fire as a result of this issue yet, I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Head lights keep going out.

Driver side low beam keeps shorting out even after replacing bulbs and harness. Windshield wipers bushing broke in middle of rainstorm on 6/7/19 in suffolk va on interstate 664 south bound.

Replaced low beam lights multiple times, had the wiring harness replaced due to a shortage that was supposedly leading to the low beams light blowing out constantly. Low beam lights still keep going out. Ongoing issue.
