general problems of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

My instrument cluster isn't working correctly. Some days I go out to start my car and the instrument cluster works. As I'm driving down the road my instrument cluster just stops working. My speedometer doesn't work, my rpms, the lights, temperature gauge and gas gauge just stops working. It's very scary and my transmission doesn't want to shift and my engine power is bogging down. This is really dangerous and I feel like my life is in danger. I pull off the road and shut my 2013 chevy Malibu off and restart it and sometimes it comes back on and instrument cluster works but start driving and the instrument cluster stops working again. I have had my mechanic try to figure it out but so far I haven't been able to find out where the issue is so I haven't been able to fix it. My brakes have also been not engaging properly. I have had to replace my brakes 3 times so far after I got the brakes fixed for the 3rd time I haven't had very many problems. I also had to replace all my hubs as well as the brakes. Also something electrical isn't functioning correctly and when I shut my car off it makes a clicking noise right after I turn my car off. I'm a member of a chevy Malibu group and there are thousands of people from all over the world with the same issues that I'm having with my vehicle. No warning lights have came on for any of the problems I'm having with my car. Please look into this and help me,us that are having these issues thank you for your time. Dashboard light don't work majority of the time is started like month ago and before that started there was something on the dash I believe is said brake/stability trak and now the battery keeps dying.

Dash lights flickering in and out and I can’t see my speed but the car still runs n has blinkers. Eventually it will flicker and go all the way black. Also the radio still worked fine n reverse camera did too it don’t stall or anything tho I’m just scared to drive at night cause I goes totally black.

Both low beam headlights stopped working. Two days later the passenger side low beam headlight turned on again, but not the driver side. 2 months later both low beams again no longer working. I've replaced all 4 fuses (interior and exterior), headlight relay, and bulbs. None of that fixed the problem.

When driving my dash lights quit for days and then sometimes come back on. I am not aware of what speed I am going when driving. I am not able to accurately drive the speed limit that I am suppose to. I don’t know how much gas I have or if I am about to run out of gas. If my check engine light is on or not, and can’t see my turn signals. How can you obey the laws of driving when you can’t tell if you are going over the speed limit or not or using your turn signal.

The console transmission gear selection indicator does not illuminate the shift position selected. I have been driving on the highway when the gear selection illumination goes off and I no longer have gear selection access nor acceleration control. I have had to dangerously roll off the highway into a safer place to attempt to restart the vehicle. After a few attempts the illumination returns and I have control again. This has happened randomly and I've tried to get help from dealership and gm but everyone that I've spoken to does not acknowledge this recall. I will attach a copy of the recall for a better understanding.

Often times as I'm driving down the road my whole dashboard will turn off and turn back on. More recently when I started my car in the morning the dash lights wouldn't turn on and all the gauges were stuck down as if the dash never turned on.

As I am driving down the road, the entire dashboard goes black, then it just lights back up as if I were just starting the car. . . All other functions regularly while the dashboard blacks out. . . The radio still works. This happens sporaducally meaning there is no rhyme or reason to it. . I am scared it will catch on fire.

The entire instrument panel cluster would turn on/off on it's own at random. At first the issue seemed to happen the most when the environmental temperatures were lower. The entire instrument panel has now completely stopped working. None of the gauges or lights on the instrument panel work. Due to this issue, I am unable to know my speed, fuel level, mileage, temperature, battery, etc. This creates a hazard when driving.

The dashboard completely went out no gauges work, no fuses are blown and dealership doesn't know why.

Steering ecu, instrument cluster, and center stack all reset while driving intermittently. These incidence have occurred numberous times and gm does not know the root cause. When an event occurs the driver looses power steering for a brief period of time. This has happened while making left hand turns, on the highway, and while stopped. Gm released a technical service bulletin to check ground points on the negative battery cable this does not solve the problem and this is a serious safety concern. I have released production level software for numberous tier one suppliers that have gone into a variety of ecus. To me it seems like all of the body control modules have lost power. When checking car complaints this same behavior has been stated in over 40 reports and all reports state gm was unable to determine the cause. Starting in October 23, 2017 got in the car started it and it started but dashboard lights did not come on. Proceeded to drive home the dashboard never came back on. I got in the car the next day the dashboard lights came on. . I took it george matick Chevrolet on October 24, 2017 and they were unable to diagnose anything, the car continued to do the same with the lights blinking on and off including the signal light while driving until one day the dashboard was completely black and the battery died completely down and I had to have the car towed to george matick chevy on January 31, 2018. Once again they said they couldn't diagnose anything boosted the car and that's it. Still to this day the car continues doing the same and the dealership is saying nothing is wrong. I feel unsafe and believe this is electrical and wonder if the car will catch on fire. I also wonder if it will start up every day and what is going to happen when I drive it. Every single day it is doing this. I keep contacting the dealer and they basically are saying if the machine cannot do anything they cannot help me. I want to know if there is another way this issue can be checked or if I have to trade in a car that I just got over a year ago. They want me to bring it in and keep paying for diagnostic testing to tell me nothing is wrong. I am no mechanic but I do know that the dashboard instrument panel indicator light signals etc should not blink while driving and the dash should never go black while driving. Please help me because I am really afraid to drive and cannot get anyone to understand this is a safety hazard when you cannot see your speed, gas level, etc. In addition when signals are blinking and going crazy for no reason the car behind me could hit me. So this happens now in motion every single day on streets, highways. Turning or going straight.

Dashboard instrument cluster flicks on & off while driving highway, side street or stationary no difference. Car acts as if it is being started over & over while driving. Check engine, stability control & other warnings flash. Bell dings over & over. Now 6 months later, instrument cluster doesn't work at all. No speed/oil/gas indicators. Dealership & mechanic shop can't find anything wrong during diagnostics. No codes.

The repair was completed, but the dealer discovered that the generator control module was also faulty. In addition, the dealer stated that a repair was performed on the vehicle in 2012. The contact discovered product safety number: 12238, which provided coverage for the replacement of the generator; however, the manufacturer stated that it had expired. The failure mileage was 58,812.

I have a 13 Malibu ltz but as I'm driving the car completely shuts off and comes back on in the middle of me driving. I had it sent to a shop they diagnosed it but found nothing said the key was possibly a problem. I went to the dealership and got a new key so for a month or so the issue was fine. I started driving again and as I have my blinkers on I'm getting ready to turn and the car shuts off again. . I'm in 5pm traffic this is scary but as the car shut off the wheel lock it cuts right back on. I took it to the dealership and they said my battery since it wasn't changed in awhile so I have the battery replaced. The car was fine now two months later it did it all over again. . I'm getting ready to turn and again everything shuts off in the middle of driving then cuts back on. I'm very frustrated I pay a car note and insurance and I don't have money to get this problem fixed. . There are soooo many complaints I just wish it would be recalled and fixed. It's very dangerous when this car shuts off in the middle of driving when there are other cars around. I'm scared to drive it but it's my only car and I'm paying notes on it. If I had the money to trade it in I would!! this all happened on a city street when there's cars and traffic . . Sometimes it happens when I'm driving but mostly every time when I'm turning. Everything shuts off the whole car it's scary.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 15 mph, all the interior lights suddenly failed to function. In addition, the vehicle was making an abnormal noise coming from the engine compartment. The contact also stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the accelerator pedal felt abnormally soft. Neighbors woke us up at 3 am to tell us they just put a fire out on the car. 2013 chevy Malibu purchased with 2 miles on it and had it for 8 months. . Went outside to check and firs was smothering. Came in house, while calling insurance looked out the window and the car was on fire again. Called 911 and went out to spray water on it. Put the fire out and waited for fire department and police. Fire department opened the trunk and tore the carpet away from the light and sprayed the inside of the car. The car was towed to the dealer the next day. Now one month later they said it was the wiring harness. The dealer can not say why it happened but want to fix the car and give it back to us, even though themseles and the insurance company said they would not get back in it either. We just asked for a car of equal value, anything on the lot (preferrably not chevy and did not have to be new), now it looks llike we will have to get an attorney because some are calling it totaled and some are not. Phone calls are not being returned and if they are we get different answers to the questions. Really sucks. Our neighbor has cameras around her house and the whole thing is on camera. We have 2 other chevy's currently, but will probably be getting rid of them.
