Several times a week my car will suddenly go into "engine power reduced" mode and go into low speed. If I get out of the car, lock it, and unlock it 30 seconds later it will reset and then be okay for a few minutes. This power reduction is exceedingly dangerous when moving at highway speeds and suddenly needing to pull over. The check engine light will come on but then disappear sometimes the same day after having parked for a while. Typically the car goes into this "reduced power mode" after about 45 minutes of driving. I was able to capture the following error codes: p1101 (intake air flow system performance), p2122 (throttle position sensor d circuit low input), and p2138 (throttle/pedal position sensor/switch d/e voltage correlation). Really hoping this will be replaced under warranty instead of having to get it fixed myself!.
I was driving downtown when car engine warning light came on and it slowed down then shut off, luckily the car behind me didn't hit me. I was able to pull over. I've had it towed 2 time one mechanic said: I needed a motor. I bought a code reader replaced both batteries. Next code p2138 reduded engine power. It a defective throttle control accelerator pedal position sensor. I towed it to gm dealership they are trying to sell me a motor and will not acknowledge, pedal problem because there is no recall only special coverage adjustment #n192188250 global safety field investigation dcs5117 global warranty.
I already replaced the pedal position sensor once and within 6 months it did it again. I was driving on the freeway when my cars check engine light came on and it gave a message on the dashboard that read engine power is reduced. It slowed me to 44 mph & was stuck at 3000 rpm. I was able to safely maneuver the vehicle off the freeway but I am seriously worried about my own safety & the safety of other vehicles if I continue to drive this car. Like I mentioned, this has already been fixed/replaced once & now it has happened again.
I purchased my car in 2017 and have had to replace my pedal sensor now what will be 3 times. Every time I had the pedal sensor replaced it was due to a message engine power reduced that would come up on the dashboard. The car would lose power very quickly whether I was on the highway or main streets which would require me to pull over immediately to turn the car off and then turn it back on. Sometimes the message would clear out, but not too much longer while driving, the message would pop back up and I would lose power again. Each time that I had to replace this part, it was never covered under my warranty. This defect is beyond dangerous and can cause harm not just to the driver, but others on the road as well. The car's engine power reduces to 20-25mph from 60-70mph in a matter of seconds which could have caused me cause to be rear ended.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 55 mph, the instrument panel displayed "your power slowing down" and the vehicle decelerated to 20 mph. The contact was able to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally; however, the failure recurred three times two miles down the road. The vehicle was taken to duvall Chevrolet (located at 464 us-441, clayton, GA 30525, (877) 818-7723) where it was diagnosed that the accelerator pedal sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure occurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and provided case number: 9-5339020905. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Accelerator pedal sensor keeps malfunctioning while driving.
Driving along and my 2016 with 39,000 miles loses acceleration power and receive warning engine power is reduced. I limp it to the chevy dealership and they get it in and I get a call later with them telling me they have seen this in two other cars and they are waiting on the accelerator throttle pedal sensor that needs replaced. They reset and cleaned the sensor and sent me on my way. It's happened three other times since then and I limp it back to shop every time to get reset. I should not be having this issue with it barely out of warranty. It says a lot of one shop to have three Malibu's waiting for this part to become available. I love the Malibu's but with the issues with this car I've had it's hard to keep my faith in Chevrolet. They know this model is having issues yet has not recalled my vehicle yet and I'm out of pocket. I'm a single mom that needs a reliable car.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated and would not exceed 20 mph. Also, the fuel sensor warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to serra Chevrolet (28111 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48034, (248) 354-6001) where the contact was informed that they were aware of the failure and the accelerator pedal position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,874.
Driving down major highway, cel came on, vehicle went into reduced engine power mode. Scanned cel and found code for app sensor failure. Brought to chevy dealer near where car broke down and they said they would charge me to diagnose it and then charge for parts and labor. The only issue being is that the gas pedal and sensor are on a national backorder. Which means that since this is not a warranty issue with the thousand of gm vehicles affected by this issue I would have to pay for the repairs and the cost of the rental car through the dealer. There is no eta on when the part will be in (if ever) since gm has not been producing these parts for aftermarket repairs. This issue started on 12/21/18 and the dealer said it may take up to two weeks or longer to get the part, the part has still not been issued to the dealer which has several cars with this issue. I have owned several gm vehicles, my grandfather worked for gm, and I service many heavy duty gm engines through my job, but this will be the last gm vehicle I believe I will be purchasing. The quality of gm is gone immensely down and they are not worth the headache of owning one anymore.
My Chevrolet 2016 Malibu, while driving on the highway, out of no where my car decreased in speed and my engine light came on. The screen said engine power reduced. I was unable to drive over 30 mph. I pulled over, turned the vehicle on and off where I still was unable to accelerate. I immediately took it to the local Chevrolet dealership where they told me it was a gas pedal sensor that went out and that this part is going out in all Malibus.
