Check Engine Light On problems of the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu

Speed reduced on freeway to 20mph, speed reduced warning with check engine light on.

As we were going 75mph down the highway the vehicle started deaccelerating with the check engine light with the following message appearing on the screen �engine power reduced� we had to quickly pull over to the side of the road to avoid having a wreck. After shutting the car off for a little bit the message disappeared. After looking into this there a multiple people with the same car and same issues, but no recall or investigation has been started.

I purchased the vehicle in 2018 with 20,000 miles on it. My check engine light has been on more than 7 times in the past 2 years. I had to have the fuel injector worked on, sometimes it won't shift completely into park, I had it decrease in speed from 70 on the highway to no more than 20 mph with over $400 in repairs just that time. I do not drive fast or deprive my car of regular maintenance. I have never had issues like this with any other vehicle.

On 03/10/21, I was driving north on a busy highway. I approached the stop light and reduced speed. I came to a full stop and the car shut off completely. The check engine light came on briefly, then lost all electrical power. I had no hazard lights, no radio, no dashboard, nothing. After being stranded for 5 min like that at a very dangerous left lane stop, the car finally restarted. Called onstar immediately to scan the car for codes - they found none. The issue of the car intermittently shutting down like that has happened multiple times since October of 2020. Taken the car to Chevrolet dealership multiple times and was told they cannot find anything wrong. I currently have it at the dealership and am being told they can find nothing wrong despite four different people in my car witnessing it happen to me more than once and my providing a log of every time it's happened.

My check engine light came on starting at 30,000 miles has continued to do so more frequently as I hit 65,000in taking it to my mechanic he stated there was nothing wrong with my car I commute everyday to work and every day imy car says check engine reduce speed when I'm on the highway and drops to 20mph I work in bordentown 295 to rt1 and my car reduced engine speed in a 55mph zone to 20.

Ii bought my 2017 Chevrolet Malibu LS in August of 2017, in January of 2018 my first engine light warning came on with message "shift to park" came on when the car was already in park. I moved to denver, CO in June of 2018 , during my long while driving through the rockies the check engine light came on showing "stability track issues. In November 2018 while my family was driving home in a snow storm yet another engine light showing "engine powewr reduced" the car went from a 45 mph drive on the freeway because of heavy snow to almost 20 mph too slow for freeway speeds even in snow. I took it to the chevy dealership they said it was a dirty speed sensor. While driving on the highway at 70 mph I was reaching the end of the freeway when the car completely shut off, I reacted by hitting my brakes but the pedal was hard as a rock, I looked up and I was fastly approaching an intersection so I used the emergency brake got on the riight dirt shoulder, and was able to slow it down to about 35 mph before reaching the intersection where I took a sharp right turn to avoid hitiing cars in front of me and spun out. The car ishowed a message "no remote detected: it would crank but not start . Being that the car warrenty was already expired I had it towed to a local mechanics shop where they discovered a code reading "brake booster sensor" they discovered a shattered vacuum pump. I got it replaced with a new one as well as the brake sensor. I still haven't been able to start it. Because of covid-19 and my financial situation I have not taken it to a dealership. I am saving to have it towed there and hopefully repairing it but I'm sure it's not going to be wallet friendly. We were excited when we bought our first new car it didn't last long. Now hopefully a recall and some justice for us hard working people that want only a reliable car with no hidden repair surprises.

While driving on a main road, the car flashed �reduced engine power� and stopped working. I did not lose electrical power, but the gas pedal and gear shift failed to work. I shut the car off and still nothing happened. Some good samaritans helped pushed me into the middle lane while I called a tow truck. After a few minutes, my car restarted with a check engine light. I drove a few miles to the nearest dealership. They have not been able to determine a definite fix, instead they said there's some corrosion around the battery. According to this site, this has happened to hundreds of other 2017 Malibu�s. There needs to be a recall.

While driving 60mph on the highway, my car began beeping and displayed �reduced engine power� on the screen. The traction light and engine light also came on. The cars speed was immediately reduced almost causing a serious accident as I was in the left lane on the highway with a semi behind and beside me. I was able to maneuver to the shoulder. I had to restart the car twice in order to be able drive it home. This was an absolutely terrifying situation. The check engine light is still on. Upon googling this issue, many people have had this problem and there has not been a recall! if my reaction time wasn't a fast as it was today, I would have been seriously hurt, or worse. Gm needs to address this.

Well I'm driving in the freeway and the car star lossing power I almost crash then the check engine light turn on and it's say something about the stability somentihin like that and that I have to be becarfull driving.

Reduced engine power first time this happened I was making a u turn at slow speeds when my dash displayed � reduced engine power� check engine light came on as well as traction control light . I pulled over turned my car off and back on a few mins later later lights went away and car drove fine . ( November 2019 ) second time was mid February 2020 I was driving about 40 mph when same thing happened . Dash lights came on reduced engine power came back on and car slowed down to less the 20 mph within seconds . Once again I had to pull over turned my car on/off about 3 times in 20 mins for light to go away and car drive normal again . Third time today 2/27/20 at maybe 10 mph my dash lit up once again check engine light did not go away this time . But car drove fine afterwords luckily it hasn't happened on highway speeds or with my daughter in the car . All this in the last 3 months I bought my car with 20 miles June 1st 2017 and currently has 38k miles . This definitely has to be fixed before it causes serious accidents !.

While driving on freeway going 70 mph, my traction control, check engine light, and a warning flash across my dashboard saying engine speed reduced. My car went from going 70 mph to 40 mph and wouldn't go any higher. I immediately got off the freeway took pictures of the lights. Luckily I have a anti left device that reads off codes for my check engine like code p2138 is what came up. This is extremely dangerous, I had my 15month old child in the car with me and was almost rear ended due to loss of power from such a high speed.

While driving my 2017 Chevrolet Malibu on the highway with my son in the car, the driver screen dash flashed a message �engine power reduced�, the check engine light turned on, and the car immediately lost power making it difficult to drive safely. After this happened, my car would not exceed 45 mph and would not shift. After pulling my car to the side of the busy highway and letting it set, I was able to get my car towed to my home. This has since happened five additional times and is happening at a more rapid rate. I took my car the oreilleys and autozone to have them run a general diagnostic check and the error code being returned was �p2138� - �throttle/pedal position sensor/switch d / e voltage correlation�. I then set up an appointment with the Chevrolet dealership, where technicians also ran a more thorough diagnostic test and found my car needed a new accelerator pedal position sensor. This part is not functioning as it is supposed to and at the very least is an extreme safety hazard.

For three weeks I have been getting a "shift to park" error when I place car in park. It prevents me from fully turning car off and will not allow doors to lock. I have to play with the shifter to get the warning to come off. Last week it was in the shop at basil Chevrolet in depew, NY and they replaced the shift relay and it is still doing it. Today while driving down the highway my car suddenly showed the check engine light, the traction control light, slowed down to approximately 10-15 miles per hour and showed "reduced engine power" warning on the dashboard. I was in the middle of rush hour traffic. I was able to get into a parking lot but the car would not shut off and the "shift to park" warning showed. Finally got that error to go off and shut off car. Car was able to restart with only the engine light on. Stayed on for the next 35 miles. Just went back out at lunch time and now no lights and it was driving fine until I tried shutting off and the "shift to park" wouldn't go off no matter how much I tried to wiggle the handle. Car going back to dealer at 5pm.

I purchased a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu about a year ago. I had a check engine light come on at about 25k miles while driving on the highway. The warning on my dash said "engine power reduced". I was on a 90 mile trip and continued on, as I had nothing I could do then and there. I arrived and turned the car off, fully expecting issues the next day when I left, the check engine light was off. I assumed it was just a computer glitch or issue, until now at about 35k miles, on the same trip, the check engine light came on with the same "engine power reduced" warning came on. I have read many complaints online with this same exact issue, and it never seems to be resolved. Both times I had been on the highway for about 15-20 miles and completed the trips.

I was driving on an expressway when the check engine light came on and the following message: "reduced engine power. " the engine power was cut to approximately 30 mph which was extremely dangerous on an expressway and I did not know what was happening. I was barely able to exit the highway without incident and took the vehicle to a chevy dealership. I was told to cut the engine and open/close the driver's side door before restarting the vehicle. This allowed the vehicle to regain engine power but the check engine light remained on. According to this dealership and the dealership that ultimately fixed the car, this is a common problem with the chevy Malibu that needs to be recalled. A brief internet search confirms this is an ongoing problem with the Malibu that gm has yet to appropriately fix. Although my vehicle was fixed, it is a temporary solution at best. Furthermore, other drivers have reported scary incidents when they were driving on an expressway and suddenly lost engine power. This is unacceptable and could lead to serious injury. My vehicle has 25,865 miles and I do not wish to keep paying to fix this problem once my vehicle is out of warranty.

I bought a 2017 chevy Malibu in June or July of 17. Not even a year later on 11-10-17, my check engine light came on and I had an oxygen sensor shorting. They fixed that. Then on 2-2-18 I was driving 40mph and lucky I wasn't on the freeway because my car instantly slowed down and would not allow be to go over 15 mph. They said it was something wrong with the accelerator pedal. However, onstar sent me message stating my engine and transmission needs to be checked. So they ended up replacing the pedal and "fixing" the problem. I got my car back on 2-5-18. In the same month on 2- 9-1818, I went to go pickup my dad who is an experience semi-truck driver and he was 2 hours away. On the way there my car kept fishtailing and I thought maybe I am just over exaggerating and maybe it just me. But, when I got to my dads destination I asked him to drive back and he did. He asked me what wrong with your car? it feels like one side of the car is pulling faster than the other. He then said we need to take this to get serviced immediately because this is an accident waiting to happen. However, this was the weekend so I had to wait until Monday. 2-12-18 I brought it in to be serviced however my car was back to acting normal. On 2- 22-18 . My car kept calling onstar emergency and kept explaining to them it was my car. They told me to pull over, turn my car off and they would try to send to signal to my car. The lady said she did could not get any signal from my car and I should take it to be serviced immediately. The onstar voice kept running I could not turn it off or down. Once again this was a weekend. I had to wait until Monday. They fixed that problem. Now again on the April 1, 2019 I took it to be serviced again due to my car not allowing me to go over 20mph. My car is unsafe I was on the freeway when it slowed down lucky I was in the first line and was about to get off safely.

While driving vehicle on highway at a speed of 80 mph, this message appeared which said engine power reduced speed. I had to find my way to the right side of the highway, while other vehicles are traveling at a 75+ mph, and my vehicle speed has reduced down to 30 mph in a matter of seconds . I pulled over to the emergency lane on the expressway and shut down my vehicle. After 15 min, I started my vehicle and the check engine light was on, but I was able to drive at a normal speed again. This is a hazardous issue and need attention immediately.

I purchased the 2017 Malibu in 2017 and currently have about 24000 miles on it. In the past three months (since December 2018) my check engine light has turned on and been serviced for the code p2097: post catalyst fuel trim system high limit. I was told after the first visit to the dealership that it was a software problem that needed updating. However, it should not be turning on every few hundred miles. The light turns on after highway travel. My specific Malibu also needed the hydraulic valve lash adjusters replaced due to the exhaust valves not sealing, this was supposedly corrected in December as well.

When driving the engine lose power and the traction light and check engine light comes on. The car tell you that the engine is losing power. This keeps happening. I also have been into the dealership several times due to the check engine light keeps coming on.

Was driving with car in drive and car check engine light came on with traction signal stating �reduced speeds�. Had to pull over and car would not go past 20 mph. Cut car on and off 3 times before the reduced speed signal went off. Was driving on the highway and it happened again and I immediately had to get off the highway because my kids were in the car.

I purchased my vehicle in September 2017 and at the beginning of June 2018, the check engine light would turn on and I'd get a message reading "engine power reduced". The turbo would be shut off. I took it back and forth to the dealership about 5 times before they finally replaced the turbo valve. Nothing happened and all was fine until the beginning of October when it happened again. My partner and I took the car to another dealership and they said that it was a computer code reset issue. They said they reset it and it should be fine. Within one week, it was back on. I don't know what to do at this point since each time I take it in, the service department sees the issue but they continually say nothing is wrong with the vehicle. The light comes on both while in motion and stationary, in my garage, in a parking lot, driving on suburban streets, on the highway, whenever. There's no specific movement that triggers this and no past or current recalls regarding this issue, though this has been a common complaint apparently for the Malibu vehicles, according to one of the dealerships I took my vehicle to.

I service check engine light goes on most of the time. I have gone to repair shop around 15x times in a almost 2 years period. I have trouble doing my last inspection did not wanna past, they told me to run the car in high way for 20 miles non stop,dnt understand why I needed to do this. Also at more times then I can remember the car didnt want to start it would after 10-15 min after I try to start it up, I feel motor jumps alot, and transmission not running normal as it should, I have done 2 cases with the headquaters in chicago but both times they close the caes and nothing was solved,and until this day I still have problems with this car.

The vehicle was towed. The vehicle was taken to chuck hutton 2471 mt moriah rd, memphis, TN 38115 (901) 318-3703 where the vehicle was diagnosed. The test read that that a new accelerator fuse pedal needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired. However, the repair failed. The vehicle was serviced eleven times over three years for the same failure . The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. However, they provided no assistance. The failure 68,973. Jw.

The very first advanced diagnostic report by �'onstar" emailed to me on 04/07/2017, was less than 30 days after the final sale of my vehicle. I called the service team for the first time on April 7, 2019 @4:13pm. (see phone records) I am unsure of the mileage however; I do confirm it was within the 30 days of me purchasing the car and I spoke with a service rep by the name of guy. At the time of sale, the car had 15 miles total. The diagnostic message received on April 7, 2017 was "an issue with the emissions/ engine power reduced/engine stalled". The check engine light was also on I have received an email to that effect every month thereafter, and to date. Each time causing the check engine light to come on. I have also attempted to have the car repaired multiple times, within warranty and while out of warranty, by two dealerships. 1. Rockmont ourisman Chevrolet &2. Sports Chevrolet. Both service teams never resolving the issue. The last few times the car was in for service at the senior advisor's recommendation was on 10/17/2018 for 1 day, 11/09/2018-11/13/2018 for 4 days and finally 12/10/2018-01/17/2019, over 1 month at the sports Chevrolet. During this time, unfortunately, I was not under warranty; therefore, I spent quite a bit of out of pocket expenses on a rental vehicle for the days my car was in for repair, even though this issue was obviously relating the same unresolved complaint from April 7, 2017 and that a Chevrolet senior advisor recommended I go there. I found the senior advisors to be unhelpful and limited in remedying simple common sense customer concerns. I have lots of documentation.
