I was driving down the road at 35mph when the car just started smoking.
2003 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to a TSB for vehicle.
Bought this car from a Nissan dealer as a used car in June 2012, it is the lt ve model. The problem while turning left with acceleration the steering wheel jerks right, at times it can be jerked out of the hands (depends on acceleration speed), also a clunking noise from left front wheel at times (with or without engine running). Sometimes while driving at 55 mph or better, taking a left handed curve, steering will become stiff and hard to turn. This has not caused any accidents yet but it could in the future resulting in serious injuries or death.
When shifting into park, the shifter does not actually go into park, therfore car keeps rolling. You have to shift the shifter back and forth till till you here the doors unlock, then you know its in park.
I bought a chevy Malibu new in 2003. I never knew it had any anti theft device. Three weeks ago the anti theft light came on. I ignored it. After a few days the car would not start. The engine started to run but sputtered out. I looked in the instruction manual that came with the car. It says if the anti theft light comes on (for no reason) turn ignition to on position wait ten minutes turn car off and the car will start. I followed instructions and car started. Same thing happened again yesterday. I followed instructions and car runs again. Problem I have is why would the anti theft system be activated for no reason? chevy knew this happens and this is why they have it written up in the instruction manual. If the anti theft system is faulty ie comes on for no reason and prohibits the car from starting, chevy should not have installed it in the first place.
As I was driving about 30mph on a suburban rd. The Malibu jerked a couple of times then the (service esc) light came on along with other lights and the car stopped moving. It also had a (car locked) symbol lit on the dash. There have been other similar complaints and there is no excuse for this. We pay good money to drive a new car so we don't have breakdowns, not to mention the possibilities of getting hit when this fault occurs maybe even being taken out of the population.
Ding sound and then power steering light came on. Took to dealership and was told power steering sensor was the cause of the problem. I have read where there have been severl complaints on problems with the power steering with this vehicle. I have contacted gm and they proclaim they are not aware of any problems yet there is a letter that was sent out in 2007 extending the warranty on the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle in 2009. I am told the steering column may need to be replaced.
This car suddenly lost power as it began to slow down on a busy street, and then would not drive. The car continued to run, but would not go forward, even after gas pedal was pushed to the floor. It, in fact, started coasting backwards when it was on a slight incline. No indicator light came on. It happened suddenly, and without warning. Service dpt. At dealership can find nothing wrong. We feel that this brand new car has a faulty computer system and is very dangerous to drive. The car is running fine at present, but there are no guarantees that this will not happen again. It poses a safety hazard, and neither chevy or gm are willing to do anything about it. My daughter is afraid to drive the car.
My car seemed to be riding rough and my radiator light came on. Today I went for an oil change and the mechanic said I had an "intake manifold gasket leak. " my oil is leaking into my coolant. He told me there was a recall from gm for dexcool. I can't seem to find any information on this but to have it fixed will be very costly.
Power steering recall 04050 and replaced in 2005 with 9,296 miles under warranty and need it again at 26,000 miles today. Front bracket replaced in 2006 with 19,217 miles and needs it again at 26,000 miles today. Fuel leak twice once in 2006 at 19,102 miles and replaced tank in 2007 at 20959.
At least once a week since purchasing the car I am unable to start it because the anti-theft system will block the car from starting. I will put the key in the ignition and the sensor light will flash. I have to wait exactly 10 minutes with the key turned to "on" before the light stops flashing and I can turn the car off and back on again. On a few occasions this has occurred back to back resulting in having to wait at least 20 minutes to start my car. I have seen that this is a common problem for this car, which seems to defeat the purpose of a safety feature if you have to wait in a dark parking lot alone for 10 minutes because of faulty construction.
The fuel gauge will randomly go to empty turning on the low fuel light this also caused the check engine light to come on it will go up and down all the time every few minutes when driving no matter what the speed or type of driving conditions it is believed to be a fuel sensor and interference with a vent tube.
Chevy Malibu classic 2004. Anti-theft light is staying on and the car will not turn over at all. I have owned the car for several months now and this is the first time that I have had any problem with it. The car will sit in the "on" position and the power will be on, but once it is turned to "start" everything goes off and there is no power for several minutes.
Condensed water from my cars air condition is draining inside the vehicle and accumulates behind the right passenger's seat on the floorboard. I have notice it when the water was about 1 â½ inches high. After cleaning the drain pipe, which is very hard to get to and $150. 00 later, the problem is solved for a day. I feel that the system is not engineered correctly and is allowing mold, mildew, and algae to grow in my car. Driver and passenger are breathing contaminated air in a closed in environment.
After returning grocery shopping I could not get groceries into back seat, door would not unlock . This could have been going on for months as I always put groceries in front passenger seat and floor and never used rear doors . Approximately 1-2 weeks later other rear passenger door would not lock or unlock. I contacted dealer who stated gm might work with me to help a little but doubt it as my mileage was at 42000 miles. After checking online I found numerous complaints from Malibu owners that this has happened to them at 40,000 - 50,000 miles after the warranty is over. This problem should be covered by gm as it shows a defect in the actuater in doors go bad, as well as a negligent safety hazard knowing many cars having this problem. Is it going toi take someone to die in rear seats due to this defect when an accident or fire occurs. This is a huge safety hazard as children in the back seat cannot open door if there was an accident or fire, as well as a policeman/fireman/rescuerer, cannot open either rear doors from the outside. You have to crawl over and sqeeze in between front seats and have entire body in back seats before you can reach the door locks to manually open them. This is going to cost me approx $400-$500. 00 for rear doors and reading other customers this could eventually apply to all doors including front doors (another $400-$500. 00). This is my first chevy I purchased brand new and will probably my last.
I purchased my 2006 Malibu in 2007. Since the time of purchase I have had problems with this car's steering column. It would make a clunking sound every time I would make a turn left or right. I knew something wasn't right. I took the car to the dealer once and they replaced something in the steering column. I still hear the clunking noise today. When I turned the key to start the car at times it seemed like the car was cranking and running on its own. Hard to explain it unless you were starting the car. That was an issue as well. Now this 2006 Malibu was parked in my drive way after going to the store and the next day when I tried to start it it would not start. I thought it might be the battery and had that checked out. Not the battery, then I was told it was the timing chain. I had the car towed to the shop where I purchased the car and now I am told that the rocker arm broke and in turn it bent the rods and damaged the engine. The engine is now ceased and damaged.
I was simply just trying to start my car this morning, and as I did everything worked as normal, except when I turned the engine over. First all the dashboard lights came on then the trunk popped itself and the cd player ejected the cd that was in it. Shortly after that because the car wouldnt start I tried again and again with no luck. It wasnt until I started pumping the gas pedal and keeping the key held all the way over to get it to start. I first thought it was the starter but soon realized this wouldnt make my trunk open and/or cd player eject its with that said it has lead me to believe that there is a bigger problem dealing with the anti-theft system in the car.
Chevy Malibu, 2001. The theft system is rediculous! I'm not trying to steal my own car, and would rather have it stolen than sit in a scary dark parking lot all alone waiting for it to start back up. Also, the anti-lock break system sucks. Noone around where I live even deals with it.
I bought this car from a private owner not a dealership. The only problem it had when we bought it was the fuel gauge did not work. Now almost a year later I have multiple problems. The worst is while driving down the road at 65 mph my car just shuts off, no warning, the steering locks up and this happened with my 2 children in the car it was very scary. Then while sitting at a red light when I got ready to drive it died on me again. Each time I have had to pull over, sit for a few minutes, then try to restart and it usual does until Dec. 2. It died and now it will not start. It will crank, the fuel pump is working and I have spark. Other problems: while checking oil one day I leaned against car and it shocked me; brake lights work when they want to; cannot lock doors from drivers side; coolant has to be refilled every week (no leaks have been found); trunk is not wanting to open with button or key; radio/antenna gets 1 station; a/c worked when we got it and apparently the diode or something went bad but you cannot buy just the diode. I am tired of all of these problems and have read many others like these. My main concern is the car dieing while driving down road and locking everything up.
I own a 2002 chevy Malibu and the theft system warning light keeps coming on and prevents me from starting the car. The "fix" is to sit with the key in the on position until the light stops flashing. I know many people have had the same problem and apparently the permanent fix is to replace the ignition cylinder which is expensive and doesn't always work.
The passlock system, in my 1999 chevy Malibu, fails on a regular basis. Probably 1 out of 10 starts the passlock system prevents the engine from starting, and I need to wait 10 minutes before I can try it again; often, the 2nd try also requires waiting ten minutes. This is deeply frustrating on its own, but is dangerous when I need my car to start: for example, when it is late at night, or when my surroundings are potentially dangerous, or when I urgently need to get somewhere (hospital in an emergency!). I have read online that this is a problem that afflicts many owners of gm cars with the passlock system installed. This warrants a recall, or at least should require that gm provide alternative ignition mechanisms that do not have passlock systems installed.
Ac hoses rub the frame and create a hole in the line that causes freon 134a to be released in to the air and the expence is ove500. To repair on the 2004 chevy Malibu.
My 21 yr old son was driving his car on a city street when he started to smell a bad odor, possibly melting plastic. Within 15 seconds, flames shot up the front seat center console on the passenger side. He quickly pulled over and tried to put out the flames. Burning his hand in the process and realizing very quickly this wouldn't work, he quickly and urgently left the vehicle and called 911. Within 30 seconds of leaving the vehicle, the flames spread and completely consumed the vehicle. This vehicle was in excellent condition, nothing changed/tailored from the factory (ie. Stock parts including the radio), and no recent maintenance. If there had been a small child in a car seat, etc. , this situation could have resulted in serious injury, even a death.
My 2008 chevy Malibu ltz 4 cylinder has a very serious design flaw which gm/chevy refuse to acknowledge. It is putting my family and I and possible danger. The vehicle experiences very severe lags and hesitation at variable intervals while driving either stop and go or on a highway. Last month while driving on rt. 95 in connecticut, our vehicle acted up and it would not accelerate and shift between gears properly. The serious lags wher the vehicle is inbetween gears with no engine/trans. Engagement, left us close to being run over by a tractor trailer.
Engine failure and intermittent starting problems. While driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, its engine cut out without warning, causing the vehicle to lose all power controls ie. Steering and braking. After this incident, the car would intermittently not start for approximately 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks, the vehicle would not start at all. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the problem as a faulty passlock cylinder, which is part of the anti-theft system on gm cars. The passlock cylinder was replaced. The part is not available.
Car lost power, steering intact & I steered it to the shoulder of the interstate highway. Anti-theft light was flashing. On Jun 4th, all attempts to reset the the system failed (I was waiting ten minutes with key in on position). The car began to flash all lights & a buzzing alarm sounded. By July, the anti theft device was preventing starting or causing the engine to stop on a daily basis. A code indicated a problem with the fuel supply to the injectors & possibly the fuel pump. (the anti theft device works by cutting off the fuel to the injectors). Replaced 2 fuel pumps (all working), had electrical system checked, replaced a defective fuse box, bent plug. The problem occurred intermittently, & was documented by the shop. Today car was disabled by the anti theft device as I turned onto the state highway. . When I picked my husband up from work at night the car displayed the anti theft light and buzzed & quit in the middle of a four lane road. We managed to get almost home, & turned into our driveway when the light began flashing & the buzzer again went off. A car almost hit us, but the guy pulled over & helped push our car. The local Chevrolet dealer offered to do a diagnostic for $98, but says there are no bulletins or recalls it appears that a great many incidents of this sort have occurred without any response by the NHTSA to initiate a recall or have Chevrolet fix or disable the device on affected vehicles, even though there is a span of over seven years or more during which chevy continued to manufacture vehicles with full knowledge that the part was defective & causing life threatening events. Please direct Chevrolet to notify owners & ameliorate the danger created by their defective product at their expense.
1999 Malibu wont start ,theft light on.
The driver's seat frame failed at a weld joint. The seat rocks backward to the right. Dealer says entire frame must be replaced at a cost of $1200.
Passlock system engages randomly and car will not start. This has happened repeatedly for over a year now. We often hike in remote areas w/out cell service and could die from exposure if car didn't start. Yesterday(01/15/2011) we went to dinner at4pm and could not leave after eating!!! car would not start after trying every 10-15 mins. For 2 hours!! waited 2 more hours and still no start!! finally got home at 10am 01/16/2011. Thank god we were out to dinner and not out in the woods as it was about 20 degrees here.
At 15,237 miles the right front hub bearing was replaced. Mfg part # 20907865 at 24,079 miles the left front hub bearing was replaced. Mfg part # 20907865 at 24,079 miles the right front hub bearing will have to be replaced. Mfg part # 20907865 this 2009 chev. Malibu has never been in salt or any other corrosives except what is in the normal driving inviroment. This car has the v- 6 engine. I have owned since new.
Last winter I had to repair the heater, switching from hot to cold, causing windows to fog up and ice, my heater is now doing it again. Summer time the air works fine as soon as cold season starts it freezes up in the cold setting. You can here a sound like the vent is sucking air not fulloy switching to the hot setting.
Antitheft system passlock randomly activates and prevents starting of car -- must leave key in car for 10-15 minutes and then it starts. Figured out it was not the battery because had just gotten a new one when it happened again. Did internet search regarding Malibu starting problems and saw lots of people have same problem I have but when the cars are taken in they are told they need ignition switch or some other thing but after replacement still have the problem. Other people on the internet expressed that this is a safety issue and I agree -- having a car that may or may not start at any given time is not safe. For example, what if engines cuts off or is turned off and car needs to be moved for an emergency or safety reason but won't start for 10-15 minutes?!.
Blend door stuck on recirculate resulting in interior moisture and fogging/ heavy icing of interior windows-no visiblity requiring constant scraping/wiping. Fresh air and recirc. Lights do work. Lights on but no one home. An antifreeze/ heater core leak. Exterior vents below windshield atop firewall drawing in no air. Mechanic says it might be heater control module. But might means an expensive fix if its the problem.
Gm is refusing to replace the switch per the recall. Even thought the vehicle is made between the recall dates February 1, 2000 through may 31, 2001 (malibu). Summary: by letter dated August 27, 2003, gm notified the agency that it is conducting a voluntary safety recall (NHTSA recall no. 03v327) involving certain model year (my) 2000-2001 Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile alero, and pontiac grand am. Gm's recall covers 670,740 vehicles manufactured beginning February 1, 2000 through may 1, 2001 (alero and grand am) and February 1, 2000 through may 31, 2001 (malibu). Gm reports that turn signal failure is due to solder joint cracking in the hazard switch, and has identified rapid temperature transitions of the hazard switch and the soldering process as the cause of cracking. Electrical current to the turn signals flows through the hazard switch and an open circuit in the hazard switch will cause the exterior turn/hazard lamps to become intermittent or inoperative. Gm will replace the hazard switch on all involved vehicles. Based on gm's safety recall action.
Sometimes the car starts sometimes it don't it gives you no notice that it not going to start.
I own a 2004 chevy Malibu. The anti-theft device continually causes my car to have a delayed start. I have had to put so much money into this vehicle that fixing it to the tune of $500 is out of the question. My dealer told me that even fixing the vehicle does not guarantee the replacement parts will not be defective. My car recently stalled in a dark parking lot and I had my two year old baby with me. Does chevy have no shame for selling products that they know are dangerous? if I would have been attacked and my little girl hurt it would have been their fault. It really doesn't make much sense to have a defective anti-theft device does it? will it take a wrongful death suit to make them be more responsible? I know they are aware of the problem because a CO-worker of mine has a 2002 chevy Malibu and she had the same problem, two years later they are still selling the same crap. If I can afford to buy another car again it will definitely be a foreign car. The following information is general because this happens all the time, not just on one date!!!!.
About every three mo. The dam car won't start because of the anti-theft system, and the door locks don't work right, also the power minors. The car is a pice of junk!!!!!.
An incident experiencing acceleration of vehicle during cruise control after turning steering wheel to avoid debris on highway. Acceleration caused driver to lose control and cause a spin before regaining control of the vehicle. Acceleration would come and go when vehicle was out of control.
I have had several problems with the passlock ii / theftsystem in my 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. This is a recurring issue, that seems to happen 2 to 3 times a week, sometimes more, in the past week it has happened twice. When this happens it results in me having to turn my ignition to on for ten minutes, and wait patiently in hopes this will let me start my own car. I think this is something that needs a serious inquiry by someone. I have contacted the dealership with no avail. I am hoping someone will help the people who are being stranded in that dark parking lot alone at 3am. Please do something about the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu theftsystem/ passlock, please.
Only when its cold outside the shifter doesn't shift out of park till the car warms up for 15 to 20 minutes.
Passlock anti theft device (or system) in 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. Passive anti theft comes on and refuses to let the automobile start if there is even a hiccup in the starting process the car will not start unless left in acc for 10 minutes. This has proven to be a dangerous situation. I received a call that my daughter was in an accident and I was needed. Went to start my vehicle, there was a hiccup in the process and my automobile refused to start for 10 minutes. In an emergent situation with absolutely no control over your vehicle is a very dangerous situation. Luckily in this case the 10 minutes did not make a difference in the outcome, however in an emergency 10 minutes could prove to be life threatening. I repeat - to not have control over one's own vehicle is not acceptable at the least and extremely dangerous in an emergency. Gm wants $500 to replace the necessary module - which will fail again. $500 to regain control over my own vehicle is not acceptable. Gm should be required to place a switch within reasonable access so the owner of the vehicle can determine whether or not this dangerous equipment can be enabled. Again - this situation is not acceptable and gm should be held accountable.
Ac in 2008 Malibu lt1 erratic operation. Ac will not work unless the temp control unit is repeatedly turn off and on until it decides to operate. If inside air is selected it will operate sometimes. Vehicle ac will operate after second start up of engine occassionaly. Fan must be turned off then on repeatedly to get ac to turn on, ac select must turned off then on repeatedly to get ac to operate.
This is a recurring issue with the anti theft system on a 2001 chevy Malibu. On several occassions, the car simply refuses to start because due to a glitch in the system, my own car thinks I am trying to steal it. As the car ages, the incidents grow more and more frequent. I have been told thre times from the dealership I purchased the car from(after 3 $75 towing fees) that there is no way to disable this and there is nothing that can be done about it. I work extremely hard for my money and feel incredibly deceived by gm for not recalling this issue as I can read on several different consumer blogs that I am not the only one to complain about this issue.
This 2003 chevy Malibu has a bad reputation on its passlock system. The car couldn't be started when I turned the key. The theft system lights was on.
Intermittently the vehicle will not start because the anti-theft system kept locking the vehicle. It takes several minutes (ten min or so) for the system to re-set and allow the vehicle to start. Dealerships are not able to correct this problem. . Read more...
Yesterday I was driving my 2005 Malibu on a country road, and made a slow turn in an abandoned parking lot at an intersection. There was a hardly visible low lying ditch, and though I was going around 5-10 mph, the right wheel caught in the ditch, and the car stopped. There was hardly an impact, it felt more like hitting a curb, but the lower front right plastic bumper caved in and caused serious damage in the radiator. I don't know why a major manufacturer thought that plastic would in any way protect a radiator--it might as well have been on the front of the car. Are there statutes against a front plastic bumper? to have this much damage with so minor an incident seems preposterous. Has anyone else had a similar experience? the plastic mounts cracked and came off.
2006 Malibu max with shaking problems*.
2002 Chevrolet Malibu customer states that the floor mat curled on the top of the gas pedal and as she applied the brake, the gas pedal was depressed and caused the car to lurch forward and hit the garage**.
Plastic console extends forward along transmission hump and ends just aft of accelerator. With accelerator depressed, my foot became trapped between console trim and pedal.
My name is steven paul I am currently renting a unit from alamo car rental and have noticed something that my possibly lead to an accident while driving. If the driver is wearing sandals or any shoe that does not extend pass the ankle on the right foot (accelerator pedal foot) and the driver is pressing the pedal about 1. 5 or 2 inches from the floor it is possible for the foot wear to get caught on the right side of the accelerator foot under the center console trim and the driver not being able to move the foot to the brake in time of an emergency. Please look into this, if you need more info or explanation, please call me at 618-960-4696 or just email me back. Thanks for helping keep the roads a safer place to drive from a guy who drives 60 k miles per year. . I was changing a flat tire on my 2004 Chevrolet Malibu when the jack gave in under the weight of the vehicle and the car came crashing to the ground.
8/19/05 - while driving home from work, the alternator bracket on my 1999 Chevrolet Malibu broke with a loud bang, causing my vehicle to lose power steering; the air conditioning to stop, and the engine to overheat. I was able to safely pull my vehicle into a wendy's parking lot, although it took all of my strength to steer the vehicle. 8/20/05 - I had my vehicle towed to an independent repair shop where it sat from 8/20/05 to 9/19/05 waiting for a new alternator bracket. It was this shop that determined it was the alternator bracket that had broken. Weekly calls to the repair shop were answered with, "we're still waiting on the part". A phone call to the local Chevrolet dealership service dept. Revealed that the independent shop had ordered the alternator bracket through them. I was then told there were no alternator brackets for my vehicle in all of ky or TN and that there was a national backorder on them. 9/19/05 - I had my vehicle towed to the Chevrolet dealership to await an alternator bracket thinking that if the dealership had to look at my vehicle sitting on their property, they might be more motivated to get it repaired. 9/20/05 - my vehicle was repaired with a salvaged alternator bracket from another Malibu and the alternator was replaced. . . No mention on my repair receipt if the alternator was new or rebuilt. While I'm am grateful for the resoucefulness of my dealership's service team, I am concerned about a used alternator bracket in my vehicle. If these alternator brackets have a tendency to break, who's to say that this used one in my vehicle won't break while I"m driving down the highway at 65 miles per hour? I am concerned that the alternator brackets for Malibus might be defective, causing engine shutdown and damage when they break - not to mention loss of control of the vehicle when the power steering goes out. I am also concerned that new alternator brackets don't seem to exist when service departments need them.
Recalls for a 99 Malibu are missing from the website.
2000 Chevrolet Malibu developed similar problems as those listed in the bulletin no. 03043a but the vehicle is not included in the listed VIN numbers.
Reoccuring abs warning light on dashboard. This is the 3rd time with the abs light displaying. We have replaced the brakes and pads, rotor and hub kit twice for this issue. This will be the third time we will have to replace and also replace the wiring harness. Dealer unable to define if there is a safety issue or target the specific problem or what the potential problem could be. General motors will not offer any assistance even to investigate the issue for possible recall. They have placed the burden of responsibility on the owner.
While driving at low speed, the drive wheel pulley shattered causing inablity to steer vehicle. Car had to be towed for repairs to local dealership.
A trash bag had wrapped around the axle of a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu resulting in the brake hose ripping. The cv boot was also crushed due to the consumer running over a large trash bag.
Gear shift handle cracked.
While pulling into a parking spot in a hospital parking structure the gas throttle got stuck and I hit a brick wall approximately 10-15 miles in hour. I was only approximately 10 feet from the wall so it was a hard impact. The airbags inflated in I had minor damages to my face as a result of the crash. At the time of the crash I had my foot on the brake and I was approximately going 2-3 miles in hour because I was in the process of parking the vehicle. The car is completely totaled and my husband and I are now in the deficit of $4,000 after the insurance payoff.
Fuse #48 to the fuel pump injector continues to blow we replace it sometimes, it will start and some sometime it don't the mechanic at the dealer ship says that the 1999 chevolet Malibu needed a fuel pump so he replaced the fuel pump the fuse still blowed out the day I picked up my car. They came and took it back to the shop. I have been having this fuse blowing problem since December of 2002. No one has been able to solve the problem please help me if you can. T. Reynolds.
Leaking oil for no apparent reason- upon check at garage advised of intake manifold leak that if not repaired will result in 3. 1l v6 engine damage - auto repair shop advised that Malibu's are infamous for this problem - advised to save receipts in the event of a recall & to write letter to chevy to advise of dissatisfaction.
I purchased my vehicle at major automotive group and since I have purchased my car I have had many problems with it. When I went back to the dealership and asked to exchange the car for another one, I was informed that I could not until my title was received. I have had the vehicle since July 5, 2003 and still have not received a title as of yet. I have been back and forth for many repairs and still have not seen any difference. The car still remains the same and I only have one more month left of my warranty. I really feel as though they are waiting for the warranty to be up so that some action could be done.
Passlock* (theft system) engages not enabling the car to start (gas is cut off to the engine). Chevorlet is replacing ignition lock (believed to be the fix).
I have own three chevy Malibu a 1998, 2002 and I just got a 2003. However, I noticed that gm has removed there cruise control light off of the dash board when you turn it on. The other two Malibu's I own had a dash light come on to let you know the cruise control is on. But the 2003 does not it only has a little light on the cruise button on the steering column and its hard to see during day light. I think this is a very dangerous as you may not know if your cruise is on which could cause a accident. Could you please look into this for me.
Harsh winter of 2003 with unusual buildup of snow/ice in north carolina has resulted in failure of the passenger side windshield wiper pivot housing and/or related parts of my daughter's 98 chev. Malibu. Chevy dealers refuse to help repair as a recall, because the recall is limited to geographic regions, and closest state is our nearby neighbor west virginia (where, of course, our nc residents naturally travel regularly during the winter for the sport of winter skiing). Part cost has been quoted as $137, though I haven't yet determined if I have the tools/capability to repair myself. Unfortunately, this causes the vehicle to be currently not drivable in inclement weather.
No summary. Dt.
Cable nearly severed. Had reported accelerator problems in past to dealer. Was dismissed as floor mat catching the pedal.
Engine check light is always on. Dealer says it is acceptable to drive this way, since they can't fix. Concerned that if a true system problem happens, I won't react because the light is always on.
Returned to james Chevrolet for repair ,problem keeps occurring. No safety defect mentioned.
2000 chevy Malibu. Antitheft system randomly engages and will not allow the car to be started. We have to key lock and unlock the doors, have had to unhook the battery(which we just replaced in hopes that that was part of the problem) , and let the car sit for ten minutes in hopes that it will reset itself. At 2:30 in the morning, and the neighborhood I work in, this is unsafe.
Dealer blames driving habits (expressway driving) and amount of miles on vehicle. No mention that car is less than a year old and has continued to have these problems. No fault mentioned in the summary.
2003 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer wants to know if his vehicle is under a recall.
Owner described numerous problems and believes she owns a lemon. However no details or incidents were provided.
This form is inadequate for reporting on the unsafe feature involving the inadequate lighting of the odometer and gear selector portion of the instrument panel. Under bright daylight this area is not readable due to automatic dimming beyond the control of the driver. In addition, the polarizing effect of sunglasses compounds the problem. Gm and nshta apparently couldn't care less. What are you waiting for, waiting for someone to get killed while trying to see the distance travelled??.
Problems getting dealership to pay for recall repair. The dealer stated the vehicle mileage needed to be between 43k-45k miles. The consumer requested her money back.
Previously reported defect received a reply that someone would contact me. Authorization to convey to manufacturer. Also a waste of time for me. The bureacracy apparently is more concerned about "effect of auto emission safety" rather than the impact of juvenile engineering on the safety to occupants of moving vehicles.
