Front driver and passenger door can not be opened from the inside or outside. Locking mechanism doesn't work. I've tried unlocking the door with remote, button in the car, manually in the car and sticking the key in the actual door itself. When I pull on the handles nothing happens. You can hear the actuator working inside the doors, and the manual door lock knob goes up and down, but neither front door can be opened. The passenger side had the issue first, but I rarely have passengers in my car so I left it alone. Now, the driver side does the same thing. I've tried everything I can think of to get the door opened, but it does not work. I can not even get the inside of the door panel off to look and see what's wrong because the door is closed. This is a serious safety issue because I would not be able to get out of the car in an emergency. As of right now, the only way to get into and out of the car is climbing out through a back door.

Upon arriving at my destination I attempted to exit vehicle but the driver's door would not open. It could not be opened from either the inside or the outside. I consider this to be a safety issue, especially if there had been a fire. Gm is aware of the problem as they have issued a TSB. A quick search on the internet shows thousands of reports of the same problem from owners of many different gm vehicles, not just the Malibu, dating back at least six years. I hope there doesn't have to be a fatality due to this before gm issues a recall to fix the problem.

Doors will not lock or unlock unless done manually. My driver side door just recently stopped unlocking with the remote it has to be done with the key. Its not safe I don't live in that great of a neighborhood and if my doors are unlocked and someone is trying to get in id have to crawl into the back seat to lock each door. Its not safe I don't understand why this has not been recalled yet.

The Malibu my wife and I own have had problem with the left passenger door lock not being actuated when commanded. For example, when the door was commanded to lock, it would stay unlocked. But more seriously, it would stay locked when commanded to unlock. I took it to neuville motors in waupaca, WI, a gm/chevy dealer, to have it fixed. According to a service manager at the dealership, door lock actuator malfunctions in Malibus from that model year is common and he sees many of them come in with exact same problem as my car's. I believe a door staying locked when commanded to open is a serious safety hazard if a rapid evacuation out of the vehicle becomes necessary. Also, if the vehicle rolls on the side of the opposite side of malfunctioning door, evacuating passengers occupying rear seats can be a challenge as the only door available may stay locked when commanded to unlock. I have contacted gm, but they insisted that they are not responsible as the vehicle is out of warranty and a recall was not issued by your administration. The reference number of my complaint with gm is [xxx]. I believe this is a serious safety issue if children/elderly/pets are occupying the rear seat, or the passenger in the back seat becomes unconscious in case of a crash. In these Chevrolet Malibus, when the car is put into drive the doors lock automatically, when placed into park the doors unlock. Without warning the door lock actuators quit working and leave your car either locked or unlocked. In case of emergency you will be scrambling to unlock the door manually.
