When I put the car in park and try to turn the car off the shift park message comes on preventing me from cutting the car completely off. I put in back in drive or reverse then back in park it still dings and shows the message. I takes a number of repeating these steps for it to stop and turn off and this is happening every time I'm trying to turn the car off.

My 2019 chevy Malibu had a problem where the gear shifter failed to properly register that it's in the "park" position, even when I moved the lever there, resulting in a message on the dashboard saying "shift to park" having me afraid to leave the vehicle and having to restart the vehicle and move the shifter to different gears then trying again even driving a few feet to see if that would help finally after a several tries I was able to park vehicle. I scheduled a appointment with lasorsa gm service for 2 /18/ 25 this was my second incident the prior one resolved after two tries but was also unnerving.

This car has the shift to park issue that was under a recall for 2016 to 2019 chevy Malibu. However gm refuses to put my VIN in the system so this issue can be repaired. This is a 2018 Malibu which should have been on that recall list.

When trying to park shift disappears . Parking feature unavailable. Have to try several times to or wait until parking shift appears. System glitch trying to park. Afraid car will run off by itself and hit other cars and crash. Family of four very concerned for our safety. It has been a known issue on several Chevrolet Malibu since 2015 this should have been on a recall since 2015. Why haven’t there been any recalls on this vehicle for this problem. This problem needs to get resolved and if we have to pay out of pocket money reimbursed for everyone. Fear for our safety using this car now.
“shift to park” message appears in the car's driver information center, even when it is already in park. It doesn't recognize that the vehicle is in park. I have to wiggle the gear several times before the message clears. It doesn't allow me to lock my vehicle when this happens, I believe the vehicle stays on while this message is on the dic, making it very unsafe. I see that there are several complaints about this issue but no recall has been made. The dealer refuses to do a free diagnostic test knowing that these vehicles have had issues. My vehicle is no longer under warranty at 54,000 miles, I will be out of pocket the expense but it's definitely unfair that this has not been an issue recalled by gm.
Car will not recognize being shifted to park so transmission stays engaged, lights stay on you are basically trapped in your car until it recognizes the shifter is in park.

I put the car in park and got a message shift to park. I then wasn’t able to shut my car off. The car is only 6 years old! this should not be happening!!!.
When l park my car it keeps saying it’s not parked.
The shift to park is a problem it killed my battery because the car stays on and when I was driving the car turned off in the middle of turning causing someone to almost hit me this is the 3rd time that happened to me but the shift to park has been a problem since I got this car and chevy does nothing about it.
I have had 2 incidents, and paid for repairs both times. When put in park, shift to park warning lights come on. First time, oct 4, 2021. Second time Dec 16, 2024. In 2021 I was told there should be a recall, it happens a lot. I'm not seeing recall, and think I should get my money back.
I have a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu . Lately after I park my car it’s comes up on my screen to shift to park. But the problem is that my vehicle is already in park mode. What I’m trying to find out if there have been any other complaints or concern regarding this issue. I’m 83 years old and I drive my vehicle minimally. It’s only has 9100 in mileage and I’ve taken it to my dealership in parkville, MD 21234(jerry’s Chevrolet)since my purchase date in March of 2018. I’ve done every service requested by schedule. I need to know if I take this in is this covered issue under my power train warranty since this controls my car movement. It’s very disturbing to me that it would not be, again I’m a senior citizen on a fixed income and every penny count these days. I look forward to hearing from someone please. My vehicles as in park.
"service park assist system" always comes back no matter how many times I've taken it to a chevy dealer! no known fix - straight from gm there isn't any known fix. They thought it's when you use remote start . . . Well I didn't use the remote start after chevy "reprogrammed" the car and the message came back and I cannot use the park assist system plus why have a feature that cannot be used. Car is below 50,000 miles and very lightly driven - the average speed according to the car's computer is 38 mph. Also service transmission comes up with some solenoid trouble code and displays "service transmission" at first intermittently, but now every time the vehicle is started. It bangs into when shifting from 1 to 2 when driven. The body panel on the door between the doors is flaking. I've gotten a "shift to park" message when the vehicle was already in park which drains the battery.
The headlights constant comes on and blinks on and off and when this happens it unlocks the drivers side door I have been sitting in the car with the engine off and can hear the flickering of the lock just the other day I locked the door manually it unlocked by itself this happened several times before it actually lock. I have had to lock the doors manually for some time now. Back in October 2020 it was killing my battery causing me to have to get a boost constantly took it to the dealership they said it was the onstar system and I payed to have it removed and still the problem still is there. Battery was still dying due to the lights coming on at any given time and draining the battery. I decided to buy another battery no longer need a boost but the light problem still remains an issue.
