2 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

Beginning in Dec/Jan of 2016/2017 I began having major issues with my power steering where it would stop while I wasn't driving but also when I was driving. The steering wheel will start to aggressively shake and my traction control would cut off. It got to the point I couldn't even drive my vehicle. I then contacted gm after researching that this was a known issue. They then told me that the warranty was extended. I got it fixed and everything was fine until this week January 2019. I contacted gm to let them know of the issue, and that it was the same issue I had before. They then proceed to tell me to drive my unsafe vehicle with my 7 month old infant to the dealership for them to look at it (with no power steering), even though the issue isn't an all the time its just in its beginning stages. I have to turn off my car to have it reset the power steering.

(manual says it is the malfunction indicator lamp. ) turned car off and tried to restart to put car in drive. No luck. ; called for a tow. Waited almost 2 hours. Towed home. This was in the evening. Presently waiting for another tow to a chevy dealership, the following day in the afternoon.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

The car sometimes has a huge delay after you push the start button on dash to actually start, and being a hybrid the car shakes bad when engine starts, it's sounda like crap to be honest. I've got 12k miles on it and it's been serviced at chevy only, and the damn thing has a rattle in the dash they can't figure out and they don't hear any abnormal engine noise. And they say it's normal to lag that bad when starting, as it has to power up. But when car was new it didn't do that.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

Defroster didn't work causing visability problems. Nhtsa campaign number: 08v634000 component(s): visibility manufacturer: general motors corp. Summary: gm is recalling (77) 2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid vehicles for failing to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 103, "windshield defrosting and defogging system. " the heating, ventilation, and airconditioning (hvac) system may become inoperative. If this were to occur, the blower would not function properly and the mode selector would remain in the last known setting. Consequence: if the windshield began to fog or frost, there may not be enough airflow to clear the windshield, resulting in reduced driver visibility and a possible crash without prior warning. My Chevrolet dealer service advisor told me that my VIN is outside the VIN range of this recall notice and therefore was not covered for repair.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/24/2009

First summer of ownership, hot day, airconditioner on. Car started flashing all kinds of warnings. Pulled off road as soon as possible. Loss of power steering while pulling into lot and then car shut off and would not start again. At first service, told dealership what happened but they did not know what the cause was. That same year or next year there was a recall on the hybrid battery and it was replaced. Thought maybe my problem would not occur again but every summer had similar incidents with car pulling into stop and shutting off. Was able to start car again after sitting for several minutes. Diagnostics show nothing wrong at dealership. July 23 2013 on a rainy highway (air conditioner not on because needs new compresser), same situation suddenly happens. Flashing warning lights, loss of power steering and eventually all power after getting off highway(thankgod). Police had to push car out of intersection and tow truck driver gave car a jump and parked car in safe place and got a cab to a very expensive concert a half hour late. After concert, car started and took car to sears for a new battery as tow truck driver suggested. July 26 made drive halfway across state. No incident. July 29 driving home. Battery light comes on after making rest stop. Kept driving on highway(nice day, no rain) but car shuts off again, fortunately just after getting off highway. This is getting dangerous! onstar sees electrical problem on diagnostics. Towed to chevy dealership. Rent car to get back home. Once again diagnostics show no problem. Now I have to take my rental car 2 hours to get my own car. Going to call gm. Wish me luck on the highway. Hope I get the car back home!.
