Ignition Module problems of the 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

11 problems related to ignition module have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 01/11/1999

While driving vehicle will surge forward and backward, which may cause loss of vehicle control. Dealer restarted the computer and changed spark plugs. Been to dealer 6 times. Dealer cannot determine problem. Please provide further information.

2 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 02/17/1998

While driving engine check light comes on. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said that coolant was leaking on the spark plugs.

3 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 01/15/1997

Consumer experiencing ongoing problem with spark plug wiring burning up. Consumer replaced wiring on four occasions. Reason for the wiring burning is unknown at this time. Dealer/ manufacturer have been contacted.

4 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 02/02/1996

Vehicle stalls intermittently, ignition module and coil were replaced, still stalls.

5 Ignition Module problem

Lost all power numerous times in 1st few months - dealer never able to recreate the problem.

6 Ignition Module problem

There seems to be a problem with this vehicle which is causing the car not to hold a tune-up. At 38,839 miles, #3 spark plug was replaced - oil leaking past pcv valve, the pcv valve was replaced. Shortly after #1 and #2 spark plugs had to be replaced.

7 Ignition Module problem

Engine check light has came on 5 times. 2 times the dealer claimed that they could not duplicate. 2 times they have replaced numerous spark plugs, and 2 fuel pressure regulators have been put on the car. The gas guage unit has been replaced because of failure to register how much gas was in the car. Vehicle has sputtered when first started and when going down the road. The dealer has fixed these problems. The program unit in the car has been replaced because of the sputtering and idling problem. The car is now experiencing hard starts when the ignition has to be turned for about 5-6 seconds before the car will crank. Dealership has been notified of this, but has been unable to fix the problem. Brake system failed when roads are wet an d brake pedal has to be pushed to the floor for the car to stop. On the occasions when the vehicle's check engine light came on and the vehicle was sputtering, the code po300 appeared the 5 times that the car has been taken to the dealership for this. Numerous spark plugs and wires have been replaced possibly due to sputtering of vehicle.

8 Ignition Module problem

Consumer has put this vehicle in the shop a number of times because the fuel injectors/spark plugs and wires continue to burn out without warning. Dealer has been contacted.

9 Ignition Module problem

Manual downshift valve is sticking at highway speed, causing the vehicle to stall, dealer needs to replace control valve body assembly.

10 Ignition Module problem

When at a light started to acelerate and car stalled , car is hard to turn on, when turned on the car would vibrate and smoke; also having other problems, will explain, took to dealer on seven occasions replace computer cluster and reprogrammed computer twice.

11 Ignition Module problem

Vehicle does start correctly/stalls due to computer failure.
