1 Turn Signal Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

On-going turn signal failure. Turn signal intermittently functions and almost resulted in rear end collision and/or side impact. Infrequently operation of hazard signal while engaging left or right turn signal mitigated problem, but did not fix. To repair had to replace hazard/turn signal flasher at a cost of $107. From review of Monte Carlo forums this is a known safety hazard that effects Monte Carlos as well as other vehicles that used the hazard/turn signal flasher switch p/n 924-606 and should be remedied by gm through recall/reimbursement.

2 Turn Signal Switch problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2007

I was driving Monte Carlo ss 2000 the other day and smoke started coming out of the steering wheel. I inhaled a mouthful, the throat burned all day. Almost in an accident. The windshield wipers started running and would not shut off, so I removed the fuse. I noticed my headlights no longer worked also. When I got home I opened the dashboard and steering wheel cover , and the burnt smell was coming from the turn signal switch. I opened the switch, and everything inside was melted. I notified general motors right away. They told me to take it to a gm dealer , so I did. But the gm dealer wanted to charge a $100 to diagnose. None of the fuses on the car blew out when the switch started on fire. I found a used switch for $85. 00 so it cost less the dealer to tell me it was bad. It was a faulty switch , and gm told me I could only have a gm dealer fix it. I told them I could not justify or afford paying more for the diagnosis than the used part. Gm told me I could not put a new switch in myself or I won't be reimbursed if there was a recall. This was a very serious safety issue. Gm won't help me out anyway and they didn't really seem to care about this issue. So I either go to the dealer and pay $500 to get it fixed or pay $85 and do myself. They put me in a situation so they didn't have to do anything about this problem. I told them I would send the switch to them, but they didn't want it. Neither could I have another mechanic replace it except for gm. This was rediculous. Someonewas going to get killed if this happened again.

3 Turn Signal Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2006

: the contact stated, while having an oil change at an independent service station, the mechanic noticed an odor of something burning in the vicinity of the steering wheel. There was no smoke or fire present. Upon inspection, there was a malfunction of the turn signal dimmer switch on the steering column. The dealer and manufacturer were contacted. There are no recalls in effect.

4 Turn Signal Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2004

My turn sigmal flasher doesn't work sometimes. I think it happens more often when the humidity is high. I can sometimes correct it by depressing the emergency flasher button. This is dangerous!!!.
