The dealer was able to duplicate the failure, but could not determine the cause. The contact was informed that the only way it could be repaired was by taking the steering column apart for inspection. The vehicle was out of warranty; therefore, the repairs may have to be made at the contact's expense. He received a recall notice for the spark plugs and now an oil leak is present.
