Door Latch Problems of Chevrolet Prizm

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet prism. The contact stated that when the drivers door would lock, the driver was unable to exit the vehicle from inside. In order to exit the vehicle, he would have to open the window to engage the exterior door latch. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor was it repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was approximately 99,000.

Driver's inside door handle housing and pin broke; door couldn't be opened from inside. Parts dealer stated a number of these have broken on this model.

During cold weather conditions my 2001 Prizm's front doors on both passenger and driver either wont latch stay latched for the door to stay shut or when shut the lock will not unlock from the key or from the inside. Also the door handle spring will lose it tension.

I bought my 98 chevy Prizm in oct. 1999. Within a couple years the door handles started to break, one after another. I tried to get Chevrolet to repair them when 2 handles were broke, and when 5 were broke, said I need diagnosis, costs money, I dont have, now 8 are broken. My car is a death trap!!.
