general problems of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

As I was driving home from downtown suddenly my truck lost power and I had to limp home ,friend checked truck and found trouble code p2135 reduced engine power and also said for me to check if there was a recall for this throttle body problem .

My whole dashboard stops working the gauges lights everything just stopped working. I was traveling down interstate and everything stopped working but after a few seconds it all came back on for about 30 seconds and it all shut off again and never came back on I made it home and turned the truck off and went inside. I got up the next morning to go to work and cranked the truck and no gauges or lights were not working still. I slammed my hand down on top of the dashboard and everything came on and was working but that didn't last long and everything shut off again.

The tps throttle position sensor check engine code keeps going off while driving. When the tps code goes off the engine loses total power and you are unable to accelerate, which is a safety issue. We have replaced the throttle body but the issue is still remaining even after replacing different wires.

Brake lines went out with no warning - no light showing compression or fluid leaking. Still no lights have come on. If we had been going faster, we could have hit something. Luckily my husband was driving and he knew how to react by down shifting to save us. The brake lines are all rusted. The truck only has 80,000 miles on it and has been well taken care of. We feel that gm used cheap metal for these lines and could have compromised our lives.

I was driving on a down hill road with a stop sign at the bottom. I began to press the brake and the pedal went to the floor. I could not get the truck stopped and ended up in an empty field to avoid a wreck with impact. There was a huge wet spot on the street where by brakes failed. Very scary with my young children in the truck with me. The break lines were all rusted and had given way. According to the repair shop (and the internet) this is a known issue with these vehicles. I am also now having an issue with my instrument panel going crazy. The speedometer will say I am traveling 110 when I am rolling up to a stop sign. The fan blower will be on 0 and it will blow out at full force and will not turn off, even after the engine has been turned off. This ultimately results in a dead battery. I have had to have several jump starts. This issue according to my mechanic is a "known issue" with this vehicle. However, my VIN # produces no results for recalls. So like my silverado break down on the side of the road issues, the search results have left me stranded as well, only this time I am not walking down the road with my small children.

My wife was driving our 2003 Chevrolet silverado 4x4 pickup on secondary state route. While descending an approximate 6% grade into a right hand turn at bottom she depressed the brake pedal to slow for the grade and turn and it went to the floor, the service brake message came up in the dic and the door chime sounded. She pulled over as soon as possible as she was shaken from riding out that hill and turn with minimal brakes and called me. I went out and drove the truck back to our home and put in the garage to inspect the problem. Once under the truck I found brake fluid dripping from the side of the fuel tank and frame area under the cab and bed of the truck. The service brake line from the abs block to the rear frame point where the brake hose to the rear axle mounts was corroded through and leaking. Further inspection showed all brake hard line plumbing to be in poor condition and also the fuel lines showing high corrosion. A call to a local gm parts counter revealed that gm does not make a replacement set for these lines and that a technician would need to field bend and make up each line. Later research proved this to be wrong as gm offers a deeply discounted unadvertised line set from ac delco. In researching finding parts to repair, I have found this to be a common problem with Chevrolet/GMC trucks from about 1999 up according to the various truck owner forums online. Driving the vehicle home at slow speed, braking was very minimal with the rear brake circuit out,and the knowledge of poor brake operation, so therefore it is my opinion that this is a safety issue with these vehicles with the potential of injury or even death when all the factors combine poorly, and at the least, gm should be required to notify owners of this potential problem with their vehicle, if not recall and repair those effected vehicles.

Well about mid 2012 the brake lines just rust out in the middle of the truck and the rear. My girl friend was driving it to work and lost all the pedal pressure. Thank god she was going up in the parking garage. Right now I'm trying to replace line fuel lines. It just started pouring gas out after I just got to work. I nursed it home and made it. The return line is just all rusted out. Then I noticed all three lines where all rusted out. It's to bad nothing has been done yet I can't afford this! it is well known and understood by many that this is a big problem. Also to top that the frame looks more rusted than the 1989 Dodge I just got ride of. I wash under the truck through out winter and don't understand why it's so bad already.

Speedometer is unstable, and does not fully function at all times. Progressively getting worse.

While stopped at an intersection at a red light, the vehicle started to creep forward toward people in the crosswalk. Depressing the brake pedal further resulted in it fading, ending in a fully depressed position with no more pedal travel available. The vehicle continued to roll forward into the crosswalk. Placing the transmission in neutral stopped vehicle movement. After stopping and inspecting under the hood and under the front end of vehicle showed leaking brake fluid from one of the metallic brake lines serving the right front brake. After taking the vehicle to my local gm dealer and placing it on the service rack, inspection showed that all the metallic brake lines are severely rusted over the majority of the line surface. The right front line disintegrated to the point where the line separated while checking the condition of the line. The other brakes lines are rusted to the point where failure is imminent. All the metallic brake lines from the master cylinder, down to the abs control module and then out to each brake caliper must be replaced. The failure of the braking system created a serious situation that could have resulted in bodily injury to the pedestrians in the crosswalk. Without placing the transmission in neutral it would have eventually struck a pedestrian. In addition to the brake lines, the fuel lines show excessive rust as well. The dealer does not recommend replacement of the fuel lines at this time, but replacement will be required in the near future.

I own a 2003 chevy sliverdo 1500 ex cab truck. I bought it in 2008, I started to have issues with the speedomer when I hit 80,000 miles. There would be times it would work and then quit. Now that I have 120,000 miles my speedometer does not work at all. I found out that there was a lawsuit for this problem back in 2007 and the only remeidit for gm to pay for it was your truck was to be less then 7 years less then 70,000 miles on it to recived the speical extented thing. I can not get it fixed for I can not afford the 500-700 to fix it. Gm should have recalled this problem there are many that I have found on the net that have the same issues as I have. I can t have my truck down for any mount of time due to I am disabled and need my truck to haul my wheelchair.

The speedometer stopped working,as well as the rpm indicator at approx. 26,000 miles driven on the pickup. . I have learned there was an extended warranty on this defect rather than a recall. I never received the letter advising me of this from gm, although I owned the pickup since 2006. I stopped driving the pickup because it was not safe to be unable to ascertain how fast I was I driving. I learned about this defect when I called a dealership to discuss the repair last month, as my vehicle was not usable. I then called gm and they said the extended warranty had expired. This is not fair, and has rendered my vehicle unsafe to drive without a high cost to me for their defective part. I request that they cover their defect.
