2004 chevy silverado: steering column began clunking sound around 48,000 miles upon inspection determined pitman shaft bearing loose/worn continues to get worse now 52,000 miles on vehicle. Upon researching problem on internet found many vehicles with the same issue no repair ye,t shaft/bearing will need replaced soon.

2 Steering Gear Box Shaft Pitman problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

: the contact stated while driving 20 mph, a knocking noise was heard coming from the steering column. The service dealer offered to repack the steering column with high temperature grease. The contact was notified by the vehicle insurer about the aftermarket part recall # 06e010000, pitman arm. The after market parts manufacturer was not contacted.
