1 Transfer Case problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the four wheel drive transfer case failed and wore a hole in the housing of the transmission. As a result, oil leaks out of the vehicle. This also locked the front tires and the vehicle could not be moved. He has an appointment to take his vehicle to the dealer for repair. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 131,000.

2 Transfer Case problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 z71. The service 4 wheel drive light illuminated when he first purchased the vehicle in August of 2008. The dealer repaired the vehicle per the warranty and replaced a switch underneath the instrument panel; the failure recurred in December 2009. A local mechanic stated that there were codes for the transfer case motor and axle; yet, it was nothing definite. The contact also stated that the abs light was illuminated. The contact did not cite any performance issues with the vehicle. The vehicle has not been repaired to-date. He called the manufacturer and was referred to NHTSA. The current mileage was approximately 100,000. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
