1 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

Hi my name is [xxx] my email is [xxx]. I've had my 2005 Chevrolet silverado ss truck with the 6. 0 engine for five years. In those 5 years I have had to change the wheel hub assembly's and the front rotors times 7 times. I'm pretty sick of this recurring issue I see that there was a recall on the regular silverados for my year but not on the 6. 0 engine I'm not sure what gives but I need this problem to be rectified. This is a normal everyday driving vehicle to and from work nothing spectacular and there shouldn't be that much wear and tear on those parts in that little bit of time I've owned tons of other vehicles for that amount of time and longer and I've never had to change that part once I've had to change it 7 times on this vehicle I really love my vehicle and don't want to sell it so I'm trying to figure out if there is a permanent fix for it or a recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 8 mph, the contact "felt a crunch" on the front passenger side wheel. Immediately, the wheel slumped and the chrome wheel cover fell out. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed that the fractured wheel was rusted out. With some help, the contact mounted a spare wheel, drove home, and then took the vehicle to the dealer where it was confirmed that the wheel fractured and needed to be replaced, at cost. The contact refused and drove home. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The wheel was not replaced. The failure mileage was 143,000.

3 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the spare tire would not detach form the tire well after numerous attempts. The tire wheel was located under the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.

4 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

The front end intermittently begins to "shimmy" at about 50mph. I have replaced tires, inner and outer tie rods, and brakes calipers but the problems have not resolved. The vehicle has always had problems with a "clunking" from the steering column. Several owners report the same problem.

5 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2010

The driver side wheel bearing locked up and my truck was undrivable, it made a load clunking noisy and that was it, I just pulled off the highway to get gas, and when I started out of the station the front wheel lock up, it was good to have happen there instead of on the road, or I would not be writing this now, I had to call a tow truck and took it to a dealer, which confirmed that it did indeed lock up the left front wheel and the right one was very loose, needs to be replace also, it buned the had burned the brakes completely up on the driver side, where it was totally lock up, the mechanic told me they replace them all the time from one year old and up so there has to be something wrong in this type of bearing, they are very expensive to be replaced, my truck has 47,450 miles and has been well maintain, so there is no reason that this should have happen.

6 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2009

I had a wheel bearing go out of a chevy truck. The wheel was ready to fall of. It's a 2005 half ton.

The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 07e106000 (wheel cap/cover/hub). The cost of the repair was $330. The failure mileage was 113,000.
