I was driving my 2006 chevy Silverado 1500, 4-door. I had my wife and two children in the truck. When we got to our destination, my daughter could not open her door (rear driver side door). I confirmed the doors were unlocked by using the automatic lock/unlock feature I have on the drivers door. I tried to open the door from the outside, but it would not work. I tried to manually unlock the door from the inside, but the door would still not open. I brought it to the dealership and they told me the electronic latch had to be replaced. The dealership also told me they have had a number of problems with the latches which prevented the door from opening. This is obviously a safety issue.
