We had a recall in the past on the steering column rattling. The dealership repaired it and it has started it again and it is worse than ever. The vehicle only has 59000. Miles on it. And we were told by davis Chevrolet in lexington nc that it could not be repaired again. So I wanted to find out what is going to be done about it.
Failure of left front wheel bearing on a 2006 1500 silverado z71 crew cab. Grinding noise had been coming from the driver's side front wheel intermittently for a few months but not consistently. Truck was taken in to have all four tires changed at 54590 miles. Dayton ohio grismer auto service technicians informed me that the front left wheel bearing was wore out and needed replaced before they could finish changing the tires and doing the front end alignment. This was a addition expense of $270. 00 for replacement of the bearing hub and labor. Contacted the jeff schmitt chevy dealer in fairborn ohio where I bought the truck new to ask about the premature failure of the wheel bearings, the service department said there was no problems with the bearings failing early and they have had no other people ask about this. Looking here I see that there has been several incidents concerning the left front wheel bearing hub and also numerous cases with the right side. When is there going to be a safety recall on this????? this problem and with the steering column inter-link has been going on forever and nothing has been done with either one. The NHTSA and gm need to get these two items fixed right once and for all. I have the failed wheel bearing hub assembly if anyone wants it to inspect it.
My 2006 chevy silverado has developed a rattle in the steering at 10,000 miles now at 45,000 it has got worse. After speaking with several chevy truck owners 2003-2006 they are experiencing the same problem some with 80,000 miles are rattling all the time I believe this has became a recall issue unreported. The dealership tells me a universal joint in the steering column needs replace at $230. 00 my 1991 silverado never had this problem at 15yrs. Old with 90,000 miles. This problem looks like it will only get worse .
Intermittent steering shaft and column bearing makes clunking noise and gradually becomes harder to steer over time. Even after replacing the column the problem will return about every 10,000 - 20,000 miles! this also gives excessive tire ware. This is an accident waiting to happen!.
When I turn the steering wheel normally from left to right I hear a clicking noise as I turn. The service manager at the dealership stated that there is a ring in the steering column that works with the airbag. He stated that it cannot be fix and that is the way it is. When I told him that other sliverado's that I drove did not make the noise he said that some are louder than others but there's nothing he can do the fix it. Could the ring be defective? if so will it affect the airbag?.
The intermediate shaft on the steering wheel column is loose. The dealer and manufacturer have told me that they are aware of this problem, but there is no fix for it. The front end on the vehicle will feel loose and bounce while driving over uneven pavement and bumps and more so while driving on freeways. The vehicle feels unsafe. All the do is put more lube in the shaft and tell me I have to deal with it. I am having an arbitration hearing. Hopefully something good will come out of it.
