Vehicle is in the shop at 191,000mi for rear shocks, front struts, an alignment and oil change as of Wednesday (07/19/2023), at approximately 16:14 edt, the shop contacted me and notified me that the mechanic, when he was installing the new driver-side shocks, went to secure the shock, only for the entire sub-frame assembly that holds the exhaust manifold, fuel tank and shock in place, "shattered" in front of him. I have been informed that I was "one good pothole away" from having a catastrophic failure which could have caused a wreck, and potentially loss of life.

As with many Chevrolet trucks the frame and cross members have rust to the point that they are breaking off. This is a major safety concern as the support the fuel tank and suspension mounts. It is also a major concern to the structural integrity of the truck. No it has never been inspected by anyone else, as it don't need to be it is very obvious on all gm trucks.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact was made aware that the driver side middle spring had fractured and detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

I was coming home from a trip and as I pulled into my driveway I heard this loud bang and metal flying and hitting the ground. I stopped the vehicle and shut the engine off to investigate and found under my truck a 25-ince piece of metal belonging to the suspension - leaf spring system that could be clearly seen as rusted through. I am very fortunate for this to occur in my driveway and not on the highway, loss of control to the vehicle or someone behind my vehicle getting hit by this heavy piece of metal was a good possibility ! I called a couple of dealers to get this replaced and found one that could take me in right away. There conclusion was the leaf spring had rusted and I still have in my possession the piece that rusted and came off. The total cost of this replacement for both leaf springs being replaced was $951. 83 I am bringing this to your attention because I am aware of a very similar recall with Toyota trucks years 1995-2011 for leaf spring failure do to rusting ! I just use this vehicle for my daily driver, no heavy lifting or hauling just 12- miles a day 7 days a week and some trips throughout the years. Truck only had 53000 miles at time of incident.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2008

I experienced excessive vibration in my 2001 Chevrolet silverado 1/2 ton 4x4 after having my wheels rotated. After rebalancing did not correct the problem a closer examination of the wheel revealed that it was broken. A long crack had developed. My vehicle currently has about 177,000 miles. This first wheel failure occurred at about 170,000 miles. In may after having my wheels rotated I again experienced excessive vibration. Closer investigation of the wheel revealed that I had a second wheel that had broken. I called Chevrolet and was advised to take the wheel to a Chevrolet dealer for an inspection and had a picture taken of the defect which was sent to Chevrolet. My tire dealer also informed me that a similar situation with broken wheels had occurred with another customer who had 4 broken wheels on the same vehicle.
