I currently own a 2009 chevrlet silverado ltz crew cab with approximately 96k miles I have owned this car for about a year now since purchasing a noticed a crack on the driver side dashboard under the instrument cluster and on the passenger side next to the passenger air bag. Also the two door handles one being the driver front and the other being passenger front the chrome finish seems to be defective and not staying adhered o the handle and come off in sharp edges making it easy to cut you hand. As the dealership knows this is a defect in the manufacter they used on these trucks the 2 issues on here are not just on 1 vehicle but numerous silverado tahoes and trucks with the same dash and handles. It seems like they pose a safety issue because the handle may cut you and the dash may project sharp pieces if jagged plastic if involved in a collision. Myself and many others feel that the general motors knows about the safety issues and as the vehicle manufactures should do the right thing and fix a defective and dangerous product they put out with the form of a recall. I've seen this issue range from trucks between 2008-2012 with 1- 10000000 miles.
Tl- takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard had cracks that progressed from the middle to the front passenger side which may affect the safety of the air bag components. The contact was included but not notified of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags). A dealer has not been contacted yet to diagnose and repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified years later to determine if they may be able to provide a solution to repair the vehicle. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Dyd.
The dash cracked in several places and the door trims are all falling off.
Cracked dash around gauge cluster and passenger air bag. Potential hazard if air bag deploys.
2009 chevy silverado crew cab passenger dash cracked right in between airbag. Really concerned if airbag is engaged/deployed the dash will interfere or cause harm or bodily injury due to cracked dash pieces to become projectiles into the cab. Filed complaint with chevy GMC they wont fix it under warranty but will charge a goodwill fee. Prices vary from dealership to dealership depending on location. I am very concerned that this is a mass phenomena and a safety hazard.
Dash was replaced under warranty when vehicle was first replaced. However, since then the replaced dashboard has the crack again.
1. ) I have noticed that I have two cracks on my dash board 2ft 8"inches apart . 2. ) my main concern is the crack on the left side of the passenger air bag 1"inch long into the air bag compartment grove. 3. ) I have only 2,189 miles on my truck.
Cracked dashboard - typical of gm/Chevrolet trucks and SUV's no accident or other trauma involved.
My dashboard has multiple cracks in the dashboard, and my vehicle stays in a garage with the windows cracked to prevent overheating. I have had these cracks since my vehicle was under warranty and gm will not replace it. If I want it fixed I have to pay out of pocket. I have major concerns with the dash turning to shrapnel if the airbag deploys. My vehicle is under the takata recall, as well. The dealership has no concerns with this issue. They have no idea when they can fix my airbag.
