Noticeable at night. Headlights on, turn signal on, foot on brake slowing down, making a turn, 1) headlights flicker, 2) headlights flicker and complete dash goes black, or 3) all of #2 and steering goes stiff. Has been happening more often. Last time, during the day, turning against oncoming traffic and engine shutdown, started again, shutdown and started, again with dash going black and steering went stiff. When the engine stops and restarts, it does it on its own. I don’t need to turn the ignition key. Very unnerving. My wife won’t drive the truck. Safety at risk is a “yes”. I have noticed when this all happens, the traction control wording comes on the dash and a bell rings. All this has been happening over the last six months. Vehicle only has 94k miles on it.
Transmission failure along with over heating an also grounding wire issues dash lights flickering along with headlights, and truck shutting off while driving loosing power steering!!!!.
Not related to my vehicle: even in my truck, the frequency of oncoming and rear vehicle headlight blinding is of great concern. I have noticed that the problem occurs more often with modified pickups of heavy duty pickups. One simple correction could be to limit the absolute height of any driving headlamps. Additionally, in an effort to improve driver visibility by focusing the beams to a concentrated area of view, vs the old heads where the lights failed at the edges of the field of view has greatly contributed to the problem.
When something is hit (or pot hole/ rough road etc. )stabiltrak warning and check engine lights flickers, all panel lights go out, and vehicle seems to shut down briefly because you can notice ac go warmer. This is a safety issue.
Headlights and park lights keep blow the bulbs both sides an the brake pedal gets hard as a rock and started pushing back up to me just does it at low speeds and backing up at low speed.
My vehicle's headlamps are so dull I can't see at night. I contacted gm and they offered to replace them if I would pay half the cost , which I was going to do , but I had a heart attack and surgery & was in intensive care for almost a month. When I became able to come home , after I missed my appointment due to this situation , I contacted gm and they said they were not going to help me because I didn't have it done in time. My vehicle is always parked in a garage and well kept. The headlamps are very dull and dangerous to drive at night. I would like gm to replace them as I believe this is a manufacture's defect. I was a gm dealer for several years and don't believe this is their usual practice , giving them the benefit of the doubt. These are dangerous as I can't see at night and oncoming traffic can't see me either clearly. Please help me. This is dangerous!.
This has happened several times on a 2014 chevy silverado I bought Apr 2020. The first time was Sep 2020 and diagnosis from the mechanic showed nothing found. Only showed error code that communication with the computer was lost. Code was cleared and it did not do it again until 2 Mar 2021. Upon initial ignition, the message window read "action needed. Roll driver window down and back up, I did this and then it went away. After driving on a flat, paved, dry road at about 35 mph. For no apparent reason, my truck displayed a message that said "stability control", the engine reved, rpms shot up to 5k and instrument cluster flicker several times, radio turned off and then returned to normal. A short time later at a light and the message appeared again, the radio and cluster completely shut off and then the truck suddenly died. I put it in park, and it restarted immediately, only to do it again (started again as well). The first two times this happened, the truck came back on without issue and I was able to safely pull over into a parking lot. It happened again within minutes of the second time and I had just pulled into a parking lot. This time, the truck completely died (no electricity, no ability to use blinkers, hazards, no power steering or brakes ect. Complete outage. After 10 minutes of it not coming on or starting, I called aaa to tow it and while on the phone (approx 30 minutes, it came back to life on its own (radio, instrument panel came on) and it started. I tried to drive it home, and at one light, it died again but restarted and I was able to get it home to make an appointment. I am writing this because of the dozens of cases of the same issues (some of which vehicles died while at driving speeds) with similar year and model gm vehicles on forums. This is a very dangerous issue which does not have a solution by gm and needs to be documented.
When I am driving I turn the blinker on or press the brake and the stable track comes on truck turns off at low speeds when I am turning the wheel or pressing the brake took it to the chevy dealership and nothing I tell them I almost crashed due to this issue and they say it's your hole wired electrical system that doesn't make sense I tell them I need recalls done and they still do nothing.
Vehicle was in motion with the steering wheel turned into position to maneuver a reverse park. Vehicle loses all power and unable to restart, but the lights flicker. G218 ground is possibly the cause. Nonetheless, this is a highly unsafe and dangerous manufacturer flaw. The following is a public resource I used to identify the possible cause. . Read more...
Truck displays loss of power steering and shuts off everything electrical. When I'm driving at any speeds and turn steering way to fast to either side I'll get message stability trak turned off and followed by radio losing power. Sometimes truck shuts off completely and sometimes truck just acts like it wants to shut off but remains on. There's times where I'll get the message for driver window to roll up and down and windows lose power. I've taken truck to dealership several of times just to lose out on money every time because they haven't fixed the problem and just keep charging.
Transmission pump all of sudden rent out driving down highway.
Head light housings micro cracking on the lens. This adversely affects the brightness and seems to blind on coming drivers! over time these continue to get worse. Note in the question "when did this happen/" it doesn't allow over time so I am inserting todays date.
While engaging slow idle speed turns, my 2014 silverado will occasionally completely lose all power steering and the engine will shut off completely. I have also had the same issue occur while driving straight and applying the brake or rolling up windows. During these terrifying situations, a message comes across the dash saying one or all of the following "electronic power steering reduced. Drive with caution" "stabilitrack" "trailer brakes". This issue seems to be very sporadic and unpredictable. I looked up possible solutions and had a mechanic fix a poor grounding connection under the dash which they thought could be the cause but did not resolve the problem. Please help!.
After 1 hour of driving and stopping at a intersection truck decided to shut down at the intersection causing me to almost be involved in a accident since I was dead in the middle of intersection without warning or reason I had just accelerated through light when truck shut down.
Complete loss of electrical power, power steering, air bags, abs, traction control, and stereo. Had to have vehicle jump started to make to home.
Air bag error lights error.
I have a 21014 chevy k1500 silverado ([xxx]). In 2019 the vehicle started having issues: steering system started “fighting” me. When at very low speeds (trying to navigate slow turns as in a parking lot or stopped and starting a turn) the steering system would go back the opposite direction so hard that it would almost pull a muscle in my arm, seemingly wanting to go back to top dead center. Other symptoms of the situation include hot temperatures (90+), radio on, air cond. On, low speed or stopped, voltage seems low. This had happened many many times to me, to the point that one; I could predict when it would happen, such as making a left turn across traffic at an intersection or parking lot, and two; I would not let anyone else drive the vehicle, because it was a safety issue. I have a video of the issue as I was backing into my garage. Could drive to the store and after a short period in the store attempt to start the vehicle, but the truck acted like it was dead. I would remove the positive cable from the battery for about 10 seconds and put it back and the truck would start. Symptoms of the situation: hot temperatures (90+). This happened several times. I took the truck to hubler Chevrolet, who told me that a power cable from the battery was defective, but could not tell me what was wrong with it. I declined the work and took it to another mechanic that found that other similar issues have been solved by ensuring that the vehicle is properly grounded to the frame. This solved the issue. Now it is 2021 and I am now losing power steering at low speed turns (parking lot maneuvers, or backing up into my driveway). Temperatures are not a symptom of the issue as it is too late in the year and temps are not that high. The head lights are also blinking when applying the brakes. Traveling at approx. 65mph on us17 a divided four lane highway in traffic when the engine shut off with no warning which resulted in complete loss of lights, signals, flashers, horn, and the steering wheel went into locked position. I was able to safely bring the truck to a stop in the grass median. After collecting my thoughts I tried to restart the truck but there was no response and all electrical functions would not operate. About 10 minutes later while I was on my cell phone with a tow service the interior lights cam on along with the radio. The truck started up and after calling the closest gm dealer which happen to be only a few miles away I made my way to the dealership service dept. They were quickly able to identify the problem as gm had issued a service bulletin #pit5405c on this type of issue. It was caused by dashboard fabric trim being caught under a ground post during assembly that resulted in loss of all electrical service. The truck had approx. 40,000 miles at the time of the event and it seems it took either two years or that reasonably low mileage before the problem surfaced. The dealer repaired the problem by simply losing a ground post and trimming out the fabric intrusion. They were great and apologized for what they saw as clearly a defect in manufacturing. They did charge as the truck was out of the 36,000 mile warranty but said I should contact gm customer service for help with the cost. Gm refused but it was only about $100. 00 so that is not the issue. How can a company allow this problem to exist and be aware of it ( technical bulletin issued). It is a wonder that I or another motorist on the road with me was not hurt or worse. This not like a truck not starting but total loss of control at highway speed. Thanks dennis duffy 919-210-0100.
