While driving on the freeway accelerating the truck made a huge clunking noise and dropped speed instantly and I was unable to accelerate. The tow truck driver said it was a transmission problem. Truck had to be towed and is at the mechanic awaiting an official diagnosis.
This vehicle has been driven only on highway and local paved suburban roads. Fully maintained per manufacturer recommendations. This vehicle has never been used to tow. Transmission suddenly failed during driving creating an unsafe condition on a 55mph busy road.
I was driving and my truck check engine light came on and it said engine power reducing and the truck only went 10 mph.
I was driving south on interstate 15 freeway I was on the 3 lane in the middle of the road I was driving around 65-70 mph when my 1500 silverado 2016 loose engine power and started to slow down I couldn’t get out fast enough and I almost got hit by three cars because I was driving so slow I pulled over emergency lines and the truck didn’t even start.
Son was driving truck in a straight line when it lost all power. Although we have experienced issues during turns that I have noted before here, this is the first incident while driving in a straight line.
While turning corners at slow speed, the vehicle steering locks up and vehicle stalls. The traction control (t/c) comes on. Once the vehicle sit still for a while the vehicle can be started and begin driving again. The problem occurs with no warning the problem always happens when turning the vehicle at low speed. Thanks fred ottinger.
Vehicle looses power, experience a temporary loss of electric steering (eps) assist followed by a sudden return of eps assist, particularly during low-speed turning maneuvers. The loss and sudden return of eps assist typically happens within a 1 second period and is caused by an electrical/.
This vehicle (2016 silverado) has all the characteristics associated with the "chevy shake", an unresolvable driveline under seat vibration that is very severe at times. Gm has issued service bulletin pi1354c which I followed at my expense to reduce / eliminate the severe shake that occurs at speeds of 69 79 mph with no improvement. I believe it is a safety matter when a vehicle shakes to the extent of driver distraction and there are dangers associated with the long term effect on safety components that are subject severe shaking that they wouldn't otherwise be subjected to under normal durability testing. I do not feel "in control" while driving the vehicle when the severe shaking occurs at 69mph. I believe that since this is an ongoing build issue with thousands of documented complaints gm should be held accountable to determine the cause and provide relief to gm truck owners.
The 2016 silverado has a programming issue for the transmission. When I drive under a load going up a hill it chugs like I have a miss fire issue. The programming is set so it stays in the highest gear for to long when driving in city conditions. It stays in 6th gear going 25-30mph and when you need the throttle. The transmission can't decide which gear to be in. On two different occasions I went to pull out of a side road onto a main road and the truck fell flat on its face like I hit a kill switch and it all most caused me to get t-boned. I hit the throttle multiple times before it decided it was going to 100% throttle and have me going out sideways onto the main road. I have taken it to the dealer and they have confirmed it to be a programming issue, but there is no fix from gm and the dealer can't do anything with it because of epa laws, but there are aftermarket tuners that address this very issue and fixes the problem and also voids warranty of the truck. It's had the issue since the 2nd week I've owned it from new. The dealer told me to keep calling gm to complain, but all gm does is send me to the dealer. Where I'm told there is nothing that can be done. It is an ongoing issue and is only a matter of time before it causes an accident or death if it hasn't all ready. I have 30 years of experience in the auto technician field and my family combined over 100 years. You know the issue is bad when a beginner driver notices the issue. If you have a local person. I'd be more than happy to take them for a ride to show them. For when this happened. It started in 2nd week of July to present. It only had around 300 miles when it started.
