40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2024

My truck has been into the dealership repeatedly from Aug 2024 to where it sits now to this day because of the engine and the electronic fuel management system. This fuel management system has destroyed my engine by allowing excessive oil consumption to which it turns the oil black. The engine goes from v8 to 4 cylinder to save on fuel which makes the engine work harder. It causes the rocker arms and pistons to work harder which makes them fail. These problems have occurred with my truck and now the dealership wants 20,000 to replace the engine when they worked on it continuously even after my warranty period had expired. Keep in mind that they were still fixing these problems when my warranty hadn't expired yet they fail to fix it properly. I make payments on a truck that I hardly ever get to drive. I have service invoices to back up my claims. There are numerous others that are dealing with this problem and it's all over the internet so I am not the only person.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2023

This 2108 vehicle had 56174 miles on it in October 2023 when the starter went bad, then with 56382 miles on it in November 2023 the lifter failed and the engine had to be replaced and then with on 56838 miles on it in Dec 2023 the engine light came on and the dealership replaced the canister and solenoid. All in a 3 month time. Chevy says it happens. Then we start reading it is a problem with their 2019 to 2024 vehicles. Maybe it goes back more.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2023

In may 2023, my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 6. 2l v8 engine experienced a catastrophic engine failure at 82,986 miles. The failure involved the camshaft, lifters, oil pump, and other internal components. I paid $7,319. 63 out of pocket to have the engine disassembled and repaired by a certified mechanic. I recently learned gm issued a recall (NHTSA recall no. 24v266) for 2021–2024 vehicles with the same engine due to internal engine failures caused by crankshaft and rod bearing defects. Although my 2018 model isn’t included, the failure I experienced closely mirrors the conditions cited in that recall. I believe the same defect may exist in earlier models like mine. I’m submitting this complaint to urge NHTSA to consider whether the recall should be expanded to include additional affected years.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2023

Unknow getting gas in oil at 62532 miles on it which can cause the motor to grenade. A lot of the 5. 3l on 2018 has this trouble from watching utube and using research, should be recalled and transmissions trouble as well.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2023

I was driving on the interstate and then all of a sudden my vehicle started shaking while driving and by the time I got home in less than 15 miles, the truck was producing huge clouds of smoke out of the exhaust. I took it to a dealership and it was determined the lifters were bad, less than 6 months after I paid off my vehicle and the extended warranty expired. In repairing the lifters it was determined there was a misfire in cylinder 6 which in conjunction with the lifter failure, it damaged rods and pistons to such an extent full engine replace was deemed necessary. I had every maintenance and inspection done on time since the purchase of the vehicle by a local Chevrolet dealership and there apparently was no warning or concern that my lifters were going to imminently fail and/or cause extensive engine damage. My truck was in the repair shop for nearly a 1 year while I waited for a new engine Chevrolet agreed to pay for half of an engine even though I was out of warranty by a few months, but I was under the mileage on the warranty by 30k miles. The truck was not heavily used. Most miles were highway interstate miles from long road trips, but the vehicle largely sat undriven most days of the week for a couple years leading up to the engine failure.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2023

Gm has produced millions of vehicles with the 5. 3 motor with afm, dod, vvt issues. They are well aware of this issue. The factory defect causes the lifters to collapse causing catastrophic engine failure. This posses a hazard to consumers in traffic trying to navigate their stalled vehicles off the roadways. Gm customer service is rude and dismissive, furthermore they offer no assistance to fix these problems. The issues with these motors is well documented and any repair shop/ dealership can confirm these issues. There is no indication from warning systems prior to this failure. However there are multiple dash warning lights after the catastrophic failure occurs. The cost is passed to consumers to address these issues.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2023

My 2018 chevy Silverado 1500 keeps stalling/dying when making turns. There is zero correlation to speed, stop and go, slow, fast, sharp or gradual turn, acceleration or slow rolling start, hard stop then start. It happens mostly when turning right, or left, mostly right. It 's happened 12 times from July '22 to January '23. Dash only shows mileage when it dies. (digital). Rest of console is black (similar to when remote started). It has happened when remote started (twice), other times when manually started with the key. I have tried to recreate stalling turning/starting fast/slow/sharp, etc in empty parking lots while videoing multiple times without success. I took it in to dealer's service center in January '23. They trouble shot it, determining that it was a faulty fuse box and changed that out. It has continued to occur despite this "fix. " it has occurred 8 times since January, four of those times in the last 3 weeks, twice on one day. All of these times, except yesterday, I was lucky that no one was behind me. Yesterday, it happened when I turned left. I was able to place it in park restart, and continue. I stopped at stop sign, then turned right. It died again while a truck was behind me. Because it had happened so often, I shifted into neutral, restarted engine, shifted into drive and was able to get enough speed to avoid them hitting me from behind. I was luck the other driver noted that I had stopped and slowed down accordingly. Had I been in heavy traffic, that may not have been the outcome. I know there is a recall for the 2017 year models pit5405c which describes the exact same thing happening, including engine revving when accelerating from stop after restarting. It then requires stopping, turning off and restarting. I am taking it back to the dealer's service center for further trouble shooting in two days. The service center does all my maintenance and oil changes. I would welcome someone else inspecting/trouble shooting to fix the problem.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed lifters. The contact was informed that the lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2023

Unknown the ignition, steering wheel, and electrical. While driving it flickers off and on, turns off the engine, unlocks my doors and turns on again. Yes, our safety as well as others are put at risk this can cause an accident to happen on the road while driving, most likely to get rear ended. Today it gave me a scare because my 2 year old granddaughter was in the truck.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Took to the dealership and they did a diagnostics and are requiring me to purchase a new transmission valve. The truck only has 84,000 miles and they have to remove and replace transmission, transmission has burn smell, color of fluid is dark, excessive metal shavings present the problem I presented to the dealership was that after you exceed the speed of 50 miles an hour the truck starts to jerk and pulls on you and there’s a very screeching sound every time you accelerate and it always jerks hard on the highway and it feels like if I’m being hit by something from the back.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2023

My engine cooling lines are leaking and that can potentially cause a very bad problem to my engine itself imagine I'm driving and they pop off causing me to lose all my oil and then my engine can drown and sudden stop while I'm on the highway I was first aware of the problem when my veichle had to be taken in because the transmission was failing at around 55000 miles the dealership told me about this problem which said did not need to be addressed since it's a small leak on the lines but once I got down under my truck and took of the undercover it's more than a small leak now I'm facing having to spend money on a veichle that should not be giving me problems yet at the miles it's at I'm trying to get a hold of my extended warranty to see if it's covered because Chevrolet said it's not there problem anymore yet I'm not the only one with this exact problem upon investigating the 2019 had a recall for this exact problem the engine cooling lines and I had notice I had to do more oil changes way faster but never thought it was that.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2023

Upon light acceleration of the vehicle, a rough gearshift occurred followed by a check engine light and the vehicle continued to shift roughly and idled roughly. After months of diagnostic work and attempts at repairs, it was determined the lifters were the issue. From independent research I understand this is a somewhat common (and pricey) issue. I’m not sure why there is not a recall for the cheap lifters, but I would like to pursue possible reparations for this fault of gm that has left me without a vehicle and left me with a great financial burden for over six months.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2023

My vehicle has had transmission and engine problems that should not have been an issue until after at least 100,000 miles. At 11,577 miles I reported hard down shifting as well as a hard shift / kick when going from reverse to drive when the transmission would feel like it would slip and then kick when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear on automatic transmission. There were no codes and dealership said they couldn't duplicate problem. At 58517 miles the service 4x4 warning light came on as well as a shifting problem was continuing. A transmission valve body was replaced and a transmission service / fluid replacement was done under warranty or extended warranty. The shifting problem has continued. It has come to my understanding that Chevrolet put out a bulletin about changing the transmission fluid should solve the problem and to tell customers that some hard shift could be normal and not a problem. And I have heard about some class action lawsuits that have been filed. A second and more major issue was the 5. 3 liter engine failure that occured at 62,093 miles after having a tapping noise develop and some loss of power. But this issue began earlier at 40,125 miles when I had a fuel injection clean due to it running rough. Extended warranty replaced engine with a used motor and I was still charged $1158. 93 for amounts extended warranty didn't cover. My son's 2015 Silverado 1500 which I owned previously had to have the transmission rebuilt for just under $5,000 just out of extended or manufacturer's warranty. We don't pay $60,000-$70,000 to have engines and transmission fail before 100,000 miles and before the loans on vehicles are paid off. We shouldn't have to be paying a loan on a vehicle we can't even drive because it is in the shop for an extended period of time. At 62,298 miles after getting the truck back from the engine failure, the starter then failed and was replaced under extended warranty with $133. 76 cost going to me.

During the mornings when first starting my truck, I get a stutter or hesitation to the engine when accelerating out of my driveway. This happens just about every morning. Have had the truck into the shop but they can find no problems.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2022

Our 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was purchased new and only serviced at Chevrolet dealerships. While on vacation we were driving on a 3-lane paved road and then engine started knocking for a few seconds and then a chime could be heard and the check engine light came on. The vehicle lost power and the vehicle was difficult to control. We were fortunate that other vehicles were able to avoid us since our truck slowed quickly (without the brakes being applied). The vehicle had to be towed to a local Chevrolet dealer for diagnostics. The dealer found that the hydraulic lifters on the right bank of the engine collapsed (resulting in a misfire) and there was extensive engine damage. The vehicle was equipped with a 5. 3l engine with afm/dfm (cylinder deactivation). Mileage was 64,562. Vehicle was repaired with "upgraded" valve train parts from general motors as this failure mode seems to be somewhat common in afm/dfm engines (can find class action information during web search).

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2022

I have a 2018 chevy Silverado 1500 that I bought in June of 2018, brand new from integrity chevy in chattanooga TN. . One ago ago I was driving home and the check engine light came in and starting running poorly and you could hear a knocking noise coming from the engine. I took it back to integrity Chevrolet in chattanooga, the employee at the auto service counter got inside and started the truck and he new at once what the issue was, he didn’t even take it back to the shop so the mechanic could look at it. He told me it was the lifters knocking. I left the truck with them. The next day he called me and told that the lifters where bad and had bent push rods. They had to replace everything on both sides, told me how much it would cost. It was out of warranty as I had 74,000 miles on it. The total cost that I had to pay was $5,468 dollars. The truck is less then 4 years old. The employee at the desk when I paid for it said that I just paid for a new engine! again the truck was less then 4 years old.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2021

Driving on highway 70 mph with out prior warning the truck begins to shake, backfire, lunging, loss of power, all the lights on the dash starting going crazy, cars behind me trying to avoid hitting me ,it wouldn't speed up, having a hard time getting it off the road and out of the way of highway traffic before getting rear ended by traffic behind me. The truck only has a little over 60000 miles on it which is just beyond the 60000 mile warranty, the truck lost compression because of a lifter failure in the motor. After this I have no interest in ever buying another chevy product, if they cant build a motor that will last more than 3 years maybe they should rethink their future in the auto industry.
