I’d like to report a serious, ongoing safety concern with my 2019 Chevrolet silverado (5. 3 v8 53,028 mi) since Dec 2025. Over the last 4 months, I have experienced at least 20 engine failures/loss of power, with no engine light illuminated after restarting truck. These failures result in a complete loss of power, including steering and braking, posing a significant risk of a crash. Chevy said it would be hard to diagnose with no engine warning light on. Feb 24th, engine failure, warning light stayed on and towed truck to chevy. Truck on standby, repaired Mar 10th, replacing 2 oxygen sensors per diagnostics. Picked it up on March 11th, but engine shutdown again the same day and 4 additional failures while driving in my neighborhood, making the truck undrivable. I reached out to chevy service supervisor, juliana, but have received no response for the last 10 days. I urge NHTSA to investigate this defect as it poses a severe safety risk. Thank you for your urgent attention.
The oil cooler lines cracked due to cold weather and oil spouted out of the engine. Truck was immediately pulled over when the chime went off, however the engine still seized up and needs to be replaced. No warning lights before, just the chime at 0 oil pressure. I see that canada and alaska has this part recalled and I want to know why it’s not recalled everywhere. No oil was leaking prior to this incident. This left us stranded on the side of the highway and we now have to purchase a new engine with only 65,000 miles on it.
I was driving on the interstate, when all my dash lights came on. When stationed, it would vibrate and have excessive smoke come from the exhaust when I would start driving again. After arriving to my destination there was an unusual burning/smokey smell when I got out of the vehicle. I got it scanned and it said it was a cylinder 2 misfire. I replaced the spark plug, coolant, gaskets. Still wasn’t fixed. Then I replaced the fuel injector. Still not working. The mechanic said the oil psi was 30. The vehicle was also burning thru gas and oil quicker than usual. Took it to the dealership and they said it needs a whole new engine and warranty is unsure if they will cover it or not.
Engine shut off while driving ,and would not start again . Upon inspection from gm dealer they stated the high pressure fuel pump. Cam shaft and lifters need to be replaced . . . There was no sign of failure prior to shut down.
One day when headed out of town I stopped and got gas immediately once getting back on the highway my dash lit up like a christmas tree, driving became uncomfortable as it sputtered when trying to give gas. I looked up a couple of the dash warning lights and it alluded to emission problems. I take the truck to the mechanic and he says that a head is cracked and the cam shaft needs to be repaired. This issue came out of nowhere, no prior issues as far as over heating or any dash lights on.
I went to drive my truck and it would start but I got a “ service power steering no assist “, service rear vision camera, service trailer brake system. Then it wouldn’t start and got the “ lost communication with fuel pump control module, back up camera was flashing in and out and license plate lights would flash with turn signal on.
TSB pip5776. 87000 miles failed. Dealer quote ($9,000) to repair lifter and bent camshaft. Gm said they aren't helping and my next step is get a attorney. Mention 10% “goodwill” offer and lifter collapse + bent cam.
While exiting the highway from 70mph my truck quit running on the exit ramp as I approached the end of the ramp. The truck would not restart and blocked traffic until I was able to get a tow truck. After the truck was towed back to my home I was able to scan the truck and found p129f code reporting (fuel pump driver control module fuel pump speed signal incorrect) (see attached report). Only after purchasing a fuel pump driver control module from the dealer (p/n) 13565641 (replacement for the original 13531875 p/n) and installing it would the truck start. This was a real safety concern as other driver were also exiting the highway at speed while my truck was blocking a lane. The fuel pump control modules should be designed in "fail safe" way to allow the fuel pump to continue even if it isn't running at the most optimal level.
Shut down.
Vehicle has been at dealership multiple times for the same issues and the cant figure it out. Constantly p303 codes. On highway doing 65-70 and truck starts to shutter and drop speed swerving down to about 40mph on highway in traffic. Have to pull to shoulder and restart vehicle.
I stopped at street light, automatic fuel management system shut off engine. As engine restarted I experienced several dash lights came on. The engine light continued to blink and e light stayed on. Immediately went to dealer, 1 mile away. Computer said cylinder 5 was misfiring. Upon repair the lifter was bent and the cam shaft was damaged. Repairs were over $7,000. 00. Truck had oil changes on time, all performed by the dealer. Truck had 67,000. 00 miles. Repairs have been completed.
Wires were improperly installed during assembly, on truck and rubs on a frame which chafes, which causes the protective covering to get rubbed off causing a short circuit on my wiring harness which causes the "check engine light" to stay on constantly. This is a factory mistake yet they want to charge me for the fix. I also have come to know this is getting too common on chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC sierras. Gm needs to correct their factory defect for free. This chafing can happen in three different areas on the trucks. These shorted wires can cause failure of the fuel pumps and leave you on the road when the engine shuts down. Gm knows about these problems but has not acted on this problem. They never mentioned or noted the wiring problem on my repair summary, oct. 23, 24, when they were replacing the torque converter. They showed it to me, but never made note of it. They are going to work on it Monday 12/9/24, I will talk of, who's going to cover the cost of this after it's repaired.
I own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt trail boss that exhibits strange and persistent issues. A recurring engine code appears p0499, clears itself, and then reappears without consistent resolution. This affects the remote starter as the engine light will be engaged. Additionally, several service warnings flash momentarily and disappear, including: •service trailer brake system •brake system failure – top speed limited to 62 or 43 mph •parking sensor unavailable these warnings occur without warning and vanish too quickly to document fully. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, technicians have been unable to replicate or resolve the problem. This unpredictable behavior creates safety concerns, particularly regarding brake system reliability and sensor functionality. I and many others experiencing these same issues are concerned about a potential electrical or sensor issue impacting vehicle performance and safety.
The engine oil cooler line detached from the crimp joints, causing an "oil pressure low turn vehicle off" alert. I was fortunately able to pull over immediately, and catch the 8 quarts of oil which dumped out. This resulted in $634 repair bill, and likely damage to the engine of the truck. Had I not been in a rural area and able to pull over immediately, I would have lost all power to drive and dumped that oil on the road, causing both safety hazard and environmental damage. This truck has been serviced by our local chevy dealer who confirmed the problem with gm. This is a known problem to gm, the subject of their customer satisfaction program bulletin n192220080, and a recall in canada and alaska. Clearly the issue exists in areas other than canada and alaska, yet gm refused to cover any of the cost under our 60,000 mile warranty and has not issued a recall in other states.
The oil cooler lines on my 2019 Silverado 1500 disconnected at the crimp while I was driving. The vehicle has only a bit more than 30,000 miles. I checked online, I. E. Various sites as well as NHTSA and found the gm customer satisfaction program n192220080. In the pdf on your site dated June 22, 2021, it is stated that only 530 vehicles were affected. I believe that this problem is more widespread than gm is willing to admit. Fortunately I was not driving on the interstate at a high rate of speed where “ a potential loss of propulsion” could have resulted in a tragic outcome.
Cel for emissions evap circuit. Problem part is fuel pump control module. Gm has recalled other vehicles over this part and has suggested its failed operation may cause the engine to stall due to the fuel pump shutting off. Currently my vehicles evap system is unable to vent fuel vapors to the engine which poses a safety risk if the pressure accumulates in the tank. I believe gm wasn’t thorough in the recall and only recalled what was absolutely necessary. The part is on back order which points to how common this item fails.
Car seems to be having same issue it was recalled for previously. It powers on but once pushed the start button it does not start it makes a clicking sound and gives a code it was previously recalled for.
I've had continued issues with components that are electrical . The interior electrical items go wonky, radio touch screen will blink back and forth between two screens for several minutes. Sometimes the sir and radio will just turn on with no key, this is random. It will also turn on off then on again after removing key. The ac has begun to randomly stop working(, blowing cold or at sufficient correct speed) all these occurrences are random, have been checked, unable to duplicate or correct. Bigger more serious issues . The steering and loss of power and hesitation in transmission. My steering went horribly bad. It was replaced and it's still bad and the power module in new unit is bad. . Again waiting for s new tech and pinion. (it's been ridiculous with the strike) the steering for several months has been extremely sloppy causing the truck to wander and it's very unsafe. Over the last couple months there's a hesitation when stepping on the gas. As well as a loss in power while driving and far too much gas is required to get it going. The truck purrs when idling but it's losing power. I've stayed on top of the maintenance. . I've had everything checked. These electrical issues have become more than annoying. They are now unsafe, becoming very expensive and have resulted in my having to rent a vehicle. I see there have been many complaints over steering, transmission and electrical. It's time to do something about these unsafe issues.
Lifter randomly went bad while driving down highway. Safety concern is being put into low power mode on an interstate and vehicle running rough. No warning lights and perfect performance before it happened.
The upper spring loaded fuel cap spring broke falling down into the fueling area. I believe it is constitutes a safety issue when fueling, trying to get the pump nozzle in to the fuel in area to fill the tank. My worry is a spark with this broken unit in there, may cause an explosion, and injuries.
Transmission slipping at 58k radiator leak at 52k fuel pump went out at 42k.
Oil lines to oil cooler leaking oil with possibility of failure and loss of engine oil while driving.
Noticeable ticking noise started coming form the engine, upon further inspection it was the lifters that was causing the noise. Dfm, afm the truck is out of warranty at 76,000 mi. So I got a second opinion from another shop and got it fixed through them, not the dealer. My shop re surfaced the heads and went a few steps further than the dealer would have done.
Truck would not start it would just keep cranking.
