The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes failed to engage while the brake pedal was depressed. The message "service brake assist" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact researched and became aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the message "service brake assist" was displayed on the instrument panel again. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,593.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2022

The contact's son owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while her son was driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled as the "service brakes system" warning message had illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred and that the vehicle was unable to accelerate past 40 mph. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,500.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 55 mph and coming to a stop, the check engine warning light and traction control warning light illuminated. Additionally, a message indicating that the brakes had failed, and the vehicle could only drive at 40 mph was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the brake master cylinder was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred while driving and coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the same repair was completed; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent the parts to the dealer for the repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

2020 Silverado 1500 duramax 3. 0 1200 miles and check engine light with codes. I was 300 miles from home so glad it made it. Take to dealer and they tell me I cant drive it because of a failed master cylinder issue. Part is on unknown backorder.
